Spanishclass.Ihavealsogrownasaglobalcitizenbylearningandpayingattentioninmy
classes.Ihavelearnedmanystuffinthepastsemester.
IinvestigatedtheworldformathbymygroupandIpickedtwoquestionswhichwerehow
manytimeshaveyoudonethehookahpenoranyotherelectronicdevices.Thesecond
questionwashowoldwereyouwhenyoustartedusingmarijuana.Meandmygrouppicked
thesequestionsbecausewewantedtoseehowmanypeoplehaveusedelectronicdevicesand
howoldwerekidswhentheystarteddoingmarijuana.Wegatheredallourdatabyasking
M.I.T@Vaughnstudents.Weaskedoneclassof6thgrade,twoclassesof7thgrade,andwe
askedmany8thgraders.Wecametoaconclusionthatmore8thgradershavedonethehookah
penandhavealreadydonemarijuana.Thisshowsthatourschoolcultureiskindabadbecause
most8thgradersdiditanddidntreallygetintrouble.Also,itshowswhy8thgradersbehaviors
andattitudeisbad.
Irecognizedperspectivesforenglish,prejudiceagainstgroupsisnotjustified.Peopleare
prejudiceagainstpeoplefortheirrace,gender,etc.Racistisoneofthebiggestthingshappening.
Somepeopledontlikewhitepeople.Aswellasgender,ifyou'regayorlesbianpeoplejudge
them.Prejudicewillprobablyneverendbecausepeoplealwaysfindawaytojudgepeople.
Individualsandgroupscontinuetobeoppressedbyotherpeoplethatdontevenknowthem.
Peoplejudgethemallthetime.
Icommunicatedideasinmathbypresentingtotheclass.Meandmygroupsaidthetwo
questions.Weaswelldidachartinabigposter.Weexplainedthecharttotheclass.Weas
wellwroteaparagraphessay.Theessayhadouttwoquestions,possibleassociation,andwhat
ourschoolcultureis.Finally,weansweredanyquestionsthatteachersorstudentshad.
Itookactioninscience.Forthesciencefairprojectmeandmypartnerdecidedtodoour
experimentofsodaandmentos.Wefoundoutthatwithfourmentositmadeabigexplosionand
itmadeaprettybigmess.Ididmademethinkthatifthemorementosyouputthenthehigher
theexplosion.MyactionsarethatIwouldactuallywanttodothisexperimentagainandputmore
mentostoseehowhightheexplosioncango.Itinfluencedbyalternativethoughtsandideasthat
whatwouldbethemostmentosyoucanputsotheexplosionscanbereallyhigh.
ThesearesomewaysIhavegrownasaglobalstudentoverthispastsemester.Theseskills
willgivemeanadvantageinmyfutureeducationbecauseIhavelearnedaboutprejudice.Ihave
aswelllearnedaboutkidswhohavedonemarijuanaatayoungageandwouldwanttohelp
themsotheywontruintheircareer.Doingbadstuffcouldendyourcareerlikestartingtouse
marijuanaatayoungage.Iwillcontinuetolearnmoreaboutthistogrowasaglobalcitizen.
