Describe the work you saw being done: I was in Mrs. Roods room from the begginging of break, until cave. During this time I oversaw her working with students, helping them with projects and qustions about homework. I also tayed during her lectures to the APUSH students. Although I have not been taught the cold war, the topic of her disscusions, I knew enough to understand the lecture. As with the block class, the lectures are more of a discussion. The majority of the work to understand the topic is done outside of class. The students participated in the lecture, quite often. Most of the discussion was morals, wheither the government had more, or less, than anyone else. The class was divided on the topic. The Disscusion came from the U.S. drooping the nuclear bomb on Japan.
2. Describe the workplace environment: It was a school setting. With several classes going on at different periods of the day. I came in after the freshman block, a class I took last year. So I already knew the topics the students there were working on. The wall dividing the class rooms were open, such is the case with block. So I helped to pt the class room back in order. The desks faces the front, where Mrs. Rood does her lectures.
3. Did the workplace environment appeal to you? Why or why not? The work place, although on a beautiful compus, was primarily indoor. So the apect of the job doesnt appeal to me. I couldnt take my students outside everyday, and I would want to be outside. I could handle working inside for a few days, but in those days I would need a break outside.
4. What education and skills did the person you shadowed possess? You would need at least a bacholrs degree, but most teachers would recommend a masters. You would need a licence to teach. She had a masters degree in history.
5. How important were the education and skills to the way the person performed the job? The education needed for this job, is absolutely nesissary. If you do not know what you are teaching, you are not able to teach the students you have effectively. The way Mrs. Rood taught was very direct. She does not like the new grading at all.
6. Identify the skills and behaviors you observed that you believe are important for every job? She communicated very nicely. She wasnt just giving a speech, but intereacting with the students. If the students got out of line, she quited them up. She did this in a nice manor, not being exedingly rude.
7. Which ones are also important for school? For school, being able to teacher and help people learn is an important skill. Even those people who have a hard time learning, must still be taught. Mrs. Rood was comfortable to stand in front of an audience, and teach.
8. What was the most important thing you learned from you job shadowing experience? I learned to find a job where I will be happy. This will help me accomplish more in life, and pave the way for a happy future. I can try to be better at a job I like, and I would work harder at that job.
9. Was this shadow a worthwhile experience for you? Why or why not? Yes, I believe this job shawdow was very much so worth while. I learned a considerable amount to be a teacher, and the daily life of one. I learned what considerations I must consider in order to find a good career for me.
10. Would you recommend a future student to this shadow site? I would, the experience has helped me greatly. I not only learned a lot from the job shawdow career wise, but also more about U.S. history. She is a very nice teacher, and person.
11. Has this experience influenced your selection of future classes or possible career choices? Please explain: After talking with Mrs. Rood, whom I know outside of school, she directed me to look for another job. She wanted me to find a job where I would be not only content, but happy. I told her about my interest in outdoorsman activities, and the such. She told me to look for a job there.
