Friday 14” March, 2008,
To whom it may concern,
Please accept this letter as an open reference for Christianne Cowie which will refer, in particular,
to her excellent management of a PYP ‘mini-exhibition’.
‘A ‘mini exhibition’ is a slight'y smaller version of the full, end of PYP, exhibition. It is a student led
exhibition in which each of the six classes in @ grade level create and perform a ten minute
staged presentation to the wider school community. Alongside the staged performance students
Create displays of work designed to highlight the breadth of trans-disciplinary inquiry into the
chosen theme, The purpose of all being to show the process of learning
A further aim of the exhibition is to show the key elements of the PYP. This is done through
collaboration of specialist and disciplinary teachers, as well as a fusion of the essential elements
of the PYP and of course the leamer profile. Careful assessments and opportunities for student
reflections and self assessments are also created to focus staff and students on the final product.
To provide an example... The latest of the many mini-exhibitions that Christianne has led focused
cn ‘the theme of “species endangerment and extinction’, Through varied and entenaining
presentations on the central idea classes were able to exhibit skills, knowledge, conceptual
Understandings, attitudes, actions taken and development ofthe learner profile, Integration of the
‘Colombian Studies’ programme and more general inquires made by the students allowed for the
learning and presentation of local and global views of the key issues studied. Video interviews of
students and photos of student work were used to link class performances. Musical performances
to highlight the key themes ofthe exhibition opened and closed the event, Students, staf, parents
and theatre managers collaborated in the preparation of the exhibition, The result being a
celebration of leaming and of what is good about the PYP.
‘As can be seen, a mini-exhibtion clearly involves careful planning, excellent time management,
high levels of understanding of the PYP, organisation of parental involvement, a clear vision for
the finished exhibition, liaison skils and organisational skils. All of which Christianne showed in
abundance during the exhibition and through her wider work in the school. Her leadership of
every stage ofthis process enabled staff and students to focus on the final exhibition and, equally
importantly, kept everyone focused on exhibiting the key elements of the PYP. The results were
typical of her highly professional approach and could be considered in every way as of the
highest quality
In closing | would like to highly commend Christiane on the overally quality of what she and her
team produced
Yours Faithfully
