Outcomes 2013 Region 5 Parent Technical Assistance Centers Meeting

May 29-31, 2013

Region 5 Conference participants will: 1. Network with staff and Board from other Region 5 Parent Centers to share knowledge, resources, and expertise. 2. Communicate with OSEP, NPTAC, and RPTAC leadership regarding information and current parent center issues (Directors Session). 3. Discover effective strategies to increase a Parent Centers capacity for outreach to diverse populations, with an understanding of history. 4. Receive Technical Assistance with your Parent Centers Strategic Technology Planning. 5. Gain knowledge and strategies that support children to conquer personal challenges and achieve success. 6. Connect with Equity Centers to learn about services, initiatives, and available resources. 7. Explore strategies that Parent Centers can utilize to forward systems change in their states. 8. Learn about successful collaboration within a state to provide high quality professional development. 9. Gain knowledge of the Unauthorized Practice of Law. 10. Learn about the Common Core State Standards and how students with disabilities fit into those standards. 11. Examine implications of Flexibility Waivers for students with disabilities.

12. Learn about the new Center on Online Learning and Students with Disabilities and how Parent Centers can get involved. 13. Learn about the initiatives and approach of the new Schoolwide Integrated Framework for Transformation (SWIFT) Center. 14. Hear from brothers and sisters of people with disabilities as they examine new ways of looking at the contributions and potential that have resulted from their family experiences. 15. Discover new tools and strategies to assist Parent Centers with Dissemination. 16. Strengthen their knowledge of Part Cs new regulations and strategies to ensure a successful transition from Part C to Part B. 17. Increase their understanding of the relationship between disability advocacy and civil rights.
