One of his most memorable scenes in the story was when he confessed his sin while standing next to Hester and pearl on the scaffold in the market place. Throughout the story we saw Dimmesdales health deteriorate because he was keeping his secret locked up for so long while Hester had been punished for her sin. When he finally confessed, he stood up and shows everyone to see that like Hester he has a red symbol on his chest. He then falls on the scaffold and after a brief exchange of words he dies.
