Time

By Sally Morem

The vanishing volatile froth of the present
As old Waldo said of events
Bubbling aloft in a fine mist spray
Tendrils bringing forth sprigs of past present future
A foliage entwineda perfume of deep mystery

The celestial churnings and turnings
Of the well rounded Milky Way
Send out sparklers spraying stars
Creating days and nights
For the planet-bound

Grieve

Remember your desire for anticipated lives
For drunken reviews of those revelries already embraced
Embroidered all the forms of the just now past
Into unbreakable skeins of interwoven tapestries
Embossed into hard granite

You were my favorite
Once upon a time
The light revealed far too much
Cast shadows in your furrowed glance
Made glancing reference to unnamed flaws

Now and then the calculus of time
Slips microseconds between past and future
Separating the good old yesterdays
From what might have been if I had only
If I could go backthe sharpest pain

Perceive

Between future and past
The present is a close shaveso says the Barber
Today occurs just in the nick of time
He magnifies the difference with his glass
For every customers approval

A wasp hovers close to the mailbox
Readies his stinger while lusting after every letter
Bringing news of the past
Birds of brilliant feather poised
Always deflect the angry droning

The brain holds the key
It thinks it holds fullness in memory
But time splays out between tight-gripped fingers
Breathes in and out
Thats it

Conceive

She sang my quest for understanding
Musical notation of the masters
Combines a pause of silence and the last note
Bound and inscribed for ages
Of tomorrows well played sonatas

Your ambivalence is showing
Did you think I meant forever
Measured by the skip of a heart
Carefully imagining many futures
Love takes far too much time

Browsing, scanning, seeing in the minds eye
Swallowing yet another future not soon enough
Your imagination pales
Before the reality emerging
Before your very nose

Everything once was
Everything shall be
Everything begins now
