Anti-Semitism in the Social Networks?

With the technological advances the doors to the social networks have been opened, among the ones with the greater number of users we can find Facebook and Twitter. The use of these networks allows for a faster and more direct communication with family, friends and with people whom we have similar interests. The networks dont have frontiers, from a PC, a laptop or a Smartphone we can be connected with the world. Through these networks we can exchange photos, personal information, give our opinion on issues even give good or bad news. A message transmitted in them, in just seconds, can be received by thousands of persons at the same time, regardless the part of the world they are in. An example of this has been the transmission, via Twitter, of messages from the countries facing political problems lately. When we register in any of these systems, we are asked to read the Conditions and Usage Policies, which are the fine print found at the end of a contract, but that on a few occasions we take the time to read. Supposedly whats established on these Policies applies, equally, to all users, but if we take a short tour we find out that that is not the case.

Next we make a special mention of the Policies of the social network called Facebook. In their Statement of Rights and Responsibilities Point 3 Safety we find: N7 You will not post content that: is hateful, threatening, or pornographic; incites violence; or contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence.

N10 You will not use Facebook to do anything unlawful, misleading, malicious, or discriminatory. If we take into account the previous statements, no Facebook user can incite violence or do anything malicious or discriminatory. As we all know, the founder of the company, young Mark Elliot Zuckerberg, is of Jewish origin so that is why we dont understand why when a Jewish organization uploads to its Facebook profile a note or a cartoon, without violating the aforementioned points, this is immediately deleted by the administrators of the network. The opposite happens with pages promoted by the terrorist group Hams, the term terrorist was given by international organisms, who freely endorse those actions, incite violence and hatred towards Israel and those who practice the Jewish religion.

In our tour we found many pages, of which we will only show the following:

In an image gallery we can find a series of cartoons that need no comment from us to explain the message conveyed.

Legend: Many mothers still wait for their children, prisoners of Israel

Legend: Jewish child: My dad told me you are wicked and terrorists Palestinian child: My dad did not say anything; he was KILLED by you

Note: Among the commentaries added by the persons who visit the page we can find: - (Sic) The worst scum that has ever existed in humanity are the damn jews!! 1 free palestine ;) - (Sic) We must put an end to Israel its about time we give those murderers what they deserve. - (Sic) Now I understand why Adolf Hitler wanted to get rid of them, too bad they didnt let him.

Legend: Long live the fight of the Palestinian people! Down with the occupation!!

Legend: This is my land and my house!

Associated to this page and with similar contents we find the following:

A comment (Sic): Palestine resist the world is with you!!! Little by little wake up!!! And support your right brothers united we will forge ahead!!!! All for a free Palestine!!!!

Note: This last one is Venezuelan, and I can assure you that most of its visitors, dont know where the Gaza Strip is located on a map.

The other social network we visited is Twitter for being the most widely used to divulge information, because of the immediacy of transmission.

The Twitter Rules Our goal is to provide a service that allows you to discover and receive content from sources that interest you as well as to share your content with others. We respect the ownership of the content that users share and each user is responsible for the content he or she provides. Because of these principles, we do not actively monitor users content and will not censor user content, except in limited circumstances described below.

Content Boundaries and Use of Twitter

* Violence and Threats: You may not publish or post direct, specific threats of violence against others. * Unlawful Use: You may not use our service for any unlawful purposes or in furtherance of illegal activities. International users agree to comply with all local laws regarding online conduct and acceptable content

* Pornography: You may not use obscene or pornographic images in either your profile picture or user background. For Twitter, the user is responsible of the content he or she provides, but at the same time within the limitations of the contents we find that it is not allowed the posting of messages that incite violence, as well as it is not allowed the promotion of illegal activities. It stands out the prohibition on pornography in Twitter, thing which we totally support, but no mention is made on the use of the network for the transmission of messages from terrorists groups.

On the 6th in the blog of the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) in their english version, we found the following information: http://www.idfblog.com/hamas/2012/02/06/hamas-tweetskilling-jews-conquering-jerusalem/ Hamas Tweets for Killing Jews and Conquering Jerusalem Since Hamas began tweeting on November 21, 2009 it has amassed a fellowship of almost 20,000 followers on its various accounts. These accounts include those of Hamas Info the main organizations office, Hamas military arm the Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas media wing Al- Aqsa TV, Hamas political Bureau deputy chairman Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook, senior Hamas official Izzat Rishq, and two accounts for Hamas radio Hamas uses its accounts to tweet news flashes, report attacks, battles and other operational activities, and share videos. However, the main focus of Hamas tweets are the dispersion of Propaganda, including calls for Jihad and martyrdom, the expulsion and killing of Jews , and for conquering Jerusalem All accounts send their tweets almost exclusively in arabic and are used to disperse Hamas hateful propaganda messages. The following are only a few examples of tweets sent by the Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades:

PM Haniya, We clearly say that the militant resistance is the only way for liberating the land. December 14, 2011 Al Qassam Brigades vows qassam.ps/news-5044-Al_Q October 23, 2011 One Nation For New Holocaust, God willing. check this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETt2FHdy8Kc April 7, 2011 Hamas calls for forming Arab army Jerusalem qassam.ps/news-5208-Hama December 21, 2011 to liberate O. to abduct more soldiers

Hamas and its armed wing, the Ezzedeen al-Qassam Brigades, are designated as terrorist organizations by the US, EU, Israel, Japan and Canada. Al-Aqsa TV Channel is designated as a terrorist-funding organization by the U.S. Treasury Department and Mousa Abu Marzook is listed as a Specially Designated Terrorist on the U.S. Treasury Departments Specially Designated National list. Not only does Hams has multiple accounts in Twitter, the socalled Associations that claim to work for a free Palestine, they appear with the same name ordered numerically, for example: @xxpal, @xxpal2, @xxpal3. The tweets of these accounts contain more or less the same message in different languages, inciting the destruction of Israel and the promotion of the hatred towards the Jews.

Conclusion

The globalization of the information, through the social networks, is one of the great benefits provided by technology. But at the same time, the multiple sources of mass information that run through these networks are creating disinformation by not making a rational use of those. The networks are being used by terrorist organizations for the transmission of false news and for the publishing of contents that incite hate and the discrimination by creed, race or sex. The purpose of said action is no other than to make their lies be read millions of users. The proliferation of Facebook pages and Twitter accounts, inciting the destruction of Israel and of the Jewish people appear to go under the radar of the people in charge of the social networks, who allow their functioning. Hence our Networks? initial question Anti-Semitism in the Social
