Chapter One Tasks 1. The purpose of CM.

Before I read the two chapters, I thought of CM in a narrower aspect, relying more on the students behavior level. However, after the reading task, I extended my visions of CM to a broader level, which as the author stated, it aims to enhance not only students academic learning, but their social and emotional growth as well(Weinstein & Mignano, 2003). What impressed me most in this chapter is the idea from Kounins workthe discipline responds to inappropriate behavior while the classroom management includes ways of creating a caring, respectful environment that supports learning. (Weinstein & Mignano, 2003). The keywords of CM for me now shifted from rules and behavior to environment and growth. Reference: 1)Weinstein, C. S., & Mignano, A.J. 2. The things that makes the students behave well

From students of five teachers perspective: The teacher is an authority figure that students need to obey. Students are given choices. The teacher care about and respect the students. The teacher gave interesting lessons. The teacher set the rules and sticks to them.

*Note: I found the most frequently used word by the students is nice, which implies every five teachers care about their students which earn their respects in return.

From five teachers aspect, I summarize some of the common and key points.

Show great caring and love. Know the students by heart and value their talents. Give students opportunity to express themselves. Maintain passion and give encouragement all the time. Create a cozy environment. Try to make the learning process as fun as possible.

In the first place, he didnt give clear instruction of where for the kids to sit. When the kids sat on the front, he just asked them to sit back here without showing or clarifying where exactly was here. Then he left the students with no tasks assigned to work on something else. Probably his computer or printing material is not ready for the kids. The kids start making noise and some of them even lay on the table. He asked the kids to sit quietly in the seats while he was still getting ready for the class. Later again, when students complained the boringness of waiting, he again asked the kids to be quiet. Until then, he has waited two minutes of precious instruction time. This video lesson vividly showed me the importance of getting things prepared for the class, not only the teaching materials and equipment, but also the physical environment. The teacher should have given clear instruction of the seating arrangement, such as giving each table a name and asking kids to sit by certain table. Also, he should have checked the equipment or get everything prepared before the kids came in. Instead, he just continuously obsessed by the preparation and yelled at the kids occasionally. Last, in my opinion, even something happens to the equipment or things not being able to get ready for class, teachers should always have backup plans. For instance, he could have provided the kid with some coloring pages and crayons. To sum up, preparing a lesson 3. What I learned from the video clip.
