Technology is increasing in the classroom because of its use to enhance learning. It is
inevitable to use technology in the classroom. Before using technology in my classroom, I need
to make sure that I understand the four ethical issues: social, educational, cultural/equity, and
legal. Technology is a privilege that schools enjoy off and it is our responsibility as teacher to
make sure that our students use it properly believe that it is my responsibility to set the example
in my classroom.
The teenage year is when students become more interested in social networks and
websites that are not for educational use. I need to closely monitor where students log in to. I
wont have to work too hard to block off those websites because some school districts already
have their very own technology policies that every students needs to follow (Robley & Doering,
2012). When my students do research in the classroom I must be aware of which websites that
my students do research in. Not only will I have to be sure that the websites are appropriate but
that they do not have pop ups. I also need to make sure that I use websites that do not give
computers viruses and spams (Robley & Doering, 2012). Computers are an expensive investment
in the school and it would unfortunate to mess them up.
Technological advances are costly and some cannot be afforded. If I reach the point that I
find a new software that I find useful in my classroom. I will do what I can do to raise money.
The easiest way is to sell food in and out of school. Of course that parent permission will be

needed also and even their cooperation. I will also show the best practices to follow when
using the Internet (Robley & Doering, 2012). As technology evolves, there will be new efficient
ways to use the up-to-date technologies. These advances will give my students a broader view of
the culture.
The digital divide (Robley & Doering, 2012) is experienced by many minorities. These
students have technological access in school but not at home. There are programs offered to
students that when they finish the programs they get to keep a netbook or even a tablet. I am also
aware that some students may not be able to attend these programs, since the space is limited. I
will keep myself informed of any grants that may be available to get a classroom set of
technological devices.
The final ethic issue I need to make sure to address is legal issues. The main issue that I
will definitely address in my classroom is plagiarism (Robley & Doering, 2012). Plagiarism is
taken very seriously in the classroom. It also has very serious consequences in school. To
prevent this is my classroom it is important to show students how to properly cite in papers and
presentations. A teacher that I had gave us, what she called a brief guide to quoting literature
which even up to this day I find useful. I think that sometimes more than being given rules of
quoting, it is more helpful to see an example of it.
