Why is chrome detecting internet download manager as malicious whenever I try to add it as an extension?

[Solved] IDM Integration Extension Flagged by Google Chrome

7/25/2013 07:44:00 AM

A latest development has occurred at the Google end. Famous software "Internet Download Manager" which is used by millions of users worldwide has stopped working with Google Chrome. The problem is not at the Tonec Inc. end. Google Chrome has falsely identified IDM integration as a malicious extension. This has annoyed a lot of users and they have decided to revert back to Firefox or Opera browser. Google Chrome has totally blocked this extension and users cannot install it at all. Google has also removed this extension even for those, who installed it some times ago. Luckily there is a solution to fix this problem. Follow the steps given below to install IDM Integration extension in Google Chrome: Step 1: Click on Menu > Settings.

Scroll down and click on "Show Advanced Settings". Then find the "privacy" and uncheck "Enable phishing and malware protection".

Now close the Google Chrome.

Step 2: Go to Internet Download Manager installation directory C:\Program Files\Internet Download Manager. Now find the file "IDMGCExt.crx". Now open the Google Chrome and go to extensions page. Now drag and drop the IDMGCExt.crx into Extensions page.

Now complete the installation. You need to enable

"Allow in Incognito" checkbox. Step 3: Now go back to Menu > Settings > Show Advanced Settings and check the box "Enable phishing and malware protection". This step is important to protect your computer from malware and phishing attacks. [Skip this step]. Now please download something from Google Chrome to check if the extension is working properly or no -------------------------------------------------------------------Ron answered 4 months ago 1. Go to C:\Program Files\Internet Download Manager (for 32bit installation) or C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Download Manager (for 64bit installation) and find the IDMGCExt.crx file. 2. Open the .crx file using 7zip or Winrar and extract the contents of the file into a folder on desktop or any other location you like. Choosing program files as the location is not recommended since you might not have the "write" permission there. 3. Open chrome, go to settings > extensions or type chrome://extensions in the omnibox and press enter, enable developer mode, click "Load unpacked extensions" and choose the directory where you extracted the contents of the .crx file. Then tick the "Allow in incognito" box. 4. You're done. Source: Ilanio Castro's answar in Google Product Forum. http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/Vizxoy58gKs 6 Comment (1)

There's a way to bypass this restriction: - Go to "Internet Download Manager" folder in the "Program Files". - Look for file IDMGCExt.crx (This is the IDM integration extension for Chrome) and change the CRX extension into ZIP - Using 7Zip or Winzip or Winrar extract the contents of the file to a folder on desktop (or where you can write data, since in the program files you need permissions to write) - Copy the folder with the files extracted to the folder of IDM in Program Files - Open extensions page on Google Chrome and enable the developer mode. - Click on button "Load unpacked extension" (or something like that), navigate to the folder where you extracted the files and choose it. Done. IDM extension will be back. Source(s): Google forums o o o 5 Comment (1)

He answered 4 months ago You can deactivate the malware protection in chrome by following these steps: 1. Go to Chrome's options. (If you don't know how to do that, you probably shouldn't do this at all) 2. On the bottom of the options tab click on "Under the hood" to reveal advanced options. 3. Deactivate the "Enable phishing and malware protection" option. IMPORTANT: I'm pretty sure that google didn't flag the IDM extension as malware for no reason. Also by doing this, your computer could be exposed to other malicious sites or extensions. So I would be really cautious or have a backup internet protection before trying this. Lalit Mohan Das answered 4 months ago Lalit Mohan Das: This is the best answer that I got from a thread posted by someone named Ilanio Castro. To bypass this restriction, use the following procedure. - Go to "Internet Download Manager" folder in the "Program Files". - Look for file IDMGCExt.crx (This is the IDM integration extension for Chrome) - Using 7Zip or Winzip or Winrar extract the contents of the file to a folder on desktop (or where you can write data, since in the program files you need permissions to write). To extract, change the property of the file to be opened by WinRAR. Then double click the file. It will be opened in WinRAR. Select all the files and drag them to a new folder. - Copy the folder with the files extracted to the folder of IDM in Program Files - Open extensions page on Google Chrome and enable the developer mode. - Click on button "Load unpacked extension" (or something like that), navigate to the folder where you extracted the files and choose it. Done. IDM extension will be back. -If u restart your system, again the same message will be displayed. But don't worry. Just cancel or press ok. The extension will still be there and u will still be able to download videos from "YouTube". Njoy. Source(s): http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/Vizxoy58gKs o o o 1 Comment

When i saw the message a few minutes ago, I was so close to uninstalling google chrome and switch back to firefox. If this blocking is intentional, it's definitely a blunder from google. there is no solution yet... I already gave up on trying to find a solution for this .. our only hope is a genius to find a solution or the idm developers upload the idm integration extension to the chrome webstore

I've unchecked chrome in idm browser integration but it stills appear.. i cannot disable the extension coz i cant see it in the extension manager.. help thanks.. 1 . Go to GoogleChrome Settings & Then uncheck "enable fishing & malware option " 2. Go to Directory of IDM & drag the file name "IDMGCExt.crx " to extensions in Google Chrome settings o go to setting and disable "Enable phishing and malware protection", then try to install the crx again i knew it from GEO STELAR.. Source(s): http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/Vizxoy58gKs Go to setting in Chrome and disable "Enable phishing and malware protection", then try to install the IDM extension again! works 100% go to setting/Show advanced settings.../Privacy and disable "Enable phishing and malware protection".
