Lesson # 2 Date and Time of Lesson: 10-24-13

Learning Objective: Students will be able to compose simple shapes to form larger shapes. Alignment with Standards: Common Core K.G.B.6 Compose simple shapes to form larger shapes. Developmental Appropriateness or Cross-curricular connections: Students will have been introduced to the introduction tray of the geometric cabinet; therefore, they will know the correct terminology for basic shapes. Assessment(s) of the Objectives: Pre Assessment The pre-assessment to this lesson will be having mastered the introduction tray of the geometric
cabinet. During Assessment The child will be able to give teacher the terminology for a triangle as well as knowing the colors of the triangles. Post Assessment Have student to trace the 10 different triangles within the constructive triangle box on the correct colored pieces of paper and cut them out. This will be used for the student to practice the material at home.

Accommodations:
When following the Montessori method, each child works at their own pace and are given lessons based on individual need. There will be no early or late finishers because each child moves to another lesson whenever they are finished with the current lesson. In this case, the child will move on by making their own constructive triangles using construction paper.

Materials: Constructive triangle box, work mat, construction paper (gray, red, yellow, and green), scissors, and a pencil. Procedures:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. 16. 17. 18. Invite child to join me for lesson. Ask child to go get a work mat, unroll it, and place their nametag on it. Take child to shelf and show them where you are retrieving the material. Carry the material back to the work mat. Remove top from the constructive triangle box. Place triangle box in the top left hand corner of mat. Take out the first triangle. Ask child, What is this shape? and What color is it? Once the child answers finish removing all of the pieces out of the box. Once all pieces are on the mat, tell the child, All of these are triangles. Begin putting together the first triangle (2 pieces) Do this by tracing the black lines and sliding the triangle together. Once the triangle is together trace over the black line. Compare the first gray triangle (1 pieces) to the green right triangles (2 pieces) to show the child that they are the same. Repeat steps 11-14 for the next two triangles (3 pieces- yellow and 4 pieces- red) As an extension to the lesson, show the child that you can form one big triangle out of the four triangles that you have just created. Place each triangle back in the box in reverse order of how you removed them. Tell the child that they can work with this lesson any time they would like.

Activity Analysis:
Students will work with the constructive triangle box at work time. They will be able to make their own constructive triangles to work with at home by using construction paper. There will be no technology used in this lesson because the beauty of the Montessori materials is sufficient without technology.
