Overall PE Reflection

a) What have I learned and how will it inform my approach to teaching PDHPE?

The PE practical experience was extremely beneficial, as it gave me a perspective on how to
effectively teach PE. The warm-up games are just one aspect that were valuable. They
explained how to modify games, explain the games and rules efficiently and how to
minimise injuries. Furthermore, the striking and fielding games were fun, I enjoyed
explaining the rules of the striking and field game (Cricket) to my class when asked by the
teacher. This will by all means, prepare me in explaining rules to future students that I will
be teaching in PDHPE.

b) How did the learning activities relate to the course content (i.e. key theories and
concepts)?

The learning activities that we participated in during the PE lessons related to the course
content, by referring to the NSW PDHPE syllabus. For example, students who were
communicating with one another in their groups showed team work. Dance was another
concept that was implemented, as this alone showed how students could perform with a
range of different movement skills. As a training teacher this has helped me broaden my
skills and knowledge area of PDHPE.

c) How do I feel about teaching PDHPE? What are my next steps?

I feel excited and am looking forward in teaching PDHPE to my future students from K-6.
This will be a challenging experience for myself, but I enjoy being physically active. My next
steps are completing an online coaching course, so I can become a credited coach. This will
definitely help me when I am teaching PDHPE to my future students.

Overall PDH Reflection

a. What have I learned and how will it inform my approach to teaching PDHPE?
I have learned a lot about variety of areas the PDH curriculum focusses on. The preparation
for the first assignment has given me knowledge in how to prepare lesson plans, as well as
implementing rules and modifying games. This has informed my approach to teaching
PDHPE as I have been able to use the concepts that I have learned during the subject and
incorporate them into lessons. I will definitely use this information during my teaching
career.

b. How did the learning activities relate to the course content (i.e. key theories
and concepts)?
The learning activities related to the course content as they came from the NSW PDHPE
Syllabus. For instance, personal health choices and nutrition was one concept. Safe living is a
key issue we learnt as it involved the safety of students in relation to physical activity. Finally
the assessment, in relation to the warm-up games was seen as a key theory, where we
related our games to the PDHPE Syllabus.

c. How do I feel about PDHPE? What are my next steps?

I feel excited to teach PDHPE, as this will be challenging and valuable for both myself and
students. My next steps in relation to PDH theory is that I will be trying to gain more
knowledge from the PDHPE syllabus before I will be teaching it in the next few years. I want
to teach my students about healthy lifestyles and nutrition as we live in an era where
obesity is at an all-time high across the world. Most importantly I want to promote healthy
eating at schools, especially in the canteens.
