An Investigatory Project

Nowadays, many people consume foods
that lack important nutrients which are
needed in their body. So the researchers
came up with the project Ampalaya
(Momordica Charantia Linn) Pastillas
which is principally made from ampalaya
and will serve as a favorable and
nutritious food for the people especially
to the youth. Actually, our country is rich
in ampalaya

 HYPOTHESIS
 The Philippines is abundant in Ampalaya
vegetable which is known as a very
nutritious vegetable but has a bitter taste.
So the researchers came up of a project
which uses ampalaya as the main
ingredient and lessening its bitter taste,
This investigatory project can help improve
the health condition of the country which is
slowly deteriorating because of the
widespread of non nutritious foods
consumed by people.
 This research aimed to produce nutritious
pastillas from Ampalaya (Momordica Charantia
Linn)
 Specifically, it aimed to answer the following
questions:

1. What are the components of Ampalaya Pastillas that


makes it nutritious?
2. Can the bitter taste of ampalaya be lessened?
3. What is the level of acceptability of the product to the
consumer by considering the following variables:
a. Taste
b. Odor
c. Texture
 The research project is worth making
because it can help prevent certain
diseases such as diabetes which is one of
the major diseases in the country. It can
also help improve the country’s economy.
 The investigators limited this project on
the production of the Ampalaya Pastillas
and determining its acceptability to the
consumers by its taste, odor and texture.
 Ampalaya fruit cannot be a nutritious
pastillas.
 The bitter taste of Ampalaya cannot be
lessened
 Ampalaya Pastillas is not acceptable to
the consumers considering the following
variables:
a. Taste
b. Odor
c. Texture
 Ampalaya, amargoso or bitter gourd
(Momordica Charantia Linn) is one of the most
important commercial and backyard fruit
vegetables in the country today. It has both
nutritive and medicinal use. The fruit and
leaves of which are used as vegetableand the
latter are further used as a laxative for new
born babies while the stem and roots as
antidotes for fever. The are rich in calcium,
phosphorous, iron, carbohydrates and vitamin
B. It is also known to cure diabetes, arthritis,
rheumatism, asthma, warts, and ulcer.
• The commercial cultivation of the crop is
concentrated to te region II and IV.
Generally two types are being grown the
Sta. Rita type, which is long, dark green and
less warty and the Pinakbet type which is
short and warty and much bitter in flavor.

• Good for rheumatism and gout
• And diseases of the spleen and liver
• Aids in lowering blood sugar levels
• Helps in lowering blood pressure
• Relives headaches
• Disinfects and heals wounds & burns
• Can be used as a cough & fever remedy
• Treatment of intestinal worms, diarrhea
• Helps prevent some types of cancer
• Enhances immune system to fight infection
• Is an antioxidant, parasiticide, antibacterial & antipyretic
• In large dozes, pure Ampalaya juice can be a purgative and
abortifacient
• For coughs , fever, worms, diarrhea,
diabetes, juice the Ampalaya leaves
and drink a spoonful every day.
• For other ailments, the fruit and
leaves can both be juiced and taken
orally.
• For headaches wounds, burns and
skin diseases, apply warmed leaves to
afflicted area.
 I. MATERIALS
 Ampalaya
 ½ Cup of grinded ampalaya
 3 cups of Nido Full Cream Powdered Milk
 ½ Cup of Alaska Condensed Milk
 ½ Cup of Alaska Evaporated Milk
 Cellophane Paper

• II. PROCEDURE
• In making the Ampalaya Pastillas, first prepare ½ cup of
grinded ampalaya, 3 cups of Nido Full Cream Powdered
Milk, ½ cup of Alaska Condensed Milk, ½ cup of Alaska
Evaporated Milk and Cellophane Paper. Second, in a pan,
boil the grinded Ampalaya in Alaska Evaporated Milk for 5
Minutes and then set it aside to cool. Then, in another bowl
mix the grinded ampalaya with Nido Full Cream Powdered
Milk and Alaska Condensed Milk until well blended. Finally,
form the mixture into cylindrica shape and wrap in
Cellophane Paper.
 Based on the survey performed, most people rated the
product very good. This means that the product is
favorable for them and its bitter taste as been lessened.
Most of the correspondents are within the age bracket of
13 – 19

 In general, most of the people liked the product
considering its taste, odor, and texture. Most of
them agreed that Ampalaya Pastillas is
nutritious and delicious.
 The investigators suggest that the further
research of this project would be:
1. Add some vegetables on the Ampalaya
Pastillas or more nutrients and best effect.
2. Determine the nutritional contents of
Ampalaya Pastillas.
