FTK-9 Field Trauma Kit For MWD K-9s

natural glue-like nature of drying blood, along with release of the adjuvant from the microspheres bonds the seal to the wound and surrounding tissues.

The FTK-9 Field Trauma Kit was originally developed for use by the US Armys Military Working Dog Unit for military and tactical use. The commercial version for the FTK-9 product is called, Poochie-Peds. The product is made using microscopic-sized balls that range in sizes from 500nm to 300um in combination with chemical clotting agents and biopolymers to stop hemorrhage and prevent infection.

The occlusive seal that forms in just a few seconds stops further bleeding or oozing while the adjuvant in the microspheres delivers the antiseptic/analgesic. Blood solids in combination with the polymer, potassium ferrate and microspheres continue to stack beneath and above the seal, strengthening it. The natural clotting process occurs below the seal and hastens the healing process and cationic reaction releases oxygen further sterilizing the wound area. In cases of profuse bleeding the biopolymer matrix can be applied to the area of the injury through application by sprinkling and direct pressure resulting in creation of a biopolymer-scab. The covering over the wound area can last for 1-2 weeks if the K-9 unit is immobilized. FTK-9 is simple and easy to use and contains enough product to enable as many as four treatments (1 gm.). The product is dispensed in a simple process that involves either sprinkling the product directly into the wound or simply 'dipping' the K-9's paw into the 1container shown below which has a wide opening sufficient to accommodate placement of the K-9's paw directly into the container (eliminating waste, spillage, and protecting un-used product from possible contamination).

About the FTK-9

FTK-9 and Poochie-Peds (Kit), Patent Pending, are members of a family of products invented and developed by former NASA Scholar and Scientist, Dr. Joseph A. Resnick, Professor Emeritus, utilizing space-age nano-microencapsulation processes developed during experiments carried out aboard NASA Space Shuttle flights STS 41 and STS 43 in 1989-1993. Studies were sponsored by the US Army Dental Medical Command, Ft. Detrick, MD The FTK-9 Kit is designed to enable preservation of troop strength and resilience of assets. Product features are: Lightweight and Profile (Wt.=1.032 oz.; Size=1X3.5X4); Reusable Rapid/Easy to deploy (deploys in seconds) Stops bleeding on contact; works on wounds in less than 5 seconds Instantly forms sterile protective wound covering that lasts for extended time (1-2 weeks) May be used on any wound site for MWDs or other military service animals

How FTK-9 Works

The FTK-9 product comprises a powdery-matrix made with a hydrophilic polymer, potassium ferrate, and microspheres (500nm-300um) made from 100% natural beeswax filled with an adjuvant. When an area of injury, e.g., K-9s paw is presented to the product, the hydrophilic polymer instantly bonds to the blood by absorbing only the plasma or liquid portion of the blood stacking the blood solids beneath the matrix. Simultaneously, the potassium ferrate, and some of the microspheres, dissolves releasing iron (a cation) that agglomerates (binds together) the blood solids and delivers a soothing adjuvant to the injury site. This creates a sterile occlusive seal. As pressure imparted by the K-9s paw contacts the powder-matrix, the seal is pushed into contact with the wound, the microspheres are fractured releasing the adjuvant and creates a secondary occlusive seal or layer of protection. How to deploy the FTK-9

Place K-9 paw into product in gentle, but firm 'dipping' motion;

Secure the K-9 in safe/comfortable position with access to affected paw; Open container lid on top of product container;

Place container in waterproof bag and store in a cool dry place if additional use is anticipated within 1-2 hours;

Repeat if necessary on larger MWD units;

Widen container lid to 90s exposing product components;

Keep K-9 calm and at rest for a period of at least two minutes (2 min.) which will allow components to air-dry forming protective barrier to affected areas on K-9 toe-pad(s) or wound site; Close Container by moving hinged lid in downward motion until container snaps shut;

Discard any unused product which may have been used for treatments. Used containers may be used for other purposes afield.
