PICK AND PLACE APPLICATION – MACHINE TOOLS

Machine tool pick and place applications require rapid motion usually in two
directions and often in demanding conditions. A combination of a HepcoMotion
DLS5 belt driven system for the X-axis and a rack driven compact beam HB25C
for the Z-axis will ensure on going reliability around the clock.

The X-axis is 2.5 metres

long with a stroke of just
over 2 metres. To keep the
number of components down
and to save on unnecessary
fixing plates the main
carriage for the DLS5 unit
incorporates all the fixings
for the Z axis carriage to be
easily located. The Z-axis
900mm stroke HB25C
compact beam is fitted
with single edge slides from
the GV3 range, one with
an integral rack for a
compact drive solution.
AC motors and gearboxes
are used on both axes.
Duty cycle – The pneumatic gripper picks up the steel component for placing in the machine, after
the machining operation the finished turned component is placed on the conveyor. The picking of
a completed machined component and placing of a blank for machining has to take place within
8 seconds and with a product weight of nearly 10kg a round the clock operation system reliability
is vital.
The easy way in which HepcoMotion products with different drive methods can be linked was an
important factor in this customer’s choice of supplier.
