Alimak is the leading supplier of Rack & Pinion driven lifts for passengers and material. The lifts are designed and constructed for operation in demanding industrial environments where conditions usually prevent the use of conventional rope lifts.

Lift design
Alimak lifts need no separate lift shaft or machine room and can be installed in very confined spaces. In the offshore industry, Alimak lifts are installed in hull columns, on derricks and flare towers, outside platform modules and underneath helicopter decks. They provide safe and convenient access to pump and machine rooms and other critical areas. Other typical applications for the lifts are crackers and silos in refineries, LNG tanks and similar locations. When installed in hazardous areas, Alimak lifts are delivered explosion protected for Zone 1 or Zone 2 with gases Group IIBT4 or IICT4 as per IEC79 (similar to Class 1, Div. 2, Group B, C or D according to NEC of USA).

The drive unit is located on top of the car.

Safety
The Alimak Rack & Pinion lift has obvious advantages over traction lifts. One very important feature is that in case of a power outage, the car can slide back to the nearest landing by gravity at controlled speed using the centrifugal brake. If the rated speed is exceeded, the car is stopped automatically by a safety device.

Installation
The lift car and drive system are completely assembled, wired and tested at the factory before delivery. This ready-to-use package ensures fast installation as time consuming and expensive corrective measures at the jobsite are avoided.
Alimak lifts are based on a modular design enabling a wide range of car sizes and loading capacities.

The lifts are easy to retrofit to existing structures.
