Widdowson H G

H.G. Widdowson is a British linguist influential in applied linguistics and stylistics. He wrote extensively on discourse analysis, stylistics, the teaching of language and literature. Some of his notable works include Stylistics and the Teaching of Literature and Explorations in Applied Linguistics. His works have received both praise for their influence and criticism for their theoretical perspectives from other scholars such as Robert de Beaugrande and Norman Fairclough. A festschrift in his honor was published titled Principles and Practice in the Study of Language and Learning.
