Introduction: In order to get the students excited about the story e ould read in class I ould
sho an I!o"ie that had #ictures o$ the students and their $amilies $rom collages that they ould
bring in #rior to this day% I ould ask them hat the I!o"ie as about% &his ill gi"e the
students a chance to see themsel"es on the acti"e board and get excited about our ne lesson%
'e$ore I introduce the book that e ould read( I ould ha"e the children to look at the $ront
co"er and #redict hat they think the story ould be about% &hen e ould go on a #icture alk
through the story%
Prior Knowledge: In order to see hat they already kno about $amilies( I ould ask them
di$$erent )uestions about hat they think the $amily is doing in the story and hat are some
things that they do ith their $amilies% *e could also use a !ind !a# to brainstorm and look at
similarities and di$$erences o$ hat the $amilies in our classroom do together%
