THE TOMEBAMBA RIVER

The tomebamba rives is the most important of the four rivers that cross
it.
River was born in born in Cajas National Park, in the area called
"Three crosses", and runs along the historic centre of Cuenca. In this
sector, it is estimated that there are 120 buildings in the path of the
Tomebamba River and all are protected.
When the river meets the Machngara River, forming the basin river
which is a tributary of the river Paute. After passing through other rivers
Tomebamba water comes to the Amazon River and then to the Atlantic
Ocean. The main tributary of the Tomebamba, is the Yanuncay River.

TOURISM GREW 267% 5 YEARS IN CUENCA
According to the Municipal Tourism Foundation for basin, in the last
five years the influx of tourists to the city grew by 276%: If 2008 basin
had an influx of 300,000 between national and foreign tourists, the
latest figures reveal that 610,000 220,000 tourists foreign tourists, i.e.
830,000 tourists in total, annually visit city. "To say that we have grown
more than the average growth of the same Ecuador, thanks to the
promotion given to", said Gladys Eljuri, President of the Foundation.
This growth also implies an increase in domestic flights operating from
the local airport, a few in 2003, today register about 20 daily flights.
Thus, the number of hotels today day is also 160, with more than 7,000
seats. Americans are those who most come to the city, followed by
Colombians, Peruvians, Argentines and Chileans, who have begun to
visit basin by the sale of the city promotion through operators, in an
agreement signed with the LAN Chile airline. Tourists from Brazil,
France and Italy, were among the visitors, as also Australians, who like
our geography.
