Domestic Events ; Part (1)
-Bill Clinton beats George Bushs campaign
to become president
-North America Free Trade Agreement was
passed into congress, which allowed free
trade between Mexico and Canada.
-Impeachment of Bill Clinton, due to sexual
misconduct
-Americans With Disabilities Act was
passed, which protected the rights of all
Americans with physical or mental
disabilities.

-Welfare Reform had passed , giving
states more control over welfare
expenses
-State Childrens Health Insurance
program passed, which provided
millions of kids with health care.
-Don't ask don't tell policy was
adopted in the military, hiding
sexualities.
- The Brady bill provided a 5 day
waiting period on purchasing a firearm.

-Columbine high school shooting had
happened, one of the most lethal
school shootings to happen

-Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building
in Oklahoma City was bombed by an
US Army Veteran

-A bomb was detonated beneath the
World Trade center
World-Wide Events ; Part (1)
-Operation Desert Storm, which had
driven out Iraq forces out of Kuwait

-Operation Restore Hope was launched,
attempted to overthrow General
Mohamed Farrah Aidid

-Battle of Mogadishu, most tragic part of
Operation Restore Hope.

-Bosnian war was going on ; Yugoslavia
ends up breaking apart.
World-Wide Events ; Part (2)
-South Africa had released Nelson
Mandela from prison after 27.5 years.

-East and West Germany are finally
reunited

-Le Duc Tho , who had declined a Nobel
Peace Prize in 1973 had died.

-Boris Yeltsin is elected President of
Russian Federation

Social Changes ; Part (1)
-The American with Disabilities act had
helped the disabled people with getting
their rights straightened out
-Gingrich, and Rush Limbaugh have
made politics and entertainment forum
for the average American.
-California passes Proposition 215,
proposing that Cannabis to be used for
medical purposes.
-Abortion gains popularity, but loses
popularity right after..

Technological Changes ; Part (1)
-The World Wide Web (WWW) had
been created, which changed how many
things were done.
-15% of America's population had at
least one computer in their household
by 1990
-Cell Phone use was on the rise over the
years. from 1987 to 1997, it had risen
approximately 53 million
-The Hubble Space Telescope is
launched into space

(2)
-The first playstation had been
developed during these times, providing
entertainment
-Easy bake ovens were released for
children
-99% of American households own at
least one radio.
-Television had been inside 98% of
American households, having a major
effect on how people get their news.
Cultural Changes ; Part (1)
-Seinfeld ends with its 9th season, being
named the best TV show of all time

-Michael Jordan, a renowned NBA player
wins his 6 titles in the 1990s

-Robert Venturi, an architect wins the
Pritzker Prize

-83% of people in 1999 had received their
high school diploma
Cultural Changes ; Part (2)
-The 1990s were full of a variety of music ~
Rap, Rock, and alternative.

-Thousands believed that their computers
would crash AKA Y2K would occur, which
sent a scare for their investments on
computers.

-Oprah Winfrey would encourage people to
begin reading, and formed the Oprahs
Book Club.
