REIKI II
The Reiki II attunement measurably increases the amount of healing energy, and the attunement focuses upon emotional, mental and karmic healing in the person who receives it. After the attunement, old emotions, unhealed former situations, past lives, and negative mental patterns resurface to be fully healed at last. This can take as long as six months to complete, and though not always comfortable the process is positive and necessary. Healing with Reiki II adds considerable power to direct sessions. It also adds the methods and tools for doing healing with someone not physically present - you can do this by applying distance healing. In Reiki II, three of the Reiki symbols are introduced and used consciously for the first time. With Reiki I, the symbols are already in the healer's aura and they emerge unconsciously through their hands when they heal. Reiki II begins directing their energies. It also offers preliminary information on channelling the energy required to pass attunements as a Reiki III.
EMPOWERMENTS
JAPANESE REIKI
Reiju is Usuis original way, a procedure that enables the recipient to channel Reiki. It is believed that it comes from Tendai Buddhism. This is where Hatsu Rei Ho and other Japanese Reiki techniques seem to have their roots in. In Japanese approach to Reiki practice, students would gather every single week and practice various Reiki techniques. At the end of the gathering, during meditation, Reiki Master would give Reiju to every student as a mean of initiating further progress on Reiki path. It is said that Reiju was also used to attune (to use western term) students into higher levels of Reiki channeling. In Japan language, Reiju means: accepting / giving energy. WHAT DOES REIJU DO? Reiju connects the student to Reiki source, strengthens this connection, and thus enables more deep and strong Reiki flow. It is student that has most important role in his development. Reiju enhances Reiki channel, but student must keep it open by practicing various Reiki techniques, i.e. Hatsu Rei Ho. Reiju helps the students progress in every aspect of his life, by enhancing energy level in students bodies. This is also achieved by daily Reiki practice. Giving (on Masters end) and receiving (on students end) Reiju empowerments every week or even daily, is very good opportunity to develop intuition and sensitivity to the energy, and above all, to enable one to make small but important steps towards Satori - Enlightenment. Reiju can be used for self-empowerment also. Just like our western attunement processes can. Self-Attunement: On daily basis, do a general attunement at first and then specific attunements latter on (each symbol to corresponding chakra).
Mudras
Mudras are known in Indian Spiritual practices and the Oriental martial arts as ways of developing and increasing our inner strength. Depending on your modality, this may be spiritual power, or it may be your ki. Reiki first introduced the practice of using mudras into Reiki - with the emphasis firmly on those, which derive from Japanese culture. They serve to help the Reiki practitioner strengthen their ki energy and to allow it to flow more freely, as well as speeding development of intuitive abilities. A cursory study of the subject will show you that there are dozens (if not hundreds) of known mudras, and to a large extent this is an area, which in Reiki terms is still ripe for exploration. The basic theory of mudras is that each finger corresponds with an element:
Thumb - corresponds with the Element of Ether Index Finger - corresponds with the Element of Air Middle Finger - corresponds with the Element of Fire Ring Finger - corresponds with the Element of Water Little Finger - Corresponds with the Element of Earth
THIS GIVES US FIVE BASIC MUDRA SHAPES: Thumb connected with the Index Finger
Probably the best known of the Buddhist meditation hand positions, this mudra helps us to connect our physical breathing with our energetic breathing. The hand should be held palms upwards during sunrise or daytime meditation, and palms downwards during evening or night-time meditation. What is certain is that during healing you can hold your left (or non-dominant) hand palm upwards to act as a collector for Reiki and your other hand palm downwards to focus the energy into your Healee.
#1 - SHA MUDRA
On Ha Ya Bai Shira Ma Ta Ya So Wa Ka Sha is believed to correspond with the Reiki symbol Dai Ko Myo. It was used to send distant healing - either from a few inches or from greater distances - before a session of close or hands-on healing when making this mudra, meditate on the Divine Reiki Source and on the cleansing Element of Fire. This Mudra is called Sha in Japanese. It is also used in Taoism, some Tibetan arts, and in Ninjutsu. Sha is used for Healing of Self and Others, and to develop and strengthen the inner channel. It was said that those that mastered the Inner connections using Sha would develop an inner power and would no longer succumb to viruses and other afflictions. In this mudra the index fingers and thumbs are extended while the other fingers are interlocked. Using Sha is an excellent mudra to use when meditating. When doing any Meditations you can use the Sha Mudra as you meditate. Additionally, it can be used when doing healings. Before you actually begin doing the healing, place the hands in Sha, connect to the Reiki energy, and focus on the compassion of the source and let the energy flow into the hands. Then separate the palms and begin healing. The extended fingers are used to gather up the energy that is within the body and to direct that energy, through the fingers, in a focused though to affect the healing of a particular are of the body. 6
#2 - RIN MUDRA
On Bai Shira Man To Ya So Was Ka Rin is held to correspond with Cho Ku Rei - it is used primarily to help the Healer connect with the Divine Reiki Source (hence the association with Cho Ku Rei) but also to achieve energetic and emotional balance. Using Rin before a Reiki session is felt to make the healing more powerful.
Position #2 is the fingers interlaced with the two middle fingers extended and tips touching.

Position #2 is the fingers interlaced with the two middle fingers extended and tips touching.
Note the position of the thumbs, which are crossed. This was used to increase the efficacy of the hands on healing session, and to promote balance. It was thought to help connect to the power and energy and allow it to flow more readily in the channels. This position is called RIN in other systems. Rin is to help connect to the power or energy of the universe (cosmic energy) and increase the power in the body. It is interesting that in Raku Kai that this position was chosen for this. It would seemingly be analogous to the intent of the Cho Ku Rei symbol in function.
On Bai Shira Man To Ya So Was Ka Use the Rin mudra when you need additional Power, Strength of Mind and Strength of Body. Use whenever you need physical, mental, and/or emotional strength.
Once you have formed the Kanji, raise your hands and arms high above your head, with your eyes closed and third fingers pointing upwards toward the heavens. Slowly lower your arms until your hands are in front of your heart center. As you do this you will experience the White Light coming down and into all of your bodies through your Crown Chakra.
Jin / Kai is believed to help you to connect with your Healee's subconscious mind - in this sense, it could be held to correspond with Sei Hei Ki or with Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen. Samurai warriors used it before they entered into combat to enable them to read and understand their opponent's thoughts. In Reiki terms, being able to communicate with your Healee's subconscious will enable you to focus the Reiki more appropriately to their needs. Interlace all your fingers together and press the palms together. This mudra is called Kai or Jin. Use this mudra to help clear your mind and to still your thoughts. When performed correctly, you will be able to sense all that surrounds you, including the ability to sense danger.

SCANNING METHOD This is the scanning method developed by Vince Amador for Karuna Ki Reiki. It incorporates a hand position or Mudra and uses the third eye to help develop the intuition to find areas that need treating.
KAI MUDRA
It is only when our minds are clear and we have stilled our thoughts that we can sense clearly all around us. Kai is an activation of the psychic sense, which allows us to see beyond sight. In this mudra the fingers are all interlocked. SCANNING TECHNIQUE: To use Kai in scanning first place your hands into the Kai mudra, close your eyes, relax for a moment and take several deep breaths. 2. Focus on the Ultimate Source of Compassion. 3. Breath in the energy into hands and then into the Dan Tien. Let it expand through the body. 4. Next, direct the energy into the hands. Do this by breathing in the energy into the Dan Tien and then exhale the energy out through the hands, radiating the compassionate energy outward around you. 5. When the hands are filled with the energy, bring the connected hands up to the level of the third eye and place the knuckles of the thumb against the third eye. Focus the energy on the third eye. 6. Continue to breath through the hands. 7. Visualize the (Zonar, then the Gnosa these are the Tera Mai and Karuna Reiki symbols) symbol, and then any other of the Reiki Symbols that you may intuit. 8. Allow any sensations to be "seen" or "felt". 9. You will feel the sensation of the third eye active. It will feel like a tingling in the center of the forehead or a pressure behind the forehead. 10. When you are ready, begin separate the hands and begin scanning with the palms as described above in the "hand scanning" section. 11. Continue to focus on the third eye area. Impressions are "seen" but not so much seen with the eyes as they are felt or experienced. 12. This method also helps develop the third eye area and intuition in all areas of your life, as well as to focus on the compassionate source. This helps us stay focused in compassion toward all. 1.

SHA MEDITATION
Created by - Vince Amador, the founder and originator of Karuna Ki Reiki. Consistent practice clears and focuses the mind and helps one to cultivate compassion toward all beings. Sha is used for healing self and others. Using this Mudra in the meditation below helps to increase within us health, vitality and healing strength. The following exercise can help to fully develop the use of Sha. To do this: 1. First place your hands in the Sha Mudra. This activity helps link the pathways within the body. By forming the Sha Mudra with the hands the appropriate pathways of energy are linked within the body. This brings health and knowing. The activity helps increase your inner strength, expands your channel, expand the mind and the ability to sense self and others and to remove fear. 2. Breathe in through the nose and out of the nose. Empty your mind by focusing only on the breathing. If that is difficult, count slowly to seven on the inhalation and to seven on the exhalation. If other thoughts arise, pay them no mind and let them slip away. 3. Focus within and on the flow of energy within the body and on the spirit. Deep within us burns a Fire, behind the hara and it is the area of Personal Chi. Deep within us burns a Fire, behind the hara and it is the area of Personal Chi. This meditation replenishes our personal chi with the compassionate loving energy of Reiki and strengthens us, reduces stress and anxiety, and increases our ability to channel the energy. 4. Focus on the Hara, or slightly behind it. Some people see or visualize this as see it as a ball of light, fire or heat. 5. Visualize the ball of fire deep within you, behind the Hara. 6. Connect to the Reiki energy. This activity is to focus on the fire and to make it burn brighter and warmer and to increase its radiance throughout the body. 7. As you breathe in the breath, the loving light energy (Use Reiki) comes in energy comes in through the crown (top of head). 8. See the energy move down to behind the Hara area and see it fill the area making the light there grow, and brighten. You will feel energized. 9. When you feel energized and filled, allow the energy to expand outwards and through your body spreading ever outward further and further to the top of the head, the tips of the toes and the tips of the fingers. See it spread through all the organs. 10. Focus on the Mudra, and hold it between the sternum and the hara. 11. Breath in through the hands and into the hara, and on the exhale from the hara out through the hands. 12. Do this for 10 minutes or so. 13. When done, focus the mind back on the Hara. Allow your consciousness to return to normal. Stand, and shake the hands three times, and then the feet three times. Once you master this breathing technique, you can do this activity any time by using the mudra and just concentrating on breathing and increasing the light. Done regularly it strengthens the body and mind, and increases the vitality of the body. Like with Reiki, you will notice that the hands will be very hot when doing this and after. This can be done with any of the other Kuji-in hand positions. 13

Symbols from - Dr. Chuujiro, who received them from Usui Sensei. In Japan, these symbols are found elsewhere in their culture and spiritual work; although they would not have the connection to the individual energies that we acquire when we invoke them. The symbols, especially the last 2 (Connection, Empowerment) are simply Japanese phrases, and would not be thought of as "symbols" to the average Japanese person. The symbols originate within Tendai Buddhism, a repository for much of ancient Japanese Buddhism. They are part of the Taoist teachings that along with Confucianism, Buddhism and other Chinese teachings and were brought into Japan in the 5th and 6th centuries. The symbols are still used in Chinese Taoism today in much the same spiritual learning format that Usui Sensei original taught them, although they each have a Chinese word, rather than Japanese. This was verified by senior Tai Chi masters of the Yang style in China. The symbols are not intended to be healing energies, but rather each is taught to represent an inner trait that could be awakened by the individual. Dr. Hayashi and Toshihiro Eguchi were the only 2 Shichidan (the highest level) students of Usui Sensei's original Usui Reiki system. The symbols were learned as part of Usui Reiki training but were not used in the forms as later taught by Dr. Hayashi (after 1931). It is thought that Eguchi and Hayashi may have been responsible for experimenting with these as healing tools. IN JAPAN In the original Reiki society, the symbols are rarely used as taught in the West since the level 2 student is expected to be able to feel the various energies by that stage of training. However, if after 10 years of practice, the student can still not perform the Reiki techniques they may be allowed to take deeper level training, and thus receive the additional energies. In this special case, in order to assist a Reikii student, some of the symbols may be used as a teaching aid, although of course, the 3rd and 4th are just the kanji writing for the Kotodama (chant).

REIKI KANJI
Reiki Kanji
The Reiki Kanji was created by Dr. Usui as the name of this energy healing therapy process. By the combination of the two pictographs he was able to emphasize the spiritual connection of the energy and the groundedness in earth. It exemplifies the balanced nature of Reiki healing on all levels, body, mind and spirit. Kanji are formed by specific strokes that put together in a unique way depict a story. The kanji characters Rei and Ki both have an old and a modern form. The old form Kanji (written by Usui and Takata Sensei's) best describes Reiho, rediscovered by Usui Sensei. The word Reiki with a capital R is the word, which describes the energy of this system. The old style kanji is the form that is currently used by the Radiance Technique and some independent Reiki Teachers.
19
The old form kanji as written on the precepts by Usui Sensei, best describes the system known as Reiho. It is easily explainable as follows:
Rei Strokes, 24. Consists of 3 parts. Top is rain, middle is things and bottom is Shaman. Rei means "spirit or spiritual". The Japanese dictionary defines Rei as: 1. Spirit; the spiritual aspect of the human being as contrasted to the physical. 2. Divine, numinous, charismatic, supernatural, mysterious. 3. The luminosity of the spirit; the luminosity of a God or Sage. 4. Inconceivable spiritual ability; charismatic power; charisma; wonderful; a wonder. 5. A rainmaker, a diviner; a person or being with spiritual or supernatural powers. 6. A shaman. 7. Goodness; good, excellent, efficacious. 8. Clever, nimble, sharp. 9. Life. 10. A living being; a human being. 11. A super-natural (mythical) beast or being; a fairy, an elf. 12. Pure, undefined, unpolluted. 13. Bright, clear.
ANOTHER EXPLANATION OF REI: Rei - meaning spirit, conveys spiritually guided consciousness and awareness of the ability to work within that greater wisdom. The Rei is comprised of three parts. It first starts at the top with a horizontal stroke that indicates heaven. Next is a vertical stroke that brings heaven down to earth. The next two horizontal strokes describe the clouds or veil between heaven and earth. There are four small strokes, two on either side of the long horizontal stroke depicting rain. The purpose of this initial part of the Rei is to describe wisdom that is initiated in heaven and is brought down to earth. The second part of the kanji is a series of three squares or boxes. These represent voices that are chanting or singing. The third or concluding part of the Rei begins with a horizontal stroke, again indicating heaven, and a second vertical stroke from heaven to earth. Two similar figures, one on either side of the vertical stroke represent dancing shaman or wizards. The final horizontal stoke completes the message in the earth. Manifestation is a three part energy process, starting with a thought, voicing the thought and finally putting action to the thought. The Rei kanji typifies manifestation of spiritually guided wisdom that is initiated as thought in heaven, spoken in words or prayer, and completes in action or hand movements.
20
Ki Strokes, 10. Consists of Breath with rice (Rice in Japan is sometimes used as a synonym for people). Ki means "energy". The Japanese dictionary defines Ki as: 1. Vital energy connected with the breath. Invisible life-force, somewhat equivalent to the Indian prana. 2. In the view of Zhuxi and other Neo-Confucians, the material force of the Universe. The generative forces of heaven and earth, by means of which all things are constantly reproduced. 3. Air. 4. Breath, steam.
.
ANOTHER EXPLANTION OF KI: Ki - meaning energy, the highest strength, the purest greatness and is that which permeates and transcends beyond the physical realm. The Ki is a common kanji found in eastern art and jewelry. It represents energy. The first three strokes on the top represent steam or vapor from a cooking pot. The next large sweeping stroke represents a cooking pot. The strokes under the pot represent fire and kernels of rice that are bursting open with steam, ready to be consumed as a source of energy for life.

Passing attunements
The system, then, contains the same trinity, which appears in all spiritual systems. The Body/Mind/Spirit trinity, which can be read many ways; (Ego / Subconscious / Superconscious, Self / Family / All, Father /Son / Holy-Ghost, etc). The fourth symbol is used to attune someone to the Reiki energy. The attunement process is similar to the Tibetan Buddhist empowerment practices, and is a ceremony by which one is attuned to and may access Reiki. In healings the practitioner, of level II or above, paints the symbols in the air with his/her hands. Sometimes the practitioner might draw the symbols on paper, with the intent that the symbol is for a specific person or purpose. Generally, the symbols are drawn near the person who is to receive healing. The form of the symbol is relatively unimportant, while it is the function and intent is greatly important.
_____________________________ 27
Traditionally the Reiki symbols have been kept secret and only shown to those attuned for Reiki Level II and higher. Keeping the symbols secret has been done to prevent misuse. This was also because Mrs. Takata insisted that the symbols were kept secret by the practitioners in Japan. Consider whether Reiki is only the symbols, the drawn pictures. Drawing the symbols creates a flow of energy (Chi) having different characteristics for each symbol, and that it's the flow of energy, which is important. Without the flow of energy, the symbols themselves are just pictures. What makes Reiki interesting is the source of energy from which Reiki springs, and the high degree of intelligence, wisdom and divinity behind that energy source. The Chi energy is not unique to Reiki, in fact Chi is in everything and around everything. There are many systems of Energy Healing, of which Reiki is only one, and it is quite easy for people to access and channel Chi without knowing Reiki.

The Symbols
It is not necessary to physically draw the symbols in order for the mind to align with the visual perception of the key. Mental visualization of the symbols is recommended, as is internal intonation of the symbol names. Ideally, the symbol is "seen" with the third eye, reflecting and connecting with the higher energies of Universal Life Force in the higher layers of the consciousness, as the vibrational frequency of the symbol names are "heard" or felt from the Heart and Throat Chakras, sending the thoughtvibration resonating "outward", into the upper spheres of the consciousness of the person seeking to be healed. As one becomes more comfortable working with the Reiki symbols, visualization and resonance will become automatic, just as in the case of learning to type, play a musical instrument, or any other practice that is repeated until impressed upon the subconscious intelligence. The four Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki symbols are calligraphic Japanese Kanji, or words, usually drawn with a brush. They are drawn in very precise, specific strokes, which express explicit meanings. Each stroke represents a part of the picture. The strokes of the symbols are drawn always left-to-right, top-to-bottom, and clockwise. The names of the symbols are spoken (either using the vocal chords in the throat chakra, or by sensing the pitch with intellectual audial vibration in the mind's ear...) with deliberate and precise intonation. "Speaking" the name of a symbol is akin to ringing a bell. The resonance of that specific vibrational frequency affects the vibrational quality of the entire environment; that combination of sound waves influence the individual on a different dimensional plane as the waves become a part of the vibrational reality of the healing process.

REIKI SYMBOLS
CHO KU REI Traditional Usui CHO KU REI: The first of the Usui symbols is commonly known as The Power Symbol. Pronounced in Japanese as Cho- Koo- Ray, it is learned in Reiki levels 1 & 2. It means, Put all the power of the Universe here. and is most often drawn by the practitioners dominant hand on each of his/her palms before sending treatment. Additionally, it is often drawn on the recipients Crown Chakra before a session thoroughly begins. It can be placed wherever the practitioner feels whether on him/herself or the recipient. Drawing it, imagining it or chanting it three times can invoke Cho Ku Rei.
"The light switch" that turns on the healing energy and increases its power.
The symbols are usually used only until the practitioner becomes familiar with the power behind the symbols. That is to say, you might visualise the Cho Ku Rei symbol until you become familiar enough with the energy and emphasis behind Cho Ku Rei, at which point you need no longer draw or visualise the symbol. You can also speak the symbol's name to call on its power. Drawing Cho Ku Reiki in the counter clockwise position "increases" the energy of Reiki. Drawing Cho Ku Rei in the clockwise position "decreases" the energy of the client.
32
33
WHEN DRAWING SYMBOL: 1. Using your power hand, draw the symbol over the area in need. Repeat the name of the symbol with each circular counter-clockwise movement. 2. There should be three full circles, so you need to repeat the name of the symbol three times. CLEANSE YOUR WORK SPACE: 1. Draw the symbol in the air with intent. 2. To clear and purify your treatment area, visually push it out into the corners of your room. MEANING: 1. The archetypal picture suggests a vortex of energy, spiralling upward through the seven energy centers of the body. The symbol is generally drawn from left to right, and clockwise, as the energy of the chakras is 2. thought to flow. It is relevant, when drawing this symbol, that the sign includes seven arcs. 3. Some Reiki Masters theorize that the symbol drawn clockwise represents a "pushing in" of 4. energy, while counter clockwise spiral is "pulling out". Others suggest that clockwise signifies ascending energy, or moving energy upward, and 5. counter-clockwise moves the energy downward.
34
Cho ku rei's origins are obscure. However, a meaning of the words choku rei is "to fix miraculously" (choku=to fix, rei=miracle), some people seem to be of the opinion that the actual symbol is of Shinto origin, and means something like 'In the presence of the spirits (kami)'. It has also been said that the choku rei is meant to represent a coiled snake with it's head raised, linking it to the Kundalini Serpent of Indian yogic tradition. According to some theories, the real forms of kami are actually snakes...

GASSHO TECHNIQUE:
The Japanese term gassho refers to a ritual gesture formed by placing the hands - palms together, in the prayer-position - in front of the mouth - the fingertips at a level just below the nose. (Many people also perform gassho with hands positioned in front of the chest at a level just above the heart.)
36
1. The Cho Ku Rei can be used to increase the power/flow of Reiki, or to assist in focussing Reiki more intensely at a given location, or to a specific intent. 2. The symbol can be used as an 'energy cleansing' / 'energy blessing' for food, drink, or possessions; and may be employed as a seal or amulet of protection. 3. Some practitioners use this Symbol to cleanse a room of negative atmospheres; or to 'seal' a treatment. 4. And while in 'western' forms of Reiki, the symbol may be used in conjunction with one or more of the other symbols, (with the intent of increase their potency) in 'Japanese' lineages, it is primarily utilised in a stand-alone sense.
37
Draw the Cho Ku Rei on all sides of your home for Cleansing, Protection and Upliftment.
Make sure that you draw this symbol at least 6 feet below your home. Draw it on the four walls of each room, on the ceiling, and floors. The Reiki Color Ray ranges from light violet to gold. By drawing this symbol throughout your home it changes the vibration and shifts the energy patterns of those in the home.

CHO-KU-REI 1. Increase of power, the 'light switch'. 2. Called the Connection symbol. 3. Used to illuminate or indicate the position or nature of a problem, it intensifies healing energy like a laser. 4. For sealing the Reiki power around the person or space being healed. 5. It stands for male-female energy as the horizontal line stands for "Shiva", and the spiral for "Shakti" or kundalini power. 6. Clearing a room/ vehicle/ train/ bus of negative energy along with white light. 7. Protecting. 8. Charging any other symbol. 9. Purifying food/water. 10. This symbol is drawn both clockwise and counter-clockwise; the former connects to heaven and the latter to earth or feminine energy. They can be used together to charge any other symbol. 11. You may draw this symbol over your head (crown chakra) to improve memory, clarity or to locate lost objects. 12. Draw the Cho Ku Reiki on your palms before placing them on a hand position in a healing session. 13. By simply visualizing it, your ability to do Reiki will be increased many times. You will probably use it in every healing. 14. Cho-Ku-Rei concentrates Reiki in one focused spot by calling all the energy of the Universe into the healing. 15. This energy calls in higher universal energy and accelerates Reiki from low to high and gives greater power and focus to the energy. 16. It is used with the other energies as well as by itself during all treatments hands-on or distance. 17. This energy has been used to clear rooms and crystals and to charge food and water.
41
The Cho-Ku-Rei is used in every healing. Drawn clockwise it is used to increase and focus power. Drawn counter-clockwise it is used to break up and dissipate problems. Clockwise it means/has been interpreted as "Put the power here." Counter-clockwise it means/has been interpreted as "God is here." A parallel could be drawn with the pentacle being used for both invoking and banishing. Can be used to charge and help program crystals. Can be used to manifest desires. Can be used for blessing. Magnifies and focuses energy. Referred to as the light switch or power symbol. To energize and activate other symbols. Similar to the command to execute a computer program. Some, however, believe this should be the first symbol you draw, in order to "prime the pump" so to speak. CHO KU REI Action Energizing Opens access to Reiki energy Energetic amplifier Spiritual protection
ENERGETIC PROTECTION By drawing the symbol around you, a clairvoyant can no longer read your energetic fields. Because of its shape, it focuses the divine energies in one place only. Reiki can be visualized as electricity. The light is switched on when you put your hands down to heal. When you add the Cho-Ku-Rei, the light is boosted from a 50-watt bulb to 500 watts. The Cho-Ku-Rei concentrates Reiki in one focused spot by calling all the energy of the Universe into the healing. In the archaeology of this planet, spirals always represent Goddess energy. The spiral shape is found in all natural phenomena, weather patterns, thunderstorms and hurricanes tornadoes are very intense spiral storms human DNA, and plants grow following a spiral Fibonacci series. In any metaphysical or energy work: Northern Hemisphere Clockwise is the direction of invoking and increasing. Counter clockwise is the direction of decrease and dispersion. Southern Hemisphere it is opposite. Counter Clockwise denotes increasing and invoking. Clockwise denotes< decreasing and dispersion. 1. Intent is most important here. Try it both ways and then make your choice. If you determine for yourself that one way increases power, keep using that method as increase is the intent of the symbol. Pick one way and use it consistently. 2. Double Cho-Ku-Rei, one drawn in each direction are used for manifesting. There is no more powerful aid to manifesting abundance than this symbol. 3. In using it be totally positive and ethical in what you ask for, and ask for only what you really want. The Universe is comprised of abundance with every goodness available to those who ask and are ready to receive.

#2 * SEI HE KI HARMONY
The Emotional Symbol
Sei He Ki
This strange symbol looks like a human head with two bumps on the places of the eighth chakra (the cosmic chakra where divinity connects with our physical existence and place of the soul akasha) and the tenth chakra (place of mystical talents and inner sight). Therefore alternative meanings of the Sei He Ki are 'Remember Your Self' and 'God and humanity becoming one'. Pointing your arrow to awareness means bringing your attention to your feelings, emotions, patterns and psychology in order to understand and heal them. Sei He Ki restores emotional balance and harmony. Please understand that many diseases and problems have their roots in negative emotions and false beliefs. This symbol is used for the healing of bad habits, addictions, emotional trauma and heavy feelings like anger, frustration or jealousy. That makes this symbol another good one against bad vibrations and negative entities. A good symbol for inner calmness and the release of blockages.

SEI HEKI
PURIFICATION AND PROTECTION
MIND SYMBOL - SEI-HE-KI - MIND CLEANSING OR MIND-ENERGY-TRANSFERENCE The Sei-He-Ki (say hay key) is designated for emotional healing. It is defined as "God and man coming together". or "Goddess and woman coming together" or better "Divinity and People coming together". Another definition, "As Above, So Below"
This symbol brings Divinity into the human energy pattern and aligns the upper chakras. Sei-He-Ki is analogous to the Sanskrit symbol "Aum" and the Arabic "Allah". I use them all when it suits me. The more healing work one does, the more apparent it becomes that virtually all physical level diseases have an emotional coordinate. Diseases and painful emotions go together and healing the disease also means healing the emotions that go with it. Human life is filled with emotional pain and traumas large and small, most of us are taught that expressing feelings is inappropriate. Instead of allowing ones self to feel pain and release it, the emotions are stuck inside. Where pain remains within and has no other release, it manifests as physical illness. By using Sei-He-Ki, the emotional aspect is addressed and is often the key to the healing. A painful emotion or trauma that has been held within is brought to the surface. The receiver reconnects with the pain long enough to finish it and let it go. With the emotions released, the physical disease often vanishes. Anger, fear, frustration, grief, and loneliness are more often the source of disease than any bacteria, virus, or organic malfunction. Sei-He-Ki has further uses. It can be invoked for protection and purification, to clear negative energy, to release spirit attachments and to guard a room against negative emotions, diseases or entities. Invoking Sei-He-Ki focuses Reiki energy on the emotional body and intensifies its effects. It helps the receiver to target the emotions specific to the healings, and to release them as quickly as possible. Some describe Sei-He-Ki as activating the Source within and define it as awakening and purifying the kundalini, re-patterning the brain and healing the mind-body connection thru the subconscious. 52
THE ELEMENT OF WATER: SEI-HE-KI For healing emotional upsets, or emotional disturbances. Symbolises the polarity of male/female or Man/God, or even Above/Below. This symbol aligns the upper chakras. Use of this symbol may bring out the origin of the emotional trauma to the surface mind of the patient, who may relive the emotional pain. Holding the symbol should enable the patient to release these feelings. Helps the patient to express pent-up feelings. This symbol is used at the beginning of treatment, and whenever it is needed. According to AJ Mackenzie Clay, this symbol awakens and purifies kundalini, repatterning the brain and healing the mind/body connection through the subconscious.
USING THE SEI HE KI SYMBOL (The Water Element) Water waves of cool energy. Brings up deep emotional issues for healing. If you wish to release a symptom, it is important to release the stress that created the symptom, by bringing to harmony the parts of your life that have not been working well. That means to identify the specific tensions creating the particular symptoms, as well as the tools intended to release these symptoms. When this is done, resolving the tensions in your consciousness about what was not working well in your life allows you to release the inner cause of the symptoms. It is then possible for your body and your consciousness to return to their natural state of balance, and for you to return to the way of being that works best for you. _____________________________

SEI HE KI
The Mental/Emotional symbol, Sei He Ki, has to do with Yin and Yang and the balance between the two sides of the brain. The left part of the symbol represents Yang and our left side of the brain (logic, structure and linear thinking etc.) The right side of the symbol represents Yin and our right side of the brain. (Fantasy, feelings, intuition etc.) When you are facing another person and draw the symbol, the left side of the symbol, i.e. the Yang part of the symbol ends up on the receiver's right side of the brain and the Yin part on the left side thereby helping to balance the two sides.

HON SHA ZE SHO NEN It is pronounced Hon Shar Zay Show Nen and it means: No past, no present, no future HISTORY: It is very difficult to establish exactly what Usui meant when he decided to use this symbol. There are so many different meanings of the Kanji that form the individual parts of the distant healing symbol, and different combinations of kanji mean different things. If you were to write down the Japanese kanji for Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen you would see a combination of symbols that is much longer than the one used in Reiki practice. This is because the kanji have been rammed together when the bottom part of one kanji is the same or similar to the top part of the kanji below it. This is not a mistake because a Shingon monk said that it is standard practice in Shingon Buddhism to jam characters together to produce a certain energetic effect. In secret Shintoism Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen means, man and God are one, though it is not known how it is written down. The Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen (3) allows us to connect and heal at the deepest level - the soul level. Linking with the soul enables us to transcend all time and space, so we can send Reiki to others, or ourselves, at any time - past, present or future. We cannot change the past but we can change how it affects us, enabling healing of past traumas - even past lives to heal the present.
58
This symbol transmits Reiki energy across time and space. Using this symbol you can send Reiki across the room, across town, to other parts of the country or anywhere in the world. Distance is no barrier. You can also use this symbol to bridge time. You can send Reiki into the "future," where it will store up like a battery, to access at the time you or others will need it. Likewise, you can send Reiki into the "past," to heal issues from earlier in this lifetime, or to past life issues that affect you or others now. The essential message of the symbol is "The Buddha in me greets the Buddha in you." (Another word for Buddha is "The Awakened Heart.") And so when you use this symbol you are saying "The Awakened Heart in me greets the Awakened Heart in You." And when that connection is declared and honored through your hearts, you and the recipient are in a state of Divine Union, and Reiki can be shared regardless of the physical distance between you. This symbol connects to the Akashic Records, the life records of each soul, and so it can be used to heal karmic patterns or tendencies that have manifested as dis-ease in the body or that have resulted in mental or emotional pain or distress.
To use:
Contract your Hui Yin and visualize Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen (3) whilst chanting its name to yourself three times, then (still contracting your Hui Yin) visualize Cho Ku Rei (1) whilst chanting its name to yourself three times. Imagine the energy spiraling down through the Cho Ku Rei and into the Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen flowing through into or to wherever and whomever you are healing. If healing any mental or emotional issues at a distance or in a past life add the Sei He Ki. Always ask that the energy goes to the Highest Good of all concerned especially as emotional issues usually involve other people and at a soul level what is presumed right in one lifetime or for one person may not be to the highest good overall.

SENDING IN TIME
You can also use this symbol to bridge time. You can send Reiki into the "future," where it will store up like a battery, to access at the time you or others will be needing it. HON-SHA-ZE-SHO-NEN helps you understand that time is just an illusion. You can time your healings or attunements by stating the time you intend the healing/attunement to be received. When sending in time, make sure to specify exactly when the person should receive the energy. It works well, but be sure you are very specific.
EXAMPLE: I intend to send healing to Joan Doe on January 23, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. central time (or- her time-works well). Be careful with using this method or you could send to the incorrect day or time or even year.
67
Likewise, you can send Reiki into the "past," to heal issues from earlier in this lifetime, or to past life issues that affect you or others now.
TECHNIQUE: 1. 2. 3. 4. Have photos (or write on a piece of paper the ages of yourself or others you wish to send healing to) of yourself from infancy to present time. Line them up in the order of age progression. Draw or visualize the CHO KU REI and the HON SHA ZE SHO NEN going up through each picture, creating a energy healing time line. Send Reiki Healing energy down through the time line of pictures. ________________________________________

CLEANSING BREATH
Kidney Breathing
During the attunement, it is necessary to direct the RAKU fire energy up the spine and into the brain to the pineal gland. This reenergizes the entire body and raises your spiritual consciousness. The first step in this process is KIDNEY BREATHING. a) To see if you are breathing properly, place the palm of your hands flat against your lower back over the kidneys. b) Direct your breath into the kidneys, expanding them. c) Your hands should rise with every inhalation and lie flat at the end of every exhalation. This type of breathing will increase your RAKU gradually if practiced every day. The second step is to locate the HUI YIN acupressure point (conception vessel 1) between your anus and genitals. a) Feel as if you are pulling this point up into your body as you contract it. b) The Reiki Master can hold this during the entire attunement, and with more experience and control can hold this during a class attunement. c) This step directs the RAKU fire energy up along the spinal column. d) Make sure that you are breathing normally when holding this point. e) Women may be familiar with the term Kagel Exercise when describing this movement. Combining the KIDNEY BREATH with the contraction of the HUI YIN point is the next step. a) First contract your Hui Yin and then take a Kidney Breath. b) As you are filling your lower abdomen with your breath, imagine a light mist forming at the base of your spine. c) The mist moves up the spine as if it were inside a hollow tube. d) This mist enters the head, filling the head. At this point, the white mist releases through the mouth making a hissing sound. To make this sound, the tongue is placed at the ridge behind your front teeth.

DISTANT HEALING
Distance is a three dimensional illusion. Remote healing may be done anywhere. The distance from you can range from just off the body to all the way to the other side of the earth. It is easy to understand this principle. Just picture the telephone, TV and microwave transmissions. For someone that has never seen TV or a telephone, our "reality" is magical to them. Something that travels through the air or through solid wire! Our senses at first tell us this cannot be; yet it is. It challenges everything they were taught and knew yet, once learned, the concept and use of it become second nature. Remote healing uses many frequencies of energy. Everything is energy in one form or another. The building blocks of what we call reality are atoms and various particles that make them up and are free moving. All are defined by science by their energy characteristics and potentials. When it comes down to it, all healing is "Energy Healing" because everything is energy, even drugs. How does healing occur? All healing is a rebalancing of the body's cells and systems regaining their proper functions along with other energies properly balanced and flowing. Paracelsus summed it up nicely hundreds of years ago. "The job of the Physician is to humour the patient while the body heals itself." It will be the same forever. What assists the body? Certainly humour, Love and your beliefs! Your beliefs can also make you sick and resist the normal healing processes of the body. Distant healers provide healing energy; they send that energy to assist you in healing yourself. Healing is a choice on which action is taken; not healing is also a choice. There are many different energy modalities available, each using a part of the total energies in their own way. Each has its own advantages and limitations. Learn about them and choose what you feel is the best for you either here or elsewhere. We hope that this site helps you do this.
DISTANT HEALING 77
DISTANT HEALING In its simplest form, Distant Healing can be a prayer that healing will be sent to the person who needs help at any specific time. Healers send their Distant Healing 'unconditionally', knowing that the healing energies will be directed where they are needed and in a way which is right for the recipient. That means the healer honours the fact that each person is more than the physical body - that they are spirit. It is the spirit or, Higher Self, which will dictate the healing energies and all will operate under Divine Law and not from a personal desire to see that someone is cured of a particular condition. The healer, acting as a conduit for Distant Healing, also recognises and honour's the soul's evolutionary journey and that the reason for a dis-ease may be for a much more profound reason than they are allowed to know. Distant Healing can be a particularly helpful way for sending healing if the person/s live a long way away; it can also be sent to people in hospitals, hospices, prisons and other institutions. Children, and animals, as well as the planet can benefit from this non-invasive method of healing.
79
The Emotional Field is where we experience feelings. It extends about 1 to 3 inches beyond the physical body.
The Mental Field is associated with thoughts and mental processes. It can be sensed 3 to 8 inches from the body. The Spiritual Field is made up of four or more layers, which help us relate to our higher self and spiritual dimensions. It is activated when we meditate, pray or channel. It extends 6" to 2' beyond our physical body. These energy fields are also referred to as our four levels of being; or our physical, mental, emotional spiritual selves.
80
HERE ARE SOME WAYS TO ENHANCE A DISTANT REIKI SESSION USING THE ENERGY FIELDS OR FOUR LEVELS OF BEING.
1. First, empower your hands and chakras with the Usui power symbol.
81
3. Then invoke or visualize the distant healing symbol and say its name three times.
Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen
4. Visualize the person you will be sending Reiki to. Intend to send Reiki to each level of being for 10-20 minutes.
5. To send Reiki to their physical level of being, imagine that the Reiki enters their crown chakra. Then it goes inside their body and slowly and gently fills them up.
82
6. As they become filled with Reiki energy, all of their body organs and parts are bathed in Reiki. Then the energy begins to radiate out from their physical body. Imagine that they are glowing with healing energy. See them expanded and their first energy layer filled. 7. Then send Reiki to their emotional being. Imagine that they are filled with peace, joy, love, contentment and overall well being. 8. Imagine that the glow from their physical body now extends out into their emotional level. 9. Next, send Reiki to their mental being. Intend that their thoughts are clear and calm. Imagine that their brain is working so that thoughts flow easily, and are well thought out. 10. Imagine that solutions to perplexing problems come easily. Imagine that worry gently flows out of their body. As all these troubling thoughts leave their body, Reiki fills up and extends out into their mental level. 11. Then send Reiki to their spiritual being. 12. Imagine that Reiki comes in and fills up and restores their spirit.their essencetheir soul. Imagine it as a beautiful golden flow of energy that is a direct link to the higher realms. 13. Imagine that guidance flows in and that they are directly connected to the source, whatever they believe that to be.
14. Intend that the Reiki energy reconnects them to the divine within them and reignites their flame. See them filled with spiritual energy that extends out beyond all the other levels of their being. 15. You can also do this by having a conversation with the person before you send Reiki. You can address each level of being by asking questions before the session. For the physical body you can ask them how they are feeling? Are they having any discomfort or pain? 16. For the emotional body, you can ask how they are feeling emotionally. Is there something that is making them feel happy or something that is making them feel sad? 17. Then ask if they have too much on their mind (mental level) or are worried about something? Does their head feel like it is ready to explode? 18. To address the spiritual level, ask how their spirit feels? Do they experience the sacredness of everyday life or is everyday just another day? Do they feel alone and unprotected in the world? 83
19. Before you are ready to begin sending Reiki, ask them to allow the Reiki energy to heal and address all of their levels of being. Ask them to allow themselves to receive this healing energy.
20. Then send Reiki for 10-20 minutes to each level of being and intend that the Reiki go to the issues, thoughts, or feelings that you discussed.
84
21. After the session is finished, let them rest. Visualize a power symbol over them and seal the session with light and love. 22. Do dry bathing (Kenyoku) to disconnect from their energy field. KENYOKU (DRY BATHING OR BRUSHING OFF) (Removing of stagnant energy.) Note - The brushing of the arms from shoulder to hand is an addition by H. Doi, it was originally just brushing the wrist to tips of fingers. (An interpretation from Japanese - Kenyoku - Imagine sacred bathing before you meet god, which is done by Shinto priests at some ceremonies to clear/purify body and spirit.) Brush either in the aura or with bodily contact. 1. Place the fingers of your right hand near the top of the left shoulder, with the fingertips over the indentation just in from the edge of the shoulder (where the collar bone meets the shoulder). The hand is lying flat. 2. Draw the flat hand down across the chest in a straight line, over the "V" of the sternum (where the rib cage meets) down to the right hip. 3. Repeat this procedure on the right side, using the left hand. Draw it flattened from the shoulder, in a straight line, across the sternum, to the left hip. 4. Repeat the procedure again on the left side. 5. Place the right hand on the edge of the left shoulder top of arm, fingertips on the edge pointing outwards. 6. Draw the right hand, flattened, down the outside of the arm, all the way to the finger tips, all the while keeping the left arm straight and at your side. 7. Repeat this process on the right side, with the left hand on the shoulder and drawing it down the right arm to the fingertips. 8. Repeat the process on the left side again.
85
24. You can call them afterwards to see what they experienced and share what you sensed. 25.Then end with gratitude for the gift of Reiki.

REIKI CRYSTAL BATHS This is a technique that combines the healing energy of Reiki with the energy of crystal healing. 1. Before starting a Reiki Crystal Bath, have your crystals cleared and ready near your Reiki table. You can use as little as few or as many stones as you want. This a guideline for a layout with a minimum of 7 quartz crystal points, plus one appropriate stone for each chakra up to as many as several pounds of quartz crystals and multiple stones for each chakra. It is not important that the crystals and stones be particularly pretty specimens, however natural quartz crystals seem to give the most energy. 2. With the client laying on the Reiki table as for any Reiki treatment, begin to place stones on the table, nestled up to the client's body. The first figure here shows areas that you can start the layout with, and are the ones you would use with a smaller quantity of quartz crystals. Be sure to point the crystals towards the client's body.
3. Next, place the chakra stones directly on the body of the client, being careful not to touch private parts.
96
4. Then, if you have more crystals and stones, you can fill in any gaps with crystals nestled around the body and/or on the body around the chakra stones. Remember to make sure the crystals point towards the body.
5. You may also ask the client to hold a quartz crystal or stone associated with a chakra they have particular issues with.
6. Once the crystals and stones are placed, proceed with the Reiki treatment as usual. 7. You may place your hands directly on the stones for magnification of energy or hold your hands
slightly above the stones during the treatment.
97
6. Use a teddy bear or doll as a proxy or put a pillow on your lap to represent the recipient. Know that the healing will reach your intended recipient automatically.
Distance Reiki can be used for individual treatments, situations, groups of individuals, notions, in fact anything that will benefit from loving thoughts.

9. You can visualize the person as though they are right in front of you and just do a treatment or imagine that you are in the same place together.
10. Another technique is to substitute your body for theirs doing the treatment
on your own body and intending that the energies run to them in those places.
103
11.You can also do a spot treatment on an organ or other body part, just visualize the part and go for it.

THUMB TECHNIQUE Another technique that is used is the 'thumb method'. 1. If you do not have the use of both hands to send absentee treatments, then you can empower the thumb of your non-dominate hand to represent a person, situation or relationship (this is a good one for job interviews, tense situations, angry people, dis-eased/dying, etc.). 2. Wrap the remaining fingers of your non-dominate hand around your thumb and as you do Reiki on your thumb, you are doing Reiki on the person, situation, or relationship.

Then we place a candle on the list, light it, and empower the flame to represent the list, then repeat the symbols, and intend (mentally or verbally) that as long as the flame burns, the list and everyone that it represents receives an individual, complete and continuous Reiki treatment. 4. As you pass the flame, you can add extra energy by drawing extra Power symbols onto the flame. _____________________________________
Shrink the person (client) into a smaller size and place them in between your hands. Then give them a reiki treatment.
DISTANT HEALING 1. Raise your hands up in front of you, at the level of your heart, with your palms facing each other and a small space in between. 2. Imagine the earth in this space. Name the whole earth or the part of the earth to which you want to send healing. 3. Offer Reiki, acknowledging free will and higher purpose. 4. Make the Reiki symbols for distant healing in the sequence 1-3-1, 1-2-3-1, or 1-3-2-1, in accord with the way you have been taught. Then return the hand with which you drew the symbols to its original position. 5. Listen to the Reiki energy as it flows between your hands, sending healing. 6. When you feel the flow of energy begin to diminish, bring the treatment to a close with an expression of thanks or a blessing, then break the connection by blowing into the space between your hands, clapping, rubbing your hands together, or bringing them together as if in prayer.
Compared to some traditionally taught distant healing methods, this method is very efficient, taking only a few minutes; so it is easy to incorporate into daily Reiki practice -- and, as with all Reiki, there are healing benefits for the practitioner as well.
106
BEAMING TECHNIQUE
There are two different beaming techniques. They are beaming distantly and in person beaming to someone in your location (i.e., you can see them). 1. To do distant beaming, draw all three symbols in the air. 2. State the name of the person you wish to heal, and any other details about them that you need to feel connected. 3. Intend that the person will receive Reiki as you send. 4. Hold one or both hands at chest height, palms facing outward from you. ( If you use only one hand, place the other comfortably in your lap.) 5. Then simply send the Reiki. You will feel it pour through your hands. As you send they will be receiving reiki healing. ____________________________
BEAMING:
In-person beaming is distant reiki but done when you are with the person. It is something you can do when you want to send reiki to someone in the line of sight. This is useful for people with touch issues, or for people who it would be inappropriate to touch like burn victims or those with infectious diseases. 1. To do beaming, extend the palms toward the person and use the symbol/word for distant healing. 2. The difference between this and distant healing is you can see the person. (It can be noted that all Johrei Channels use beaming to send Johrei.) 3. You can also beam from the body, projecting out from every cell. You can also beam from the eyes, or anywhere else you care to.

GUIDELINES
Because the energy increases exponentially, limit the stack to ten people or less, including yourself. Make sure the people in the stack are aware that you will be sending energy to them. Stacks produce results in one-way or another, sometimes more powerfully than you might think or want. I once put a student in a stack without telling him, and he received the energy while driving a car. His hands became so hot that he could not hold the steering wheel and had to pull off the road for a while. Later, when he told me what happened, I realized that he could have had a wreck! The issue of free will is also important when deciding to send energy to others. If in your best judgment the person is in need of healing energy but is very ill or otherwise incapacitated, then state the intention that they are free to either accept OR reject the energy. Also, specify that if the energy is rejected, it must return to you or go to heal the earth or to someone who wishes to receive it. Place inanimate objects in a stack after the initial ten people, not before. Some ideas for inanimate objects are the Earth, your car, your house, your relationship, your life as an entity, your healing space, your crystal grid to charge it, a habit you want to get rid of, or a change in your behavior that you want to empower, your Guides, your city, world peace, or a war or other catastrophe.
108
PROCEDURE
1. Make a list of who or what you want to send Reiki to. 2. Choose a proxy to represent the people and things on your list. This can be the top of your leg, a teddy bear, a crystal, or the list written on a piece of paper. 3. Empower the proxy by drawing all of the Reiki symbols you have been attuned to on it. For example, I use all six symbols of the Usui/Tibetan lineage. You can also draw all of the symbols on the palms of your hands. 4. With the intent to do a Reiki Distant Healing Stack, draw the Distance Symbol on the proxy. As you draw it, say its name three times. Then empower it by drawing a Power Symbol, and say its name three times. 5. Then state aloud or silently: "I now intend to do a Reiki Distant Healing Stack. Everyone in this stack is free to either accept or reject this energy. If it is rejected, I ask that the energy come back to me." 6. Start creating the stack by stating, "I would now like to send pure Reiki energy to ____________ for their greatest and highest good." Fill in the first persons name along with any additional facts you have (such as where they live) in the blank. 7. Draw a Power Symbol over the proxy with that person in mind. 8. Continue to add the rest of the people one by one along with the affirmation, and draw a Power Symbol for each one. 9. When you have finished adding people, you can begin adding the inanimate objects. 10. When you are finished building the stack, draw a Mental/Emotional Symbol and empower it by drawing the Power Symbol with the intent that the energy be available for all people and items in the stack that need it. 11. If you are attuned to other forms of Reiki, such as Karuna Reiki, you can add those symbols now and use one Power Symbol to empower all of them at the end. 12. Finish off the stack by sealing it with a very large Power Symbol and press it all down. 13. Break the connection with the proxy when you are finished by making a cutting motion with your hands to symbolically cut the energetic cords between you and the proxy. Then wash your hands in cold water. __________________________________
SAVING A STACK
While drawing the last finishing Power Symbol state, "I now intend that this stack be referred to as ____________." This is especially useful for groups like your family, friends, regular clients, or students. You can use a saved stack in place of a person in a normal stack. Just state you want to send energy to the __________ stack and draw a Power Symbol to empower it.
109
CHANGING A STACK
Start by sending some energy to the existing stack. Then when you are finished state, "I now wish to dissipate the ___________ stack." Then just remake it with the additions or subtractions. ________________________________________
SUPER STACKS
You can also make a stack of stacks and then name it as well.
Keep the stack to 10 or less people, including yourself. Make sure the people in the stack are aware of what you're doing. Stacks will produce results in one way or another. Sometimes more powerfully, than you may think or intend. You may put inanimate things in a stack after the initial 10 people, but please don't put them before. Some ideas for inanimate things.

SYMBOLS
112
113
ZONAR SYMBOL
ZONAR
This symbol is pronounced "zoe nar". It was channelled by Marcy Miller and purportedly given to Marcy from Sai Baba during a meditation. To draw the symbol: 1. Draw a Z, then come up on the right side and draw the infinity symbol 3 times This symbol is thought to work with past lives. The theory being that the cells carry the memory of trauma, and ideas from both this life and previous lives. This symbols is thought to help us work through these issues and release them and the associated memories and behaviour. Because of this it is thought to work well with child abuse. It is also to help with things or formulate issues not clearly defined, and allow us to open ourselves to the awareness of these issues and our humanity. Lastly it is used for dimensional access. The specific technique for using Zonar is to connect to the loving compassionate energy of the divine source, which is infinite, and use this infinite love for healing. 114
Zonar is a good symbol to use at the beginning of a treatment as it prepares the client to receive deep healing. It also reduces or eliminates the pain associated with emotional healing by creating a kind of spiritual anaesthetic effect. HEALS ON THE CELLULAR LEVEL 1. Sometimes we have experiences that are so powerful and have lasted so long that they actually become a part of our chemical makeup and are ingrained in our cells. Because of this, our cells can carry the memory of trauma, or even negative feelings and ideas that we brought with us from other lives. 2. Zonar works on the hidden issues that have become imbedded in the cells of our bodies and helps to heal them. 3. Zonar can be combined with the Usui distant symbols to send powerful healing energy HEALS PAST LIFE ISSUES 1. Zonar helps heal issues we have brought into this life from past lives. 2. It also works inter-dimensionally with experiences we have had on other planets or in-between lives. 3. To heal a past life issue, combine Zonar with the Usui distant symbol directing the energy to go into the past life and heal the cause. HEALS CHILD ABUSE 1. Zonar works well to heal trauma resulting from child abuse and other issues that were so traumatic that the person has been unable to deal with them consciously and has buried, or stored the issues away from the conscious mind, often in the second chakra area. 2. These are often things that are so overwhelming or unaccepted by our society that we are unable to talk with anyone about them. 3. Zonar helps work on these deep issues, release and heal them. 4. Sometimes they come to the conscious mind, and sometimes they are directly released without consciously knowing about them. ACCESSES ARCHANGEL GABRIEL Zonar can be invoked with the conscious intent to call upon Archangel Gabriel for assistance. This technique helps us with karmic healing, and Archangel Gabriel can assist us in finding answers we need to most help ourselves or others. 1. To do this, think of the issue and connect with the energy and feelings around it. 2. Then activate Zonar and send this energy up to Archangel Gabriel. Ask Gabriel to take the karma of the issue and heal it for you. 3. Ask also that if there is a lesson or understanding that is necessary for you to have in order for the healing to take place that it be made known to you. 4. Be open and willing to follow any guidance that comes to you. 5. The healing may continue after you stop sending healing energy, and ideas and memories may come welling up within your mind giving you the understanding you need. Zonar seems to have a psychically anaesthetic effect, which helps us go deeper into ourselves, reaching into our emotions at a core level and preparing us to heal more deeply. Zonar prepares the client for the healing offered by Halu.
115
HALU SYMBOL
HALU - Halu means love, truth, and beauty. It can also mean harmony.
This symbol is pronounced "hay-lou" and It was channelled by Kathleen and Marcy and was given purportedly by Sai baba during a meditation. It is supposed to be a deeper ray of healing. This symbol is an amplification of Zonar. To draw this: Draw a standard Zonar, then add the two lines into the center and complete the pyramid on top. 116
Halu is thought to be more powerful than Zonar and works in higher dimensions and at deeper levels. Halu is said to restore balance. It is thought to bring about "deep healing" at causal and emotional levels. Like the Usui Reiki symbol, Sei Hei Ki, it is supposed to help dissolve negative patterns in the unconscious mind that we use to keep ourselves from truth, and also to break up delusion and denial. It is also used to open a channel to higher consciousness. It can be used to repel and dispel psychic attack and psychological attacks. DISPELLING HEAVY ENERGY To use Halu for this purpose: 1. Draw the symbol in the air and connect at your heart center to the divine compassion. 2. Infuse and surround yourself with the symbol and this energy. 3. Know and intent that no psychic or psychological attacks can harm you in the oneness of this love. 4. Raise your hands and send this loving energy to those that might be attacking. 5. When you change your energy you change your environment around you change your focus and become responsible for what you send out vibrationally. Educate yourself on the Law of Attraction. HEALS UNCONSCIOUS PATTERNS 1. Use Halu to break up negative patterns in the unconscious mind, which we use to insulate ourselves from the truth. 2. This helps to shatter delusion and denial, while helping heal the shadow self. 3. Halu helps us work through denial and blame of others for situations in our lives. 4. Halu helps us accept the imperfect part of ourselves so we can bring it into our conscious mind love it and heal it. HEALS THE SHADOW SELF 1. The shadow self exists in the unconscious mind. It is composed of the parts of ourselves that we believe are unacceptable, and so we try to hide them (denial) by shoving them down into the unconscious mind. We will often see these unwanted parts in others (projection) and dislike them for it. (These unwanted parts often go into the second chakra.) Halu can be directed to work on and heal the Shadow Self. 1. This can be done by having the client focus on an unwanted experience or a behaviour that has been difficult to heal. 2. As they do this, ask them if any parts of their body feel tense or if there is an area within the body that they feel the cause of this problem is located. 3. Sometime this is in the second chakra. 4. Activate Halu and direct it into the area.
HALU Review. Zonar doubled in intensity. Heals delusion, denial, and the unconscious. Halu breaks negative thought patterns and repels psychic attack.
117
HEALS SEXUAL AND PHYSICAL ABUSE ISSUES Trauma such as physical and sexual abuse is very painful. It is not always necessary to relive these experiences and re-experience the trauma in order to heal. 1. The compassionate action of Halu (when used with Zonar) helps us release the energy from the abuse or pain without needing to re-experience the trauma. 2. These issues can often be processed by simply having an understanding of what took place, without a need to feel all the emotions and pain. 3. However, since the higher power is guiding the healing process, it will decide if feeling the pain is necessary to complete the healing and allow this to happen when it is appropriate for the client. 4. When this happens, it usually takes place with only a small part of the pain coming into consciousness, just enough for the person to understand the feelings that are being healed. DISPELS PSYCHIC AND PSYCHOLOGICAL ATTACK The only reason we are psychically attacked is because we are creating it. 1. Halu can help us release the part of ourselves that is creating the psychic attack, heal it and release it to the Higher Power. 2. Often, as we come into our own power, we may not be confident because we have misused power in the past. This may cause us to be attacked by ourselves or by others who feel threatened by our increased power. 3. Halu can be used to help us deal wisely and compassionately with our own power and to release any part of ourselves that attracts psychic attack. Remember that the best way to deal with psychic attack is to accept that we have created this experience for ourselves from within ourselves as a way to know ourselves more completely and to heal. 1. Focus on what you or the client is doing to create/attract the psychic attack and send Halu Reiki energy to it to heal and release it. 2. Follow your inner guidance when doing this and allow yourself to learn as you heal. 3. Halu will guide you to become a better healer. HALU IS A POWERFUL HEALING TOOL. 1. Halu can activate a laser-like beam of healing light, which can be focused on a less than light area and facilitate intense healing. 2. It is helpful with physical healing of tumours and cysts and many other imbalances. 3. When used with the psychic surgery technique it takes on the energy of a spiritual surgery tool, which has the ability to break through even the densest concentrations of less than light energies. 4. Halu goes to an area that contains less than light energy and fills it with a very focused, concentrated beam of light, which dissipates the denser energy. After you have used Zonar and Halu to prepare the person for healing and to do deep healing work, you will now be ready to fill the area with love by using Harth.
118
HARTH SYMBOL
HOW TO DRAW: Draw the cross with the first line going down. Then draw the left and right sides and then the circles. HELPS HEAL RELATIONSHIPS Harth can be used to heal relationships of all kinds. 1. When two people are involved in a relationship, there is a third entity that exists - the relationship itself. 2. If there is difficulty in the relationship, or if you simply want to improve your relationship, use Harth along with the Usui distance symbol to send Harth to the relationship. This will create a loving and compassionate feeling between the two people so they will more easily solve any problems that may have come up and will enjoy each others company much more. 3. Harth can improve a relationship that is already good! However, some relationships are codependent and not healthy for those involved. If this is the case, and it is time for the relationship to end, then Harth will help it end in a healthy way. 4. Because Reiki is guided by the higher power, you will not be able to use Harth to get someone to enter into a romantic relationship with you against their will. 5. It cannot be used to control people, only to empower them to come from love and to make wise decisions for themselves. DEVELOPS GOOD HABITS If you want to develop a good habit, the best way to do this is to allow yourself to love what you want to do. When you look at all the habits that are healthy for a person to have, you will always be able to find some group or someone who loves that activity. There are people who love to cook and eat healthy food, or who love to exercise, or who love to meditate, or who love their work or love a balanced life. Sometimes we have trauma around things that are healthy for us. 1. Harth can help us heal the trauma so we develop a natural love of things that are healthy for us to do. If there is a habit you would like to create for yourself, write it on a piece of paper, put it between your hands and send Harth to it. Do this everyday, and also spend time doing the thing you want to develop a habit for. You will find it easier and easier to be involved with the new activity, and soon you will love to do it. Try this, it works! HEALS ADDICTIONS If a person is addicted to something, it usually means that they have a problem with their heart. A person will turn to drugs, alcohol, or destructive relationships and behaviours because there is something in their life that isn't fulfilling the love that they need. 1. Harth will restore the balance within their heart so that they love life. When a person loves life it is very unlikely that they are going to become addicted to something that is harmful. If you love yourself, you will take good care of yourself. 2. Use the Usui distance symbol to send Harth to the addiction. DEVELOPS COMPASSIONATE ACTION Compassionate action is the most essential part of spiritual life. It is the key to both personal happiness and planetary healing. 1. Harth can help develop the motivation for compassionate action by healing the heart. The wisdom that comes from the heart becomes available to guide us in all our actions. 2. Harth helps us heal within ourselves so we can openly love others unconditionally. A wonderful revelation that comes to all who practice compassionate action is that it is not a sacrifice to do so, but a joy and a blessing.
120
CONTACT SPIRITUAL BEINGS Harth can be used to receive blessings from spiritual beings, such as Mother Mary, Kuan Yin, and Avalokiteshvara, who are the embodiment of compassionate action. 1. Use the Usui distance symbol and send Harth to these spiritual beings. 2. Ask for their blessing so your heart will be healed and you will be better able to help others. 3. You will discover that love is the greatest power. "The Original Reiki Ideals" state that Reiki is "The secret art of inviting happiness," and Harth is a symbol that can do just that. 1. So use Harth frequently to create love in your heart for yourself, other people, or for anything in life worth doing, having or being. After you have used Zonar, Halu, and Harth and are ready to complete the treatment, you can go on to Rama.
121
RAMA - Rama translated means abiding joy and is interchangeable with Ram or God.
This symbol is pronounced "ra ma". It was channelled by Kellie-ray Marine. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Rama grounds to the six directions, connects with earth energy. It opens, connects and balances lower chakras to the earth Harmonizes the upper chakras with the lower. Rama clears lower chakra energy. It can help to get a person out of lower chakra issues (survival, lack, over indulgence or lack of desire for sex, power struggles, etc.) Rama can be used to clear crystals and to clear a room of negative energy. It empowers material goals and helps to manifest them. Rama creates steadfastness and determination.
If you initiate the feet with Rama and the power symbol, it will open the feet chakras, and connect with the earth energy bringing balance and increasing the amount of Ki energy channelled. 122
HEALS LOWER CHAKRAS The use of Rama opens and heals the lower chakras, helping a person be more fully present, alert and focused. Often in healing work we encounter people who have a large portion of their energy outside their bodies. 1. By using Rama on the clients feet, the feet chakras are opened and this will pull the person back into their body. 2. This technique also pulls negative energy or blockages from anywhere in the persons energy system out the feet and can often release pain. 3. It is great for grounding. CLEARS THE MIND 1. If you (or your client) are feeling out of sorts, confused, dizzy, or feel your mind is congested, use Rama on yourself to clear your mind. 2. One way is to image Rama on the soles of your feet. This will open the foot chakras, allowing soothing earth energy to flow into your system at the same time that all confusing energies that may have accumulated in your aura are channelled into the earth to be recycled. This is very refreshing and is great to use at the end of the workday or anytime you feel the need for a break. CLEARS A ROOM OF NEGATIVE ENERGIES 1. You can prepare/clear your healing space or any other room by imaging Rama in the center of the room and the four corners of the ceiling and floor. 2. This will ground the room and allow any negative energies that may have accumulated to flow away at the same time positive energies from above fill the room. 3. Another way you can do this is to draw Rama in the center of the room visualizing it filling the whole room. 4. As you do this, focus your intent on clearing the space of any less than light energies, and replacing them with the purest spiritual love. 5. This is great to do at meetings or discussion groups where ideas are being exchanged, as it brings clarity and decisiveness. HARMONIZES UPPER CHAKRAS WITH LOWER CHAKRAS 1. As Rama clears the lower chakras, it allows the higher consciousness of the upper chakras to manifest in the physical world. 2. Rama also helps us release fear of success and fear of failure. It empowers us to actualize our spiritual purpose here on earth and to make use of Divine guidance in our everyday lives. CREATES DETERMINATION AND COMPLETION 1. This characteristic of Rama is what helps us to move beyond simply feeling compassion for something or someone, to being able to take determined action on that compassion. 2. Rama helps us take the first step toward our goal, and assists us in remaining focused throughout the entire process so we can complete the things we start.
123
MANIFESTS MATERIAL GOALS 1. The process of manifestation involves being able to connect with universal creative consciousness through our spiritual body, then understand it as thoughts in the mental body, become excited about it in our emotional bodies and take action on it with our physical bodies. 2. Harmony between the upper and lower chakras is important if we are to have a meaningful effect on the world. 3. Rama acts like a healing magnet, harmonizing the upper with the lower chakras and pulling the creativity of higher consciousness through our whole system so that we can manifest it in our physical world. Archangel Michael's presence and that of other enlightened beings can often be felt when utilizing Rama to manifest goals that will help others. COMPLETES A SESSION 1. During a healing session, a person often leaves their body so that the guides can work more easily on the energy system to facilitate healing. 2. Also, while out of the body, a person often receives new insights and guidance about their situation, but this does not always come into consciousness. 3. Rama can be used at the end of a session to bring the client back into their body, grounding them to the earth and allowing any insights received to come into consciousness so they can take action on them.
124
KRIYA SYMBOL
This double Cho Ku Rei is used for physical manifestation and for healing the human race. GROUNDING To use Kriya for grounding, visualize each side of the symbol going down each leg. 1. Place the upper part in your hips with the spirals in your feet. 2. This will create a strong connection to the earth and bring your consciousness more fully into your body. 3. This will also help guide your path through life in a very practical way. MANIFESTS GOALS Kriya can be used to manifest goals. 1. One way to work with Kriya to manifest goals is to write your goal on a piece of paper in the form of an affirmation. For example, if you would like to have a Reiki practice where you see 20 people a week, you would create an affirmation like: "I have 20 Reiki clients every week." 2. Then draw Kriya on the paper and hold it between your hands and do Kriya Reiki on it everyday. 3. At the same time, you must be working to create your goal by creating a plan and acting on it. 4. If your goal is for your highest good, you will find valuable "coincidences" occurring that help you manifest your goal. 5. Kriya Reiki will reach out to all the people and resources needed to help you create your goal and make it a joy to manifest. CREATES PRIORITIES 1. Kriya is helpful if you feel stuck with many thoughts and have difficulty focusing on what you need to do. 2. It will help you sort out your priorities and focus on the things that are important to manifest in your life now. 3. It also helps you focus your energy on them. HEALS THE HUMAN RACE 1. Kriya can be used to heal all the people of earth, helping them work together in harmony. Following Zonar, Halu, Harth, Rama, Gnosa, and Kriya, are Iava and Shanti.
126
SHANTI SYMBOL
HOW TO DRAW: Draw the angle first, then the curved lines. BRINGS PEACE 1. Creates trust in life. 2. Shanti can work with our connection to the flow of life allowing us to heal the past, create harmony in the present and release the future. This process of letting go creates an effortlessness to our living process, allowing us to enjoy life more deeply. 3. People who have a tendency to worry because things seem to have gone wrong in the past often grow to expect things to go wrong in the future. 4. Since Shanti helps heal the past, it brings peace into the now and helps free us from worry about the future. HEALS INSOMNIA 1. Shanti releases fear and creates a gentle peaceful feeling. Because of this, it can help heal insomnia and help you get a good nights sleep. 2. It is also good for healing nightmares. HEALS FEAR AND PANIC Shanti is also very helpful in treating panic attacks or chronic fatigue. 1. This is because it helps calm fears and brings peace. 2. Many people with these disorders worry about the future, they think about all the things that could go wrong, rather than focusing on their goals. 3. This is very draining, and they become weak and very tired. 4. Shanti creates such a soothing state of being they are able to focus more on the now, and do so in a peaceful way. MANIFESTS THE BEST RESULTS 1. When combined with Rama or Kriya, Shanti can bring harmony to the realization of ones goals, making them seem effortless to achieve. INCREASES CLAIRVOYANCE 1. Meditate with the point of Shanti going into the third eye. 2. Maintain this single-pointed focus and it will clear the brow chakra, enhancing clairvoyance. Following Zonar, Halu, Harth, Rama, Gnosa, Kriya, and Iava is Shanti.
128
IAVA SYMBOL
___________________________________________________________
129
2. 3. 4. 5.
CLARIFIES REALITY Claim your power. Sometimes there are others in our lives that try to control how we live. If we have a goal or a way of being that we want to create for ourselves, but there are those who don't want us to, it can make our achievements more difficult. Our plans and goals can become clouded by the negative intentions of others. This could be happening now, or there could be a residue of controlling thoughts and feelings in the subconscious mind left over from the past. This often happens because we have given up some of our power to those around us because of guilt and fear. 1. Iava helps you break free from others expectations and projections and take back your power so you can create your life the way you want it to be. HEALS CO-DEPENDENCE. Sometimes people make unconscious agreements with those they are close to that are not healthy and actually encourage each other to remain unhealed. These unconscious agreements prevent those involved from improving themselves 1. Iava helps you heal co-dependence allowing you to break free from an unhealthy sense of responsibility you may have with those you are close to. HEALS REALITY AWARENESS. 1. Iava helps us and those around us respect one another's independent realities. 2. Iava is truly an earth healing energy and can help us connect with the consciousness of trees, flowers, crystals, clouds, etc. 2. Try Iava on your houseplants. Iava works well with Harth to heal addictions. Following Zonar, Halu, Harth, Rama, Gnosa, Kriya, and Iava is Shanti. 130
GNOSA SYMBOL
131
GNOSA - The word "Gnosa" is derived from the Greek "Gnosis" meaning mystical and
spiritual knowledge acquired through feeling and prophecies from God. This symbol is pronounced, "know sa". It was channelled by Maria Abraham. It is also called "Planetary Healing and Enlightenment" by Maria and Kathleen. 1. 2. 3. 4. REIKI SYMBOLS
THERE SEEMS TO BE a lot of controversy and confusion about the Reiki symbols. For a long time, they were kept secret from everyone not initiated to the second level of Reiki. For decades, Reiki teachers (following in the footsteps of Hawayo Takata) did not allow even their students to keep written copies of the symbols! This led to many changes in the symbols over time, from people not remembering them precisely; the imprecision was passed from generation to generation of students, and compounded by each generation of teachers. Compounding things even further, Usui Reiki began to mutate into other varieties. New flavours of Reiki were born, seemingly as fast as flavours of ice cream -- and, building on what they thought was the original model, the inventors of these new varieties added even more symbols. At some point, a certain Reiki teacher blew the lid off the secrecy issue, by publishing a book that exposed the Reiki symbols (many variations of them) for all to see! That, in itself, created plenty of controversy. The Reiki world polarized, into those who applauded the exposure, and those who thought it was sacrilege. WHAT NO ONE (outside a small number of people in Japan) knew at that time was that the Reiki symbols were not essential, or even necessary, in the first place! And that they were not even introduced into the practice of Reiki, by Mikao Usui, until very near the end of his life. Now, thanks mostly to a group of people in Japan, who learned Reiki in the early 1900s from Usui himself, we know how the symbols came to be used in a way that Mikao Usui had never used them, and how they came to be regarded with such mistaken importance. The final 3 students that Usui taught were quite different than the others. They were military officers, not accustomed to using Buddhist meditations or Shinto kotodama (as were his other students) -- and so he gave them symbols instead. The symbols were to help these 3 students connect with particular energetic aspects. The symbols were NOT used by Usui in his Reiju empowerment procedure. As it happened, at least one of these final students, Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, did not learn the Reiju procedure from Usui (who passed away before Hayashi was ready for it). It seems he learned it later from another of Usui's students -- but then, in his own practice of Reiki, he replaced Reiju with an empowerment ritual of his own. Dr. Hayashi became, for whatever reason (and contrary to Mikao Usui's intentions), the selfproclaimed standard-bearer of Reiki, after Usui's passing. And the other 2 final students -Jusaburo Ushida (a.k.a. Gyuda) and Kan'ichi Taketomi -- became, respectively, the first and second Presidents of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai ("Usui Reiki Healing Method Society"). Thus, the Reiki symbols were given an importance and a function they had not had for Mikao Usui. Years later yet, a Japanese-American named Hawayo Takata would become Hayashi's most famous student. She would take the role of standard-bearer after Hayashi's passing -- and she would pass on his method of giving Reiki empowerment (which came to be called "attunement"), featuring the implanting of those famous Reiki symbols into the student's energy field! Through Takata and her lineage, this "attunement" procedure of Reiki empowerment has been the standard, worldwide, since the 1970s. Many variations have been born, and yet the central element of almost all seems to remain the implantation of the Reiki symbols. 137
If you view the symbols as "training wheels" on a bicycle (as the Usui Gakkai recommends), and if you let go of them once they had served their purpose, they will not cause a problem. They would be no more than artefacts of our journey (as they were intended to be in the first place); at the very worst, no more than "space junk" in the aura, like spent rocket casings orbiting the moon. Of course, had the simple elegance of Usui Reiju merely been retained, instead of replaced by more complicated "attunement" procedures (based on the implanting of symbols), this "space junk" would not even be there for us to contemplate; and, had the Reiki symbols not been imbued with a mistaken sense of power and magic and secrecy, they would be much easier for people to let go. In fact, had Hawayo Takata found her way to another one of Usui's students than Dr. Hayashi, the world at large would not even have learned of Reiki symbols! THE MORAL of the story, then: Reiki symbols were intended only to be "fingers pointing at the moon" (and the sun, and the earth: ^ ). Let's not mistake the finger for what it's pointing at! Reiki symbols are not Reiki. It's much better to get beyond the symbols, to the Source.

REIKI GLOSSARY
With every area of learning there is usually a vocabulary that is used by people in the system to more effectively communicate ideas, concepts practices, and to make the discussion of subjects in that topic easier to understand. Reiki is no different. For absolute beginners different terms like attunements, symbols, Usui Shiki Ryoho may be confusing at first. This Glossary is an aid to assist you in understanding the many different concepts and practices in Reiki quickly.
A
ADVANCED REIKI TRAINING - (also known as Level IIIa, Reiki Master Practitioner, or Personal Mastery Level in the Usui/Tibetan Systems) A collection of new age techniques and pseudo-Tibetan practices added to the Hayashi-Takata System of Reiki in the west. Advanced Reiki Training generally consists of Reiki Crystal Grids, a healing attunement, the Antahkarana symbol, Reiki Guide Meditation, Psychic Surgery, Reiki Symbol Meditation. Most closely associated with Raku Kai Reiki and William Rands Usui Tibetan Reiki. ANTAHKARANA SYMBOL - A symbol consisting of a cube shape with 7s on its face surfaces. Presumably of Tibetan origin although this cannot be determined. Claimed to have panacea type effects on all areas of healing. This is used in a specific meditation as well as on master frequency generator plates developed by Ralf Jensen. ATTUNEMENTS - Attunements are a technique common to all forms of reiki in the west. They use a process of placing the Reiki Symbols and energy into the meridians, aura or energy body of the recipient of the attunement process. Some Attunement systems focus on placing the energy in the Chakras. Attunements empower people to use reiki on themselves and others and facilitate a connection to the reiki source.
B
BEAMING - Beaming is a technique of distant healing. It is a line of sight distant reiki sending to a person. Although a distant healing technique, this is generally done in the presence of another when hands on reiki touch might be inappropriate (abuse cases, burn victims). Beaming is common to other healing systems such as in the Johrei Fellowship. BLOOD EXCHANGE - The blood exchange is a reiki method of cleansing the blood of toxins. It is thought that these practices stimulate the body to produce new blood cells and to stimulate the meridians effected. BREATH OF THE FIRE DRAGON (See also Violet Breath) - A special breathing technique used to place the reiki symbol in the crown of the student during an attunement. It is also used in Raku Kai to develop the microcosmic orbit and strengthen the reiki channel and promote health. BYOSEN (See Also Scanning) - A process where the hands of the reiki master move over the body of the recipient to determine if there are weaknesses, changes, or areas in need of treatment. There are various methods used. This is called Byosen Reikian ho in the Reiki ho practices in Japan.
140
C
CHAKRAS - Chakras are energy vortices on the energy body that comprise part of the energy system. They are Indo-Tibetan in origin and were added to reiki in the Raku Kai system of Reiki. They are currently commonly taught in many forms of reiki. Chakras were not part of the Japanese Reiki Practices or Mrs. Takatas practices. CHO KU REI - The First Reiki Symbol. Cho Ku Rei is commonly called the Power symbol in the Western Styles of Reiki (Usui Shiki Ryoho) but is called Focus in Traditional Japanese Reiki and in Japan. Some meanings for the symbol might be God is here, or put the power here.
D
DAI KO MIO - (also known as the Usui Master Symbol) The Dai Ko Mio is the Master symbol used in the all Reiki Systems. It is the symbol for the Ultimate Source of Love, Light, Harmony and Healing. A logical extension of Reiki Distant Healing and the Distant Symbol. DISTANT HEALING - This is sending Reiki energy for the purpose of healing someone not physically present. This uses the Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen (Distant Symbol) and a variety of techniques such as the photo technique, reiki stacks, healing lists, or teddy bear technique for a point of focus. DISTANT SYMBOL (See - Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen) - The Third Reiki Symbol. The Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen is a combination of Japanese Kanji (symbol language) that can mean no past, no present, no future which represents the timeless original purity of the source of all and the spirit of man. A translation might be To act in the Realization of Absolute Beingness (Thanks to Gabriel Shivers for that definition). DUMO (also known as Tibetan Master Symbol) - The Dumo is a Tibetan Symbol that is part of the William Rand Usui/Tibetan System as well as used by various Independent Reiki Masters including Diane Stein. This symbol is also referred to as the Tibetan Dai Ko Mio. This symbol is thought to unify the body and mind. F
FIRE SERPENT (See Also Nin Giz Zida) - A Tibetan symbol used in the Usui/Tibetan tradition. The Fire Serpent represents the Sleeping Serpent coiling at the base of the spine. The fire Serpent is used during an attunement with horizontal line over top of crown, snaking down the spine, and spiraling clockwise at base of spine; grounds energy into lower (feet to tailbone) body. By reversing the spiral (counter-clockwise) starting at base of spine, snaking up spine and ending with horizontal line over the crown; it pushes energy up to four upper chakras. It does not allow energy to escape out of crown chakra. The fire serpent connects and opens all chakras. It opens the central channel allowing the flow of Kundalini fire. It can be used in healing or meditation for more balance and receptivity.

H
HAND POSITIONS - Hand positions refer to the specific hand positions used when performing a Reiki treatment. The reiki practitioner places their hands on specified positions and lets the reiki flow into the recipients body at these points to facilitate healing. It appears that in Usuis Original Practices there were five positions and then he used Reji and Byosen to sense and scan for other locations to be treated. In Traditional Japanese Reiki, which is of the Hayashi line, there are seven positions. In the Hayashi-Takata line there are twelve. Other reiki systems may use different numbers of positions. HATSUREI HO - This is a meditation and breathing technique that was used by Usui. It is still used in Reiki Ryoho as practiced by the Gakkai. It is a technique that empowers the practitioner by increasing and enhancing their reiki channel and their connection to the reiki source. It is also to help the practitioner grow spiritually. It includes a self-cleansing ritual as well as two different meditation practices. HAYASHI (CHUJIRO HAYASHI, DR. HAYASHI) - Dr. Chujiro Hayashi was made a Reiki Master in 1925 and was a student of Usui. Dr. Hayashi was a retired officer from the Japanese Navy. He opened a Reiki clinic, which was more along the lines of a medical model. Dr. Hayashi made some modifications in the system including a heavier emphesis on the symbols and attunements, and most likely developed the 12 standard hand positions from in use in the west today. These hand positions allowed Reiki to be given by several practitioners at once. This group healing technique was used in his clinic. He was the teacher of Hawayo Takata. 142
HEALING ATTUNEMENTS - A non-initiatory attunement technique thought to increase healing developed by William Rand. Although the procedure is thought to not initiate the recipient into reiki as a practitioner, some masters have concern over using this procedure because they found that students retained the ability to do reiki and had no training. HEALING CRISIS - A concept found in pranic healing and other healing approaches that some masters have added into reiki. The concept of a healing crisis is that the recipient of a reiki treatment or attunement can experience a release and go into an emotional or physical crisis. The concept is not widely accepted by most masters. HUI YIN - An energy cranking technique used in attunements. It was added into Raku Kai Reiki and is part of William Rands Usui/Tibetan practices and Diane Steins Work. It is more commonly known in chi kung as the Microcosmic orbit. HON SHA ZE SHO NEN - The Third Reiki Symbol. The Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen is a combination of Japanese Kanji (symbol language) that can mean no past, no present, no future which represents the timeless original purity of the source of all and the spirit of man. REIKI TREATMENTS
Beginning Reiki - Touching the other
1. Move the hands from Gassho (OR KANJI HAND POSITION) and let the palms be face up, towards the ceiling as if you were holding precious water in them or a delicate butterfly rested on them. Your hands are the sacred holding this loving gift. You have connected to reiki, feel the energy in them. 2. Send the Reiki symbols into the palms of both hands. 3. Turn them over gently and lay them on yourself or the person you are treating. The pressure is loving and gentle. Do not press. If there are reasons not to touch the other person (i.e., sensitivity to touch due to abuse, burns, wounds, risk of infection) then simply hold the hands above the area to be treated.
Treating
1. Keep the hands on that position for 3 to 5 minutes. This is not a hard and fast rule but a simple guideline. Some experience that the energy begins to flow after laying the hand down. The energy will seem to increase for a time, and then ebb. You might feel this as tingles, or heat. 2. When it ebbs, move to the next position. There are times you feel nothing and in these cases follow the 3 to 5 minute guideline.
Finishing
1. When you are done again place hands in gassho. 2. Some schools of Reiki suggest: that you rinse your hands and arms in cold water to break energetic contact with the person. This is generally good advice and helps break the energetic connection. 3. When you are done with treatment, simply intend that the Reiki session is complete and that you are not connected to the person. 4. Some teachers also suggest that you break the energetic connection to your client, by "karate chopping" the astral cords that collect at your solar plexus. A practice that was used in Japan was called Kenyoku or "Dry Bathing". This was part of Usui's Reiki Ryoho that was developed from Shinto practices to cleanse and purify the body and spirit.

Tips:
1. Although there is not enough time to give a full treatment, do your best not to give the impression that you are rushing a treatment. 2. Recommend that the client arrange for a full follow-up treatment at their earliest convenience.
