RO1: To review how other disciplines conceptualise residual space and establish a typology. DATA & METHOD: - Comprehensive review of academic literature. OUTPUT: - An index of types of RS theory built around different schools of thought.

RO4: To review how planning practice conceptualises residual space and to establish which school of thought practitioners adhere to. RO3: To establish (if) common typologies and concepts of residual space exist. DATA & METHOD: - Comparative analysis.

DATA & METHOD: - Focus groups with practitioners. - Online interviews with practitioners. - Comparative analysis. OUTPUT: - An index of the main schools of thought in planning practice - A written investigation into how concepts of RS influence practice.

RO2: To review how planning theory and policy conceptualises residual space and establish a typology. DATA & METHOD: - Comprehensive review of academic literature. - Comprehensive review of national policy & guidance. - Assessment of policy & guidance in areas in which focus group participants operate.

OUTPUT: - A cross-discipline index of the main schools of thought.

OUTPUT: - An index of types of RS theory built around different schools of thought.

Stage 3: Reflecting on the Conceptual Coherence and Value of RS

RO5: To reflect on the coherency of the concept, and its potential value, from a planning perspective.
