Background:
This lesson is designed for Preschool/Kindergarten
students at the beginning of the school year.
Students have been exploring through classroom
literature and materials, as well as with their
families, what their individual preferences are and
characteristicsthatmakethemunique.

5characteristicsaboutthemselves.

Materials:
SmartBoard
Computer
Printer
Crayons/Markers/Pencils
DrawingPaper
ConstructionPaper
Stapler
Glue

Procedures/Activities:
Beginning of Lesson (5 min) Students will use
paper and crayons/markers/pencils to illustrate a
selfportraitofthemselves.
Middle of Lesson (10 min) Teacher and students
will reread and review I'm as Quick as a Cricket
by Audrey Wood and I Like Me by Nancy
Carlson. Teacher will model on SmartBoard and
create, with student assistance, a word list that
describes characteristics of the teacher to create a
Wordleartrepresentation.
End of Lesson (45 min) Students will work
cooperatively with teacher individually to create
their own Wordle representative of characteristics
that describe themselves. Students will attach
drawing and Wordle Art to construction paper for
display.
