Goal #1:

Unit Plan within the Specific School Context Inform my unit planning processes with my knowledge of the school context and the students backgrounds. Choose topics and unit topics that will be applicable to the real lives of my students. Indicators and Measures of Achievement: Students are engaged in the learning process. Students are involved in the classroom activities. Students engage in discussions around the application of topics in their own life. Students enjoy interacting with me on a day to day basis.

Strategies: Discuss topics and activities with my teacher associate and university consultant. Observe effective unit plans as they are taught in the school context by more experienced teachers. Develop plans to implement effective teaching strategies and activities that are pertinent to the school context. Consult with teacher associate and university consultant about weaknesses and areas to improve. Implement suggested improvements. Time Line: March 7, 2013 April 25, 2013

Goal #2: Meaningful Relationships with Students


Develop relationships with students the will inform my teaching practices. Work to get to know my students and their backgrounds in order to develop a trusting relationship. Indicators and Measures of Achievement: Students come to me with issues and topics they would like to discuss in class. Students confide in me when they are experiencing difficulties in their own lives. I feel connected to my students. I feel the desire to be involved in extra-curricular activities with the students.

Strategies: Share my own story with the students and be open to allowing my students to get to know me. Plan lessons with appropriate time allowances for open discussion with the students. Be free to talk with students during free time and be willing to help them. Get to know students on a personal basis and understand the effects of their backgrounds on their own situation. Goal #3:

Enjoy Practicum Do not become over stressed. Develop a professional and supportive relationship with my teacher associate. Indicators and Measures of Achievement: I am excited to arrive at school each day. Students are excited to see and interact with me. Teacher associate and other members of the staff enjoy working with me. I have a positive out look on the profession of teaching when practicum is over. I am not too stressed or overwhelmed. Strategies: Get to know teacher associate personally Use constructive criticism effectively and dont take it personally. Be open-minded. Consult with university consultant and teacher associate when difficulties arise. Manage time effectively to allow sufficient time to complete required work by deadlines. Be organized.
