Structure of the Courts Submitted by Travis W Hance Due: October 26th, 2011 Instructor: Stephen Gillespie Course: CJS220

The structure of our modern court system is designed around our modern legal system, and it protects our citizens by affording them certain rights, which cannot be taken away. This right to representation is often referred to as the Miranda rights, and protects a citizen against self-incrimination. What is truly interesting is that such rights actually require law enforcement officers to work harder to ensure that their evidence is sound. While this may seem to work at a crosspurpose, the actual fact is that we are made better by the high standards that are set. We as Law Enforcement officers work hard to raise the bar, we demand that citizens do more to protect each other, and we want all to work together to build a harmonious community.

Regardless of where we personally believe that we reside in life, the courts remain our last vestige of hope in life. They are the final word which brings all of our troubles down to black and white, and enables us all to live civilly.
