Mexico Lesson Plan

SUBJECT: Geography.

GRADE LEVEL: Lower Elementary. CONCEPT: Mexico. MUSIC: Mexican Hat Dance - YouTube Video.

OBJECTIVE: Students will learn about Mexico. MATERIALS: Mexican Hat Dance - YouTube Video, map printouts of Mexico for students to color. OPEN: Who knows where Mexico is? TEACHING PROCEDURES Step 1: The students will identify Mexico on a map. The teacher will then hand out printouts and have students color Mexico. Transition: What do we know about Mexico? Step 2: The teacher will then share with the students: The Capital City of Mexico is Mexico City. The main language in Mexico is Spanish. The climate varies from D\desert to tropical. Main industries in Mexico include clothing, food, tobacco, chemicals, tourism, and mining. Transition: Who likes to listen to music from different places in the world? Step 3: The teacher will then have the students listen to the Mexican Hat Dance. This is a very popular Mexican song.

EVALUATION/ASSESS: Students will be assessed by their knowledge of Mexico through a multiple choice assessment.
