-general idea, moral of story
-the prevailing insight or tone of a work
How do we describe the theme?
1. abstract noun to describe the tone of the work.
Ex. Love maturity, hate…
2. a theme has to be debatable (not a fact)
3. verb-describes your abstract noun
4. Evaluate- theme must involve proof
