Sample Tutorial Comment: Student frequently arrives to tutorial after the start of first period.

While it takes Student a few moments to transition into tutorial upon arrival, he does so successfully with verbal cues. Once focus is gained, Student is successful in completing the tasks on the agenda. To continue to practice his basic decoding skills, Student practices reading Frye sight words from a word list. Student is successful in doing so when giving himself the appropriate amount of time and not making assumptions based on the beginning letters or prefix of a word. Student continues to practice his fluency skills with timed reading fluency passage. While reading, Student focuses on maintaining appropriate phrasing, intonation, enunciation while aiming to read 130 words per minute and allowing only 1 error per 100 words. Student reads aloud and errors are recorded as he reads. Errors include mispronunciation of words, substitution of words by context and confusion of beginning or final details in a word. When he finishes a reading, the errors are reviewed to improve his score the next day. Upon mastery, Student moves onto the next passage. Student also practices decoding words in isolation with words selected from an appropriately challenging word list. During the quarter, Student completed an essay to use in the college application process. He completed the essay using the 5-Step writing process. During the composition process, Student focused on developing and maintaining a thesis that was carried throughout the entirety of the composition. Student also practiced using higher level writing skills by varying sentence structure, and using a mature, developing vocabulary. Upon completion, Student edited his composition by reading the composition aloud, requesting that others peer edit and also edited independently with a proofreading checklist. Student continued to read The Stranger, by Albert Camus. Student practices his oral reading comprehension in class by reading aloud and engaging in discussions about the novel. Student is able to discuss literary elements such as plot, characterization, theme, and symbolism. Homework usually included assigned readings from the novel accompanied by a written (or sometimes oral) summary of the relevant details. When homework is completed, Student can recall accurate details and can accurately sequence events from the plot. Student has inconsistently completed homework assignments this quarter and will consequently lose points on his grade. As the year continues, Student will continue to practice his basic skills and also develop strategies to aid with the organization of time, materials, and information and will also continue to plan for transition.
