Genre
Electronica
What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?
One of the main conventions seen in electronic music videos are shots taken of a
crowd as the artist performs live. This includes flashing lights, bright colours, and
people dancing. The shots are usually cut together very quickly, and are slowed
down to the tempo of the song in many cases. Videos of this genre also cut to the
beat. Videos of this genre usually include quite artistic shots, but can vary from
different artists. The general vibe that the artists and producers want to create is a
festival/club one.
How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?
Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative;
narrative; impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)
In my video I plan to use shots of a live concert that I went to and filmed.
In the editing I plan to also cut to the beat of the song. The shots I use
will be general close ups and wide shots of people having fun and
laughing, and acting care free. I also plan to use old footage that I filmed
of when I was younger to go with the lyrics of the song.
Costume
There is not a specific costume for my video, but instead I advised something
comfortable to film in, and something casual, because costume is not a key part of
the video, as A wanted the actors to look comfortable and care free, as a child would.
In the parts filmed in the gig, I obviously had no control over the costume.
Lighting
Natural lighting from outside
Lights from inside
Strobe and flashing lights from gig

Shot types
Wide shot, close up, mid shot, Long shot, pan.
Research
What music videos have you watched to research your genre?
I watched the original video of the song, and music videos from the same genre
such as You Make Me by Avicii and Global Concepts by Robert DeLong. Both of
these videos include a similar concept to parts of mine, for example in Global
Concepts, the video includes a lot of flashing lights and dancing, which are similar
to the footage I took at the gig.
How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key
influences
The Kids Again original video influenced the decisions I made, and I wanted to
make a video with a similar concept.
In this shot is shows pictures of children running around and behaving like kids, and
I decided to approach my video in a similar way.
This screenshot from the original video depicts a child playing in a park, which I
decided to do in my video, except in my video the people are playing on equipment,
like monkey bars, and swing sets.

Meaning of the song
Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?
My interpretation of the video is that the singer wants to act like a child again, when
they did not have to worry about anything and could enjoy life without any
responsibilities, and life was simple, bacuase as children you are not aware of all the
problems and responsibilities of growing up. This is shown in the lyrics And I miss
my youth, it was oh so simple
How will your visuals relate to the song? (Illustrate, Amplify or Disjuncture)
In my video, there are shots of two people playing at a park, feeding ducks by a river,
eating sweets and doing things usually done by children, which relates closely to the
lyrics. In my video, the characters will look happy, as I want toput across the point
that as children you are care free and can enjoy life fully. In many of the shots I will
use, the characters will be laughing and playing around. I will also use some old
footage of me and friends when we were young, which will also add to the concept of
the song.
