The purpose of this course is to proide students with intermediate instruction in both the writing
process and the production of sound paragraphs. Students learn to write simple! compound! and
comple" sentences in order to create coherent and cohesie paragraphs. # ariety of forms are
taught at this leel and students who successfully complete the course are able to write
paragraphs for giing directions! create letters and $ournal entries! and ta%e basic notes.

Coming to all classes will help you learn best. 8f you miss class! you will miss important
information and assignments. 8n addition to lectures! attend two wor%shops and a tutoring
session each wee%. Intermediate wor%shops are the most appropriate for your leel.
8n order to receie a passing grade for the course! you must attend at least 90: of lectures and a
minimum of ; wor%shops. # student who has not reached 90: lecture attendance or has not
attended ; wor%shops will hae an 3 grade recorded on his or her transcript.

Students who miss a midterm or a final e"am may ta%e it with instructorFs permission in the
+earning Center for a fee of G,0. *"ams must be made up as soon as possible! by the deadline
set by the instructor.
<ou must first re'uest permission to ma%e up an e"am from your instructor. Hnce the ma%eup
is approed! fill out a >e'uest for Testing 3orm aailable under ?3orms@ on the Student &ortal.
<ou will then need to pay G,0 testing fee! attach the receipt to the form and place the completed
form in the +earning Center 8nbo". The +earning Center staff will contact you to schedule an
appointment and proctor the ma%eup.
8f you are unable to attend on the day of an in-class writing 5ro7ect! you may re'uest a ma%e5up
assignment from the instructor. <ou must ma%e the re'uest. <ou are responsible for doing the

on those daysJ /arning) ta%e home pro$ects are longer and more challenging than in5class
writing.

Students who come to class late disrupt the flow of the lesson. <ou are e"pected to be in your
seat and ready to begin at the appointed class hour! to return from brea%s on time! and to remain
in the classroom until class is dismissed. Students who persistently ignore these re'uirements
are sub$ect to grading penalties at the instructorFs discretion.
