Reading: This week well begin literature circles by reading the book Maniac Magee. Well practice our discussion roles and learn how to participate in lit. circles. We will study the Ideas trait. Our writing becomes better when we can develop a single, focused idea to build out piece. Ratios! This is a building block topic in sixth grade. Well create ratios, find equivalent ratios and learn to solve problems where a component of the ratio is missing. Our class will practice the science basics this week with a Method and Measurement unit. Well learn lab procedures, how to write-up an experiment, and metric measurement. August 29 September 2

One week down! We are off to a great start. Students are already working hard to show me what they know. This week will be business as usual, so I hope your students are ready! On Friday, we sent home donation drive envelopes. Supporting this fundraiser helps JTSD purchase new science and technology equipment. All money collected is used for student needs. Please consider donating to this drive. No amount is too small. The top earner in each grade level get to go out to lunch with Dr. C and Mrs. Boone. They also go rock climbing.
