IMPACT ON ECONOMY AND ENVIRONMENT Marshgate Lane (industrial estate) was location for main stadium. 207 companies agreed compensation by ODA to move. Manufacturing collapsed after closure of docks in 981. Derelict land. Legacy ensured green areas would stay after games. IMPACT ON LOCALS Biggest social legacy was the housing. Clay Lane Estate was demolished and replaced the Olympic Village. It had held: hall of residence for students from university housing for single and homeless people travellers site After the Games, the village will be transformed into 3000 affordable homes. A further 9000 homes will be built of which 50% will be affordable. Total affordable= 7500 houses. FUTURE LINKS Will be new transport hub- now best connected location in UK Cross rail will link Stratford to West London and Heathrow Stortford City- largest commercial development costing 4bn Retail shopping centre and biggest casino Increased consumer spending instead of leakage Commercial space for businesses and companies to invest in the area with good transport links.
