FESTIVALS

• Much of the festivities that the city of Murcia has


throughout the year revolve around the cult of its
patron saint, the Virgin of Fuensanta, marking the
beginning and the end of them.
But within the many festivals and celebrations
which is the capital of the region, the Holy Week is
both a great feast and expression of religious
sentiment.
After the Passion Week, burst into Murcia Spring
Festivals, which highlighted the celebration of the
Bando de la Huerta and the Burial of the Sardine,
recently declared International Tourist Interest.
BANDO DE LA HUERTA
• All activity, except for bars and
restaurants that are working
tirelessly to serve all. In all the
following Tuesday to Sunday of
resurrection celebrates the
“Bando de la Huerta”, a parade
started in the nineteenth
century by a group led by
“huertanos” who moved to the
city mounted on horses and

group of students in pursuit of a
remarkable irony, formed a
funeral procession headed by a
sardine, a symbol of the time of
fasting and abstinence. Flags
and banners, floats referring to
the gods of Olympus, brass
bands, processions, carnival
groups, Chinese dragon, and
fireworks hachoneros give life
to a festival that brings
together a mass of spectators
from across the region.
Burial in the clusters are
Sardinero composed of adults,
who paraded down the street to
give toys to children and fill the
streets of Murcia forward with
its diverse attractions and
costumes
X-MAS
• Finally, it is necessary to
emphasize that Christmas is
different in Murcia. Its mild
climate allows a walk to visit
shops, squares and streets
and see the scenes that are
described in great tradition in
this city and take a snack at
any of its many terraces. It
also offers samples of crafts,
music cycles, Auto Kings,
horseback riding and the
presence in the city of Aurora
Bells.
