This is one decision not to be taken lightly not only is your Bauwerk parquet set to become the largest item of furniture in your home, you are also about to spend a very long time together. Over the next few pages, let yourself be inspired by the various types and colours of wood we have on offer! Sometimes spontaneity is the answer and the first choice turns out to be the right one. At other times, however, some thought and consideration are necessary before that elusive favourite reveals itself. At the side of each page you will find compact and easily-detachable colour samples which should be of great help to you in your search for curtains, covers and other items of furniture that fit well together above all, that fit really well to you! Dont forget that most types of wood are also available in different gradings. Various factors are significant in the raw wood grading process. The appearance of oak parquet, for example, could be either calm and understated or it could also be structured and vibrant. That choice is up to you! Though there is variation in the grain patterns, the fundamental colour of each wood type is the same regardless of grading. The images offer only an approximate impression of the types and colours of wood. We strongly recommend that you view the parquet of your choice in natura either at your flooring specialist or at one of our exhibitions! Maple is particularly species-rich and is prevalent in Europe, Canada and America. It processes well and is highly resistant to wear and tear. On top of that, maple is known as a bright and cheerful type of wood, evoking harmony in the home and reconciling differences for example, those between male and female inhabitants. Maple also stands for calmness and equanimity. Depending on the type, the appearance of maple can vary. It ranges in colour from
very light almost white to a light brown and even a reddish-grey tone. Canadian maple is yellowish-brown and is distinctly darker and harder than its European counterpart. Its wood structure is consistent and characterised by fine pores. In terms of grain, European maple is more understated than Canadian maple. This light and finely pored wood is particularly suitable for smooth surfaces such as parquet and stairs, panelling, furniture fronts and table tops.

The acacia tree is a member of the papilio naceae family and comprises more than 1,200 species. The deciduous acacia tree is found in both bush and tree form and its wood is typically of European origin. Acacia wood is heavy and hard and its strength values are considerably higher than that of oak; it doesnt split easy, it is tough, elastic and very bendable. As with ash, acacia wood displays an above-average loading capacity under dynamic strain. Acacia wood
can withstand the harshest of weather conditions for decades. Once it is dry, it is highly resilient. Experiments have shown that acacia wood stays durable for over 80 years. It is a native tree that has similar if not better properties than teak. Furthermore, it is the only wood grown in Europe that complies with resistance class 1, making it suitable for outside use without being impregnated. A worthwile alternative to tropical timber.

Beech conveys a sense of austerity, clarity and order. According to tradition, beech promotes vitality, it offers comfort and proffers words of wisdom in times of personal difficulties. In the past, beech was employed as a weather prophet: At the beginning of November, a cut was made in a tree-trunk using an axe. If the cut remained dry, a harsh winter was expected. Beech
wood is characteristically light-yellow to pink-brown in colour. The grain is marked with broad streaks which, when the trunk is cut diagonally, form the so-called flader, a flame-shaped grain pattern. Its wood can be bent if steamed and is easy to stain. Beech is used in the production of parquet flooring, stairs, panelling and furniture.

In the last few years, Doussie has been playing an increasingly important role in Europe. Because of its medium-red caramel hue, it is often referred to as cherry. In contrast to other red woods though, its hue is less vibrant and dominant. Due to its cosiness and warmth it exudes a homely chara cter which allows it to combine well with wooden furniture and other materials. This
is due to the woods elegant grain, which unfolds its unique character in sweeping and expansive waves and partially alternating spirals. Doussie parquet goes well with light earthy colours, light materials, beige covers as well as strong dark primary colours. This inherently stable wood is particularly suitable for use in flooring, bathrooms and outdoor terraces.

As well as featuring prominently in European forests, the deciduous oak tree also plays a significant role in the timber industry. The most prominent species used in oak wood production is the English oak, also referred to as common oak or pedunculate oak. Oaks traditionally symbolize steadfastness and power, resilience and rigour, endurance and patient maturation. Oak wood is believed to protect virtue, reveal the truth and have revitalizing powers. It has a grey-yellow to yellow-brownish core
which distinguishes itself from the colour of the surrounding sap wood. The distinct growth rings bestow the wood grain with a uniformity impressed with either very narrow or broad streaks. When used as beams in half-timbered buildings, oak can even endure for up to several hundred years. Due to its moisture-resistant qualities and its distinctive aroma, it is also employed in the production of casks for storing wine, whiskey or sherry.

Ash wood is very solid and flexible and has a distinctive grain. It is believed to be a symbol for life, strength and nearness to heaven in the Germanic Edda legend, the world ash tree Yggdrasil provides sanc tuary for all creatures. Ash is said to have healing properties, to be particularly effective against tension. The woods appearance
is light and large-pored. It is particularly well suited to staining and colouring. The woods elastic properties combined with its hardness make ash a popular choice for sports equipment and tool handles (hammers, axes, shovels). The jatoba tree, also known as Brasilian cherry, stands out for its reddish-brown colouring. It is a relatively solid hardwood and, due to its good to excellent technical properties, it is used for parquet flooring and stairs. Owing to its rather gentle grain, the wood exudes a decorative and elegant charisma. Though it darkens quickly to reddish-brown, in its freshly-cut condition, the heartwood has an orange-brown to vio-
let colour. It is often ornamental, streaked with darker veins. Jatoba parquet floors, which are almost knotless, are renowned for their exceptional hardness. Though the processing utilizes more energy due to the above-average hardness, the tools are not put under exceptional strain.

The American walnut tree is prevalent in Florida, Texas, Nebraska, Canada and Kansas as well as in some parts of Europe. For centuries, walnut has been one of the most popular types of wood. The tree can grow as high as 40 meters and have a diameter of up to three meters. Its wood is almost knotless. Walnut heartwood has a dark-brown to violet-black colouring while the sap wood is rather grey-brown to light
yellow in colour. Over time, the heartwood can darken to some degree. Variations in colour and grain as well as the distinctly visible growth rings give the wood a parti cularly ornamental appearance. American walnut, which is one of the most beautiful and refined types of wood, is used predomi nantly in timber construction and parquet flooring. When used for flooring, the wood is steamed to intensify the colours.
