Connections (prior learning/prior knowledge): Students are familiar with The Kiss, one of the most famous paintings Students are familiar with patterns from clothing, tablecloths, curtains, etc. Resources/Materials Teacher: Images of artworks by Gustave Klimt, arts and crafts movement patterns Students: 18 x 24 drawing paper, oil crayon, ink, gold oil crayon or paint stick
Assessment (How will you monitor progress and know students have successfully met outcomes?) Daily: Daily observations of sketches/paintings as they are being developed This Week: Completion of the sketch Unit: Final piece and participation in critique
Time allotted MONDAY 11/18 Learning Target- TSW learn how Gustave Klimt was inspired by pattern and Byzantine art to make beautifully designed figure paintings. TSW know this when he/she makes a sketch for his/her own pattern figure painting.

TUESDAY 11/19 Learning Target-TSW learn how to create a strong design for a figure/pattern painting. TSW know this when his/her design is balanced in color and form. WENDESDAY 11/20 TargetTSW learn to check to make sure his/her piece is balanced. TSW know this when the pieces feels balanced after flipping it on each side. THURSDAY 11/21 TargetTSW learn to give feedback to peers and incorporate it into final piece. TSW know this when the student incorporates feedback into his/her piece. FRIDAY 11/22 TargetTSW learn how to be sure there is strong contrast in his/her piece. He/she will know this when warm/cool and light/dark colors are evenly placed through the piece and create contrast. MONDAY 11/23 TUESDAY 11/24 TargetTSW participate effectively in a critique. TSW know this when he/she makes several constructive comments in the critique.
