In Unit 8 students will review the concept of renaming fractions as equivalent fractions. They will be introduced to algorithms for multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers, and they will practice estimating and calculating a percent. The main topics of Unit 8 are: equivalent fractions, multiplying fractions and mixed numbers, and percents. Check out the parent information for more ways to support your child. The Unit 8 Math Test will be on Friday. Students will be tested on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions. They will also be asked to find percents of numbers. Students should watch this units math videos on the website to help review for the test.

Unit 5 in Reading Street relates to the question, who goes seeking adventure and why? The reading skill of the week is using graphic sources and the strategy is inferring. The grammar skill is adjectives and articles. This week students will practice the skills in relation to our read aloud and will with our Science lessons. Applying the skill to different content will help students deepen students understanding and use of the skills and strategies.

Language arts:

On Monday we will swing by the Upper School Science Fair in the gym. Students can see what they will be expected to do next year. Our Science this week will be integrated into Writing in order to prepare for the Invention Convention.

!On April 11th there will be parent conferences. Students will be sharing their growth with their parents during student led conferences. Please be on the lookout for information about conferences. !This Friday, April 4th, is Grandparents and Special Friends Day from 8:15-10:00. !Please arrange to take home your childs invention board by Tuesday, otherwise it will be thrown out. !The next Elementary Assembly is April 14th at 8:45. The winners of the Invention Convention will be announced.
