Adverbs of Frequency

Adverbs of frequency tell how often somebody is, feels or does something. The adverbs of frequency answer the typical question starting with How often. 1) How often do you brush your teeth? 2) How often does your mother cook? The most used frequency adverbs are always, usually, often, sometimes, hardly ever and never. I usually have cereal for breakfast. I normally go to the gym. I often surf the internet. I sometimes forget my wife's birthday. I hardly ever drink alcohol. I never swim in the sea.

The Position of the Adverb in a Sentence 1. Put the adverb of frequency before the main verb in a sentence, EXCEPT for the verb "be." Subject + adverb + main verb I always eat at two o'clock She usually drinks coffee in the morning. He often cries. She sometimes plays chess. We hardly ever eat breakfast at 7:00 a.m. 2. - If the main verb is the verb 'To be' (am, is, are), the adverb of frequency is put after the verb 'To be'. Subject + to be + adverb I am often on time. She is always tired after classes. Andres is hardly ever at home. They are usually happy on Fridays.
