1950s: Was this Really the Age of Prosperity? SS11 (2-3). (2-4) - Students will understand post-war era not beneficial for everyone - Students will investigate multiple perspectives of the 1950s - Students will decide whether the 1950s was an age of prosperity (set up desks before students come in from lunch/previous period) 5-10min: - Agenda for today (Intro to topic) - Show picture on board which depict prosperity of 1950s era, pass out post-its, students comment one word about the pictures and post on chalkboard; from these pictures, what was the 1950s like? (prosperous, white, happy, etc._ - Teacher introduces class to lesson question (title of lesson) and speaks briefly about/ contrasts home sentiment with international turmoil of Cold War (Define: prosperity on definition sheet)

Speed-Networking/Speed-Dating Activity: 15min: - Introduce activity as an ode to Valentines Day - Inform students they will take on perspective of Canadian during 1950s - Pass out identity card to each student, students responsible to write brief bio on their character; every character different from their neighbour (in textbook). Students must focus on most historically significant details. 30min: - Move desks: every student starts with their pair facing each other on opposite seats; they have to interview the person sitting across from them Students then rotate to new partner with new personality from 1950s - Students fill out given form as they go with names corresponding to each letter, collecting information about each personality they encounter. - Timed: every student gets 5 minutes for conversation with new partner
