Building bridges in our

communication

Paysandú, 26 November 2008

Most charismatic leaders are very
persuasive.
They can influence others very easily.
Some people seem to be born
with this ability,
whereas others cultivate it
One way to cultivate your
powers of persuasion is
through learning to debate.
A formal debate has specific
rules of order, including the order
of speakers, time limits and
types of responses.
Judges determine whether the
rules have been followed and
points can be scored
Some guidelines for a debate…

• Time limit for answers: three minutes

• To gain points, you must first respond to the
opposing team’s statement before you
make a new statement of your own
• Each person on the team must have a turn
to respond
