PEOPLES PERCEPTION OF THEIR OWN LEARNING STYLE

By: Aja Williams

INTRODUCTION
Many people dont know their learning style(s) The purpose of this project is to prove that if more learning styles are tested, results will differ. This means that different learning styles will be more common as well as students will have a different learning style than what the originally believed they had.

LEARNING STYLES
Visual (images) Aural (sounds) Verbal (speech and writing) Physical (hands) Logical (reasoning) Social (working with others) Solitary (working alone)

HYPOTHESES
The largest percentage of people will not know their learning style The largest percentage of people will be physical learners The largest percentage of people will think that they are visual learners The smallest percentage of people will have multiple learning styles If more learning styles are included in the learning style test, results would change.

BACKGROUND
Visual and Aural are believed to be the most common. Visual, Auditory, and Physical are most commonly tested.

PROCEDURE
Created a survey that included learning style test Posted the survey online using Quia Got permission to have students take survey Calculated how many people knew their learning style and how learning styles differed between age and gender

EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN DIAGRAM

Hypothesis: If more learning styles are added to the learning style survey, the results will differ from previous research Independent variable: Grade Levels Levels of Independent Variable:
Grade # of Trials 6th 16 7th 70 8th 22 9th 24 10th 11 11th 4 12th 28

Dependent variable: Learning Style (Aural, Visual, Verbal, Physical, Logical) Constants: Survey method and Learning styles Control: N/A

CONCLUSION
Most people do not know their learning style The most common learning styles were aural and physical Most people thought they were visual and physical learners Very few people had multiple learning styles There isnt much difference between gender and social/solitary learning Males tend to be more logical than females Females tend to be more aural

SOURCES OF ERROR
During data collection, some grade levels had few respondents It took a long time to get permission to have students take the survey

FUTURE RESEARCH
For future research, I recommend: Questions: Do students with multiple learning styles use their learning styles at the same time or at different times? What would be the results if the naturalistic learning style was included in the research? Changes: Use more grade levels for more data
