Abstract
In tests using species collected from a vineyard site at Kecskemt, water extracts of Conyza canadensis leaves, Digitaria sanguinalis roots and Cirium arvense roots inhibited the germination of Amaranthus retroflexus, while C. canadensis also displayed an inhibitory effect on its own seed germination. Both D. sanguinalis and C. canadensis exerted sufficient allelopathic activity against some vineyard weeds so as to eliminate them from weed succession. Fluorescence induction analysis indicated that the allelopathins chlorogenic and sulfosalicylic acids present in whole plant extracts of D. sanguinalis affected the photosynthetic electron transport capacities of Chenopodium album.
