EDTA - ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (read as ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid) EDTA as the acid form or as various sodium salts,

is a powerful s equestering or chelating agent used primarily where metals such as iron or copper are present in water and may interfere with preparation or dyeing processes. It is sometimes used to sequester hardness ions such as calcium and magnesium. EDTA may not be suitable for use with premetallized dyes, since it may be capable of removing the metal from the dye. {Rev 3.0.0a}
