TACTICAL PISTOL MONADNOCK EXPANDABLE BATON INSTRUCTOR


The training curriculum for the Monadnock Expandable Baton Instructor course is a one-day, eight-hour course. Participants must be sworn Police Officers, Correctional Officers or currently in the Military. Course particpants will complete part of the course in the classroom, reviewing Use of Force, Force Options and complete a short written exam. Participants will spend a majority of their time learning Proper Stance, Baton Grips, Baton Draws, Striking Techniques and Blocking Techniques. Students will complete a proficiency exam at the end of training. Instructor: Eric Stratton This course offers the opportunity to develop and refine basic shooting skills and to concentrate on the dynamic tactical utilization of the pistol for the individual officer.

INSTINCTIVE POINT SHOOTING INSTRUCTOR


This 2 day lecture and hands-on live fire course is designed to give the firearms instructor the working knowledge needed to instruct others in the technique of point shooting. Instructor will learn the benefits of point shooting over aimed shooting and how to develop a point shooting program within their own agency. Realistic courses of fire as well as target analysis will be discussed. Instructor: Mike Rayburn

FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR
Instructor certification is our most important responsibility. Teaching officers to instruct others in the fundamentals of firearms utilization and survival requires preparation. In addition to basic instructional skills development with the revolver, pistol and shotgun, methods of instruction, range operation/exercises, lesson plan development, liability and handgun flashlight techniques will be covered.

ACTIVE SHOOTER INSTRUCTOR


This 5-day program examines various tactical theories and puts them into application. The primary purpose of this program is to deal with active shooter issues and deal with realistic methods of operations including officer down rescue, team considerations, methods of assessments and practical application of force.

MONADNOCK EXPANDABLE BATON ADVANCED INST.


The training curriculum for the Monadnock Expandable Baton Advanced Instructor course is a two-day, sixteen-hour course. The Advanced Certification is a continuation of the Basic Instructor certification. Students will review the Basic Baton Certification curriculum and also learn the control and takedown techniques. Participants will complete a proficiency exam at the end of training. Instructor: Eric Stratton

FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR UPDATE


Designed to keep Firearms Instructors up-to-date on todays issues and remain current. S&W Instructors are required to attend an Update/Recertification program every 3 years. Active firearms instructors not certified by the Academy are also encouraged to participate.

RANGE MASTER
This course will assist the officer in developing integrated training programs in the areas of law enforcement handgun, shotgun, patrol rifle, submachine gun and precision rifle and will also cover range design and the regulations and health hazards of firearms ranges. As this is an advanced course, the student will need to have attended a previous 40-hour firearms instructor school. Instructor: Mike Carter

LAW ENFORCEMENT PATROL RIFLE INSTRUCTOR HOW TO SURVIVE A SHOOTING


This course is designed to take the participant through several scenarios taken from real incidents that law enforcement officers have encountered. Students will shoot both live rounds and participate in force on force scenarios using SIMS marking cartridges. Officers will work on technique like one-handed shooting, shooting from a vehicle, shooting while injured and moving while shooting. Special attention is paid to instructing students on how to give first aid to themselves or downed officers or civilians. Instructor: Eric Stratton This course will satisfy instructor certification requirements for training officers in the use of those rifle/carbines suitable for law enforcement. Tactical use of the weapon is stressed as is the judicial use of deadly force at close to intermediate ranges.

TACTICAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL SPECIALIST TACTICAL SCOPE RIFLE


Designed to develop and enhance the skills of the assigned tactical observer/marksman in law enforcement, armed security, corrections, military law enforcement and other armed professions. Instructor: Graham Maxfield This 3 day program is designed for the Tactical Officer or Emergency Medical Technician assigned to support a Special Response Team. The class will include lecture, hands-on skills and an intensive final day for participants to use and hone their new skills. Lectures will include topics on team health, medical mission planning, equipment selection and use, remote assessments and treatment, ballistics and less-lethal weapon injuries, booby traps, care under fire and common injuries associated with SWAT/SRT operations. Instructor: Eric Stratton ADVANCED TACTICAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL SPECIALIST The Advanced TEMS course will enhance and expand a TEMS Operator skill level. This course is designed to cover VIP medicine, meth lab hazards, hostage incident, booby traps, eye injuries, WMD and multi-room clearing. Participants will be guided through several scenarios in which the principal (VIP) is injured and the TEMS operator has to extricate. Evacuate and render aid while in a hostile area. Participants will also don SCBAs and protective gear to enter mock meth labs and terrorist WMD labs as part of the training. TEMS operators taking this course will also be taught how to handle a hostage incident from the initial assessment to the final assault. Massachusetts OEMS credit (16 hrs.) OFFICER DOWN RESCUE II


This is an add-on course to the original Officer Down Rescue Course. Participants will complete Live-Fire exercises demonstrating the rescue techniques that students learned on the previous day. Instructor: Eric Stratton

SUBMACHINE GUN INSTRUCTOR


Provides an in-depth look at the applicability of the submachine gun to the law enforcement environment. Focus of the program is on developing technical skills with the submachine gun and an understanding of the firearm. Instructor: John Newman

MEDICAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST


Course participants will learn the various medical skills on how to medically treat a VIP/principal prior to and during a mission. Medical skills will include: basic medical exams, life saving skills such as wound management, airway management and IV therapy. In addition, students will spend time on the range working on shooting and moving skills while protecting the VIP/Principal. On the final day students will engage in force on force drills that will require the students to engage or move from hostile fire and render aid to the VIP/Principal. Instructor: Eric Stratton

CHEMICAL MUNITIONS INSTRUCTOR


This course provides a complete overview of the use of both traditional chemical agent munitions, crowd control techniques, and aerosol devices. CONTRACT BASIS ONLY

DEFENSIVE TACTICS INSTRUCTOR


The PPCT Defensive Tactics System is the first subject control system developed through tactical, legal and medical research. It addresses the most common types of resistance officers encounter, allowing the instructor candidate to maximize training time on job-related techniques. Instructor: PPCT Staff

SUBMACHINE GUN OPERATORS


This 3-day course will satisfy operators certification requirements by training officers in the use of those submachine guns suitable for law enforcement and security professionals. Tactical use of the weapon is stressed throughout the course, addressing the judicious use of deadly force at close to intermediate range. Precision shooting application will be addressed as well. In this context, this course is suitable for those wishing to address use of the submachine gun in police, corrections, protective services or armed security operations. Instructor: John Newman

HANDCUFFING INSTRUCTOR
Handcuffing techniques are the centerpoint for many assaults on officers and much litigation concerning the use of force. This course is designed to give the instructor the necessary background to conduct a comprehensive handcuffing program for his or her agency.

OFFICER DOWN RESCUE


This 8-hour class (2 hour classroom; 2 hour hands-on and 4 hour SIM scenarios) will help prepare law enforcement officers and EMS personnel to work together to rescue a downed officer. The training will utilize ballistic shields and the tactical blanket. To make the training as realistic as possible, SIMS will be utilized for the last 4 hours of training scenarios. ARMORERS SCHOOL
INSTRUCTOR RECERTIFICATION POLICY
We often have requests to recertify the credentials of Smith & Wesson Academy trained Firearms Instructors by means other than the Firearms Instructor Update and Recertification course, which was designed for that purpose. Our policy is for every 3-year period, the recertification may be obtained with any 5-day Smith & Wesson Academy instructor level firearms course. So, at least every 6 years, the Firearms Instructor Update and Recertification course must be taken. As always, the staff at Smith & Wesson Academy urges you to take at least one training course per year to broaden your training experience as much as possible. ADVANCED HANDGUN INSTRUCTOR The following 2 courses must be successfully completed in order to be eligible for this certification: 1. Tactical Pistol, and 2. Firearms Instructor These courses may be completed in any order, but must be completed within 3 years of each other. Upon successful completion of both courses, the attendee will be awarded an additional certification. The Advanced certification will be considered current for a period of three years from the date it is awarded. SCOPED-SIGHTED RIFLE INSTRUCTOR CERT. The following courses must be successfully completed in order to be eligible for this certification: 1. Law Enforcement Patrol Rifle Instructor, and 2. Tactical Scoped Rifle These courses may be completed in any order, but must be completed within 3 years of each other. Upon successful completion of both courses, the attendee will be awarded an additional certification. This certification will be considered current for a period of three years from the date it is awarded. The Armorers School is designed for the law enforcement armorer. Successful completion of these courses will enable the armorer to keep their department firearms in safe operating condition. These courses will concentrate on the function of various parts, fitting procedures, and inspection techniques to keep their firearm within factory standards. When attending a course at the Smith & Wesson Academy in Springfield, MA, a hi-tech video system is used with large screen monitors to demonstrate these procedures in real time. Also, easy-to-follow, step-by-step manuals are used to enhance the students comprehension of these courses. Courses can be completed at the Smith & Wesson Academy or at field schools around the country. Students attending S&W Armorers training from outside the United States will require a DSP5 license from the State Department to take a technical manual out of the U.S. For more information, please call 413-846-6461.

REVOLVER
This course is designed for departments carrying Smith & Wesson duty-type revolvers. It will focus on inspection, trouble shooting, and repair techniques. The course outline is similar to the pistol course covering topics such as disassembly, fitting of new parts, and reassembly. The main difference will focus on past and present designs. Lessons will be performed on past designs first to expose the armorer to revolver function, and then present designs and repair techniques will be covered in depth to ensure confidence in revolver repair and maintenance.

REVOLVER/J FRAME DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER


This new, 4-day course is designed for departments carrying Smith & Wesson duty-type revolvers including the J-Frame revolver. The course description is the same as the Revolver program with the added day for the J-Frame revolvers.

3RD GENERATION PISTOL


This course is designed for departments carrying duty-type Smith & Wesson pistols. It will focus on disassembly, repair, and reassembly, as well as functioning of various systems. Performing lessons repeatedly will ensure good hands-on instruction for better understanding of this firearm. The course will include the Traditional Single/Double Action, and Double Action Only pistols. The Sigma Series is not covered in this course.

SW99/WALTHER P99 PISTOL


This course is designed for departments carrying the Smith & Wesson SW99 Series or the Walther P99 Series pistols. Focus will be on disassembly, repair, and reassembly as well as functioning of various systems. Performing lessons repeatedly will ensure good hands-on instruction for a better understanding of these firearms.

REVOLVER OR PISTOL RECERTIFICATION


Both courses will cover general information learned during initial certification. In addition to this, emphasis will be placed on current designs, inspection techniques, and fitting methods. Students will also inspect and trouble shoot several firearms with specific problems commonly seen in the field. This will reinforce their ability to correct problems they encounter with confidence. Armorers should be RECERTIFIED EVERY FOUR YEARS. Students may recertify at a 3-day field school in their region.

M&P PISTOL
This course is designed for departments carrying the Smith & Wesson M&P pistol. Focus will be on nomenclature, field stripping and maintenance, safeties and safety checks, detailed disassembly, troubleshooting and minor repairs. Performing lessons repeatedly will insure good hands-on instruction for a better understanding of this firearm.

M&P RIFLE
This course is designed for departments issuing the Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Rifle. Focus will be on nomenclature, field stripping and maintenance, safeties and safety checks, detailed disassembly of both the upper and receivers, troubleshooting and minor repairs. Performing lessons repeatedly will ensure good hands-on instruction for a better understanding of this rifle.

J FRAME DOUBLE ACTION ONLY REVOLVER

Field Schools
Bringing law enforcement officers high quality, up-to-date instruction often means going a step further - so we take professional training to you in your own facilities. Our field school program brings you regularly scheduled courses or courses tailored to your agencys specific needs. Even if your agency cant host a field school, you can attend one. Call us to obtain a list of school locations and dates. Contact host agencies for application and travel information. For answers to your questions on hosting a field school, call our office at (413) 846-6461. Smith & Wesson Academy courses can be conducted at your location, providing your agency has adequate classroom space and equipment for the number of students enrolled and a suitable range and targets for the type of program requested. Courses may be conducted on a tuition-per-student basis or under contract. On a contract basis, a fee is quoted for the number of students guaranteed by the host agency.
HOST RESPONSIBILITIES For both Academy and Armorer programs, applications will be sent to the host coordinator for distribution. The Academy field school host can choose to be responsible for collecting applications and payments, sending a brief confirmation, and providing travel and motel information and a list of equipment to be supplied to the student (including ammunition). The Academy will furnish the list of required equipment. The host may choose to have applications sent directly to the Academy for confirmation and information distribution. Travel and motel information will be provided to the Academy.
