RUCKERSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL May 10, 2014
To Whom It May Concern:
It is with great excitement that I recommend to you Lucy Dudley for a teaching position in your school! Mrs. Dudley and I began working together in April 2012 when I was introduced as the new principal of Ruckersville Elementary School, our school. Since that time, I have grown to trust and rely upon her as an educator of children. Her insight, experience, knowledge, and ethics of care and professionalism have positioned her as an esteemed colleague who is an integral part of our schools first grade and instructional leadership teams.
Though I have much to share about Mrs. Dudley and to show that she has the requisite skills, knowledge, and experience to serve as an elementary teacher, it is her unbridled passion and competence as an educator to which I will speak. I know the parents, faculty and staff, and students in your school will find great value in her work, as our school community has. As a first grade teacher, Mrs. Dudley brings strengths as an instructional strategist, creator of student-centered environment, and team player.
Mrs. Dudley stands apart from the average educator and elementary teacher in several important ways. Her keen intelligence and intellectual curiosity combined with a stellar work ethic make her an outstanding colleague in our professional community. She is never satisfied with simply meeting expectations. The quality of her academic and professional work is always superior, and as a persistent and independent learner she actively seeks of depth of understanding of concepts that is more sophisticated than that of most her peers. In her role as a teacher leader (Vertical Team Chair) this year, Lucy took the initiative to increase the depth and breadth of her knowledge of teaching practices by working collaboratively with colleagues in her discipline of reading. She did extensive reading and used her knowledge to support others in a reflective manner that not only demonstrated her firm grasp of content and process, but also helped them develop their understandings by raising questions and engaging them in dialogue that assisted them in scaffolding their own learning.
Mrs. Dudley is articulate in her written and verbal communications, and she exhibits interpersonal skills that make her a leader among her peers. Additionally, my observations and interactions with Lucy suggest that she has tremendous potential to translate her excellence in teaching colleagues and parents about best practices for teaching children. And while she rarely sought the role, Lucy was routinely identified and selected as a leader by her colleagues in various professional small groups, a pattern that is consistent with her work as a teacher leader in our elementary school. Her quiet confidence and respectful stance toward her diverse colleagues and students, and consistent ethic of care for others make her a natural choice for any administrator to employ.
Lucys motivation, organizational skills and initiative are also strengths that will stand her in good stead in her work as a teacher leader and in her career as an educator. She is goal orientated and self-directed. This is evident in the discussions that her colleagues and I have held with her about academic pursuits, reading and math instruction, and developing critical thinking skills and inquiry based learning
