Soul is the nature of the spirit

Brother William Marrion Branham.

Query: Soul, Nature, Spirit

EXPERIENCES 3. 47-1221
…Well now, look. Sight is a sense of the body. Is that true? Sight is
one of the senses. How many senses are there of the body? See,
taste, feel, smell, and hear. How many senses are there to spirit?
Two: faith and doubt.

Are you two people in one? You're soul... Your soul, that's the
nature of the spirit 'course. But now, you're body and spirit. Is that
right? You are a body, flesh, and you're inside, then, spirit. Is that
true? All right. The out... The inside man leaves; the outside man's
dead. Is that right?

AT THY WORD. 50-0714

E-34 034 We thank Thee for Thy love, that You loved us while we
were aliens, alienated from God, cut off without mercy, sinners by
nature, going to a Christless grave and a Godless eternity. And
Christ died for our sins in our stead, and has went before God now
with our sins as a sin Offering, to be made an offering for us,
taking our place, and His soul was put in hell. But it was not
possible that His holy One should see corruption, so He raised
Him again after three days.

Oh, and He's a High Priest tonight, setting there making

intercessions; with His own Blood He's entered in before the
Master. And tonight, if does not appear what we shall be, but we
know we'll have a body like His, for we shall see Him as He is. We
believe that's soon, Lord. Come, Lord Jesus.

Move tonight in sweet love and compassion upon Your people.

Heal every one that's sick and needy; break up the hearts of the
haughty. "He that goeth forth, sowing in tears, will doubtless return
again rejoicing, bringing with him precious sheaves." Mold us and
make us after Thy own will. Bless all the unsaved, and may they,
somehow tonight, by the Word, or by the Spirit of God, be
convinced that they're wrong, and come humbly, and give their
2 The Spoken Word
hearts to Thee. May all the sick be healed, for we ask it in the
Name of Thy beloved Son, Jesus. Amen.

CRUELTY OF SIN. 53-0403

48 017 Then He said, after He had got all of that made, before
He'd ever done anything else... I can see this little Halo move
over--over this world, which was merely a cinder, frozen, hanging
out there like a great iceberg. And He moved it over near the sun.
And He begin to turn it like that, around the sun. It begin to melt,
and the big ice glaciers tore loose. Texas was being formed, and
the plains there; as we're taught how the icebergs come down
through there, best chronologists can figure out. And then the
whole world, after it run down into the Gulf of Mexico, and so forth,
begin to berm up with water. "And the world, without form, and
void..." Now we're in Genesis 1. See? Now then, God moved and
separated the firmament from the waters. And He made the lights.

And then He created all His creations. Then after He made it, all
the trees come up, and the plants, and so forth. What a beautiful
setup He had. He loved it. It was beautiful. And He thought that
was fine.

51 018 So He couldn't just leave it in that state; He had to leave

something with it. So He said, "Let us (plural) make man (plural) in
our own image. Let us make man in our own image." So then
when God made His first man, He was a spirit man. He was
something on the order of God, or the Son of God, the Logos. That
was the first man. Then He gave the man jurisdiction over the--to
lead all the animal life, just like the Holy Spirit leads the believer
today: "Go here. Do this."

Now, if we were perfect in submission to the Holy Spirit, God would

lead us by the Holy Spirit, just like Adam led the animals of that
day.

53 019 So He--He made them. And then, when He did, He begin to

move upon--upon the idea then that--that He had made man out of
the dust of the earth. There was no man to till the soil, no one to do
work, no physical being. So He made man out of the dust of the
earth.
Soul is the nature of the spirit 3
Now, there's where I think that a--a botanist, or--or science and
Christianity, does not conflict one with another. Because science
says, the man came from different a life; and we say, when you
look at a man here, he's in the image of God. This is, was not the
image of God to begin with. This was the image of animal life. And
he... And the evolutionists argues that we... I don't believe in the
chain of evolution the way they do, all coming from the single cell.
But I believe we evolute, certainly, the evolution one man from
another. But then when God made all of that, and got--put the man
in the...

55 020 Made him out of the dust of the earth, now, not in His Own
image. He had already made the man. Then He breathed into him
the breath of life, and he became a living soul. So the soul of man
is the nature of the spirit.

Now, when you're reborn, you don't get a new spirit. You get a new
nature of that spirit. It's the same spirit, but a new nature of it. You
take two men, stand them together, both look alike; and one of
them is a sinner, and one of them is a Christian. One man say, "I
got a spirit the same as you have." See? But one of them is a
different, his soul, his nature's different. He's been changed.

57 021 So then He breathed into this man. Now, I don't know how,
I don't how He made him. He--He put him in five senses so he
could contact his earthly home, and see, taste, feel, smell, and
hear. And He made him in that manner. Now, those senses was
not to contact God.

His sense to contact God was his spirit, his soul was to con... "The
soul that sinneth, the soul shall die."

Now, I'm going a long ways around to get something, but I hope
you get every point of it, so you can see exactly what God had to
do at Calvary.
60 022 Now, when this man, then, when He put him in his senses,
his five senses... And then, the man, he was lonesome, so He
made him a wife, a helpmate, taken from his side a rib and made a
woman.
4 The Spoken Word
A beautiful type there, all in type, of God taking from the side of
Christ, the Bride. See? God opened up Adam's side, taken a rib;
which, a man has one less rib than a woman in the structure of
the--the body. And now God opened up the side of Christ, in the--
at Calvary, and taken out the Bride. The Church comes through
the Blood of Christ into the Body of Christ. See?

That's how--how we come in, and through no other way. No matter

how church you belong to, how good a man you are, how good a
woman you are; you must accept God's all-sufficient Sacrifice, His
provided way, or you're lost. That's right. That's the only way that
you can come in, is through there. Now, there's only one way, and
that's the Door.

EXPLAINING HEALING AND JAIRUS. 54-0216

E-23 023 We are thinking of Jairus. I believe he was a nice, little
fellow. Many times that we judge people by their actions, and
sometimes we don't judge the heart.

You know, I've often thought, back here is the spirit of a man, the
next is his soul, the next is his mind, and then his flesh. All right.
Satan does not tempt down in here, he tempts out here in the
flesh. For instance, you go down the street tomorrow, you're
walking along singing Christian songs, and somebody says, "You
know, she or he, is just a hypocrite (talking about you.); there's
nothing..." Now, the first thing, your flesh picks that up in the ear,
and it suggest to the mind, "Get even with him." Time it gets back
here, he says, this back here says, "'Vengeance is Mine,' saith the
Lord. 'I will repay.'" See? That's it.

So Satan tempts out here. You see? He doesn't get down here,
because is immortal. See? It's the flesh that he tempts.

Young man going down the street, young Christian boy, a young
lady coming immorally dressed. The eye picks it up; the flesh
suggest to the mind evil. Then time it gets to the mind, goes to the
soul, the nature's good... The soul of man is the nature of the spirit,
of course. And so, when the soul gets there, but the Spirit says,
"Whoever looketh upon a woman to lust after has committed
adultery in his heart already." The young man turns his head and
walks away. See? That's down here is where it's got to be, not out
Soul is the nature of the spirit 5
here. It's got to be down in your heart, where it's got to come from,
where--where God lives.

E-24 024 And little Jairus, I'd imagine, down in his heart he
believed on the Lord. But what he had, he had joined up with a
bunch of unbelievers. You know there's a lot of people like that
tonight? They believe, would like to be right here in this meeting
tonight, but they're got their name on books that doesn't believe
this. You see? So they're secret believers.

And Jairus... You know a man like that, God sooner or later will
bring it to a showdown, I believe. So Jairus probably went with the
priest, and they said, "Ever who goes to these healing campaigns,
can just come get your membership and leave." 'Cause they
couldn't no more belong to the synagogue. See? They had to get
out. And so they--they couldn't believe on this fanatic, because He
didn't teach the way their seminaries taught, and so forth, so... But
He did have the Word of the Lord. And He had a spiritual move.
God always...

WORD BECAME FLESH. 54-1003M

185 082 Our thoughts run different. A lot of times we walk up, say
"How do you do, brother?" And you don't mean it in your heart. A
lot of times we say, "I am this and that. I will do that." You don't
mean it in your heart. See? I don't mean it in my heart.

But when you can become so dead to the things of the world, that
Christ is first, Christ is all, then your entire makeup is of the Spirit
of the Lord Jesus Christ, He has full control. That's when your
thoughts will be clean. Your thoughts will be pure. Your heart--your
heart...

Many people say, "Well, religion comes from your heart." There's
no mental facilities in that little being called "heart." You can't think
with your heart. The Bible said, "As a man thinketh in his heart, so
is he." You can't think with your heart. You can't, 'cause there's
nothing mentally in there to think with. Jesus wasn't speaking of
the physical being; He was speaking of the supernatural being.

188 083 We are a threefold being: soul, body, spirit. We know that
what this flesh is; we realize that; it's here. We know what the spirit
6 The Spoken Word
is; it controls the flesh. But what is the soul? The soul is the nature
of the spirit.

When a man is converted, it doesn't mean that... Here is a good,

deep teaching. I hope you get it...

WORD BECAME FLESH. 54-1003M

210 090 What? You couldn't make a lamb out of a pig, if you had
to. He's a pig to begin with; he tends to his own business, and tell
the lamb to take care of his own business. The only way that you
could make that pig believe that it's wrong to be in the pig pen,
would put a lamb spirit in him. If he ever gets a lamb's soul in
him... Or, a lamb ain't got no soul. But if he ever gets a lamb's spirit
in him, the very nature of the thing... That's the reason you can't
make, convert a pig; you can't convert a lamb, because he ain't got
no soul. What he is in his spirit, he's got that same nature forever.
See?

But a human being can be changed from a pig to a lamb, because

he's got a soul made in the image of God. Amen.

212 091 Well, his thoughts changed. Something does it for him.
Hallelujah. "As a man thinketh in his heart." See? Christ the
Creator come to him in a still form, and created. His Own Spirit
took the man's nature away, to love dancing, and the world, and
carrying on, and from that time he just laid it aside and was
hungering after God. And God was in him all the time. It was God
in the beginning. See? There you are. Amen.

"As a man thinketh..." It has to become a thought before it can

become a word. And a word expressed, materializes. I believe in
my heart that I am a Christian, because I have accepted the Lord
Jesus Christ; if I don't cry, if I don't move, if I don't do a thing. In my
heart first, I believe that Christ died for me in my stead. Amen. I
accept it as a Christian; I believe it as a Christian; then it's in my
heart. Then I express it in a word, "I am a Christian." Hallelujah.
Then I start walking as a Christian, talking as a Christian, living as
a Christian, being as a Christian. And by my fruits I'm recognized
by the world as a Christian. Hallelujah.
Soul is the nature of the spirit 7
214 092 Say, I didn't aim to get that loud. But I... But there It is,
God's Word. Jesus said... Here it is. Oh, just tell me when I'm long
enough. But well, Jesus said this. Look, "In the beginning..."
Notice. See, "A man, as he thinketh in his heart."…

LAW OR GRACE. 54-1006

99 038 Now, we see that we do wrong, "Oh, I have did wrong. I've
sinned. I've--I've lived wrong. I've done wrong." Now, I come to the
altar. By faith I see the Sacrifice; I lay my hands upon Jesus' head.
I say, "Dear God, I know that my... I'm a sinner, and wages of sin is
death. And if I do wrong, I've got to die. And if I die, I can't come in
Your Presence, I'll be punished in torment forever and ever. So I'm
wrong, Father. And I want to be right, and I don't want to die like
this." So I lay my hands upon His head, and His life was taken for
my life. But the thing of it is, when I go away from the altar, I go
away with a changed heart. See?

100 039 The first man went away under the law, under animal's
blood; it couldn't change his heart, 'cause a animal life won't
compare with human life. The animal can't give the human blood.
See? The animal can't do it, 'cause his life is a different life. And an
animal has a life, but not a soul. An animal is a living being but not
a soul. But God put soul on man. So then, my soul... What is the
soul? The nature of the spirit.

And when the soul of Christ was left--not left in hell, but was taken
up, through the Blood, shedding of His Blood, when God taken
Him to Calvary, it mingled His Blood out there on the cross; and
when He stood there waving His head back and forth, the crowns
around His head, like this, with thorns, the Blood running down in
His face, dripping off of His locks on His shoulders, crying in an
unknown tongue, "My God, My God, why has Thou forsaken Me?"
there's the Lamb. That's the One. That's the innocent One that
died, that me, the unworthy one, could be made right, that I might
have a right to Life. That's the unworthy. I... we're...?...

LAW HAVING A SHADOW. 54-1203

E-70 070 And every man that's ever borned of the Spirit of God,
takes on a nature that he can't digest the world no more. "For if
you love the world, or the things of the world, the love of God's not
even in you." And, brother, if you still love the world and professing
8 The Spoken Word
to be God's child, for the sake of your own soul, find a place at the
altar and pray through until God takes the world out of you. For He
has perfected forever those that are sanctified or cleaned by the
Holy Spirit, then we are in perfection…

POSITION OF A BELIEVER IN CHRIST. 55-0227A

E-47 047 Under law, under shadows, they get in under the
shedding of the blood of goats and bulls, which we went through,
which could not take away sin. It was the life of an animal. How
could the life and spirit of a dead animal, coming out of the blood
of life--the cell of life, breaking forth the blood that was shed, ever
that life ever returning back into an animal? or to a man? The life
of a lamb, of the heifer, of the goat, or an animal that's been
sacrificed, after the blood has been broken for our sins... That's
why it never returns back and having anything to do with a human
being. It could not.

But God, before the foundation of the world, foreordained that

Jesus would come the perfect Lamb of God, into a perfect cell that
God Himself created, to bring Blood into the world to offer that the
Blood...?...

And if you can turn Him down in this hour, a love that the sinner,
that was in that Blood cell with His love and the Holy Ghost
Himself, after that offering of that man, can come back and
possess the believer... He bought eternal redemption. Amen.

E-48 048 Now, did you get that? Then how? See it? Through the
Blood, washing of the Blood, taking away, separating of sin, that
the Holy Spirit woos the believer through the Blood, cleansing of
the soul into the fellowship, into this Spirit Life, inside with Christ,
shut out the world, and very nature of God is in you; still subject to
mistakes, but God can't see it, because it's covered by the Blood.
God can't see through the Blood. Every time He looks through the
Blood, it looks white. He looks through the Blood; it looks white.

So if God was so pleased with Christ till He accepted Him, and

said, "This is My beloved Son, in Whom I'm well pleased."... And
through Christ, being the perfect One, us dead to our own thoughts
and ideas, being born of the Spirit of God, walking not after the
theology, but after the Spirit inside of us, then let the dead in Christ
Soul is the nature of the spirit 9
walk not after the things of the world, but after the things of the
Spirit. Romans 8:1 said, "There is therefore now no condemnation
to them that are in Christ Jesus, that walk not after the flesh
(fighting, war, and strife, envying, selfish things), but after the
Spirit."

INTER VEIL. 56-0121

E-46 046 Brother, as it was in that case, so is it many a hypo
needles stops the deathbed confession. Oh, she thought she was
right. But when it come the time to die, even a backslidden pastor
had got around... She was all right. Sure, she was a good member
of the church. And she paid into the church. And she was a pianist
in the church, and whatmore. What more could she do?
Intellectually she was thinking she was right. But when it come to a
place...

You remember, your mind it's in--it's governed by the blood cells,
and by the brain cells. And then when them blood cease to
function to those brain cells, then the mind begin to... the
intellectual part begin to die out of the woman. And when it begin
to die out, and she begin to see, when that... this... spirit down
here in her heart, which is her soul, went toward God... Death
means separate.

And if you sin, disbelieve willfully, after Gospel's been presented to

you, that soul nature of yours will gradually move away from you,
and you'll feel it no more, just drawed away. You won't know it.

SPIRITUAL INSPIRATION. 56-0128

E-50 050 Now, when the woman realized that this inspiration was
on her, she obeyed exactly, because she knowed it was in
harmony with the supernatural.

Say, "What are you talking about, Brother Branham?" I'm trying to
base your faith on a level with God being almighty, and supreme,
and all powerful, and omnipotent. And He hasn't changed. His
nature doesn't change. My nature might change; yours might
change; but God's nature will never change. If He's still the great
Jehovah God that created the heavens and earth and had all
powers in His hand, He's still the same Jehovah tonight. If He's
Almighty God, He can do all things. If He can't do all things, He's
10 The Spoken Word
not Almighty God. Inspiration tells you that. Reasonings will say it's
not so, but inspiration says it is so, inspiration from the soul not
from the mind.

It's mind reasonings, theology, manmade so called, will make you

very religious; it'll make you just as religious and keep the sabbath
days and do all these other things, but will deny the existence of
the Almighty to perform miracles and do supernatural. Didn't the
Spirit say in the last days they'd be that way, "Heady, high minded,
having a form of godliness but would deny the power thereof; from
such turn away"? Wake up, Church.

How did Abel know how to offer the right sacrifice? He was
inspired.

CHURCH AND ITS CONDITION. CH 1-34 56-0805

74 052 I want you to notice this animal too, this little animal; it was
a silent lamb because it didn't... When He was reviled, He reviled
not again. He didn't rail and carry on, and fuss and stew, and go
on, He didn't do it. When somebody... When He was reviled, He
reviled not again. He opened not His mouth.

But you let somebody do something to you or me, oh, my, we blow
up like a toad frog eating buckshot, puff out like a--like an old
goose. "I'll tell you right now; he step on my toes like that again, I'll
never go back to that old church again. No, sir. Bless God.
Hallelujah. The Nazarenes will receive me, the Pilgrim Holiness,
they'll take me. Hallelujah. I don't have to do it no more." All right,
the Dove takes Its flight.

76 053 "You know what? If that old hypocrite goes to that church,
I'll never go again. Bless God, I'll never do it." When that thing
strikes you, that old snarling wolf, the Dove takes Her flight. That's
right. Then the Holy Ghost is gone.

Then you wonder what's the matter with you. You wonder what's
the matter with the church. You wonder what's the matter with you.
Why ain't you got victory like you used to have? You changed your
nature. You become a goat instead of a lamb. You become
something else besides a lamb.
Soul is the nature of the spirit 11
You've got to get that real meek Spirit, "Let the Holy Ghost lead me
wherever. God, I love every sinner, no matter where they are."
That kind of a place get in the human heart, then you're going to
see something happen. Your soul.

You say, "Well, Brother Branham, is there any solution for it?" Yes,
just become a lamb; that's all. You say, "Well, Brother Branham..."

THEN JESUS CAME. 57-0302

E-75 075 And here stands Spanish, Indian, Anglo-Saxon, Irish,
German, all different types of people. As Thou has died to save the
world, and Abraham called the father of nations. Through the seed,
by Isaac come Christ; through Christ's death, we become dead to
the things of the world and joint-heirs with Him and are Abraham's
seed. And we call those things which are not, as though they--as
are as though they were not, because we believe God's Word.
With the operation of the Holy Spirit, Who could raise a rank sinner
from his seat and send him up here to this altar... Something's
happened. Something's taken place.

How could a pig ever be told that he's wrong? How could the lamb
ever make the pig believe that his diet was wrong? Never could
he, until the nature of the pig had been changed. O God, that's
what You've done to these people tonight. You've convinced them
that they're wrong, and they want their nature changed. And you
changed their attitude and brought them to this altar. And here they
stand as committed souls…

LAMB AND THE DOVE. 57-0325

E-66 066 Now, let's go to prayer. Now, as we bow our heads in
prayer, remember that Dove setting right out there in front of you.
He just wants to come back. "How can I do it, Brother Branham?"
Just be a lamb. Just be a lamb. Just say, "God, I--I'm sorry I did all
that I did. Tonight I'm coming back. I'm going to be a lamb from
tonight on."

E-67 067 Now, heavenly Father, You see their hands, and I'm so
glad that--for this city of Oakland, to see the--the contamination of
the great masses of things has never struck this city yet, and some
of the things that's happened. Or at least, Lord, You still got
children that's hungering and thirsting. I thank Thee for them. And I
12 The Spoken Word
pray that You'll bless them, Lord, just abundantly, and give to them
the deep desire of their heart.

Move, Holy Spirit, fly right down on every one of them hearts just
now. And may way down deep in their soul, not some outward
emotion, but way down deep in the soul, they can feel just a sweet,
humble, soothing something coming over them, knowing that that's
God coming back, as they're changing that old nature that they did
have and becoming a lamb. The Holy Spirit's coming right in like a
Dove to abide there, just abide. And may from this hour on, may
they live godly, humble Christian lives. May You lead them from
victory unto victory until the day that You're finished with us on
earth and then receive us in glory. For we ask it in Christ's Name.
Amen.

GREAT COMMISSION. 57-0804A

E-24 024 Now, Divine healing and salvation for the soul is not on
the same basis. Jesus died that He might save us. When we're
saved, we're saved eternally. But when we're healed, physically,
we'll get sick again. But the soul is the immortal part, and Jesus
said, "He that heareth My words, believeth on Him that sent Me,
hath (that's present tense), Everlasting Life and it shall never come
to the judgment, but is passed from death unto life." That settles it.

Then when we are borned again, we're a new creature. And that
soul is a part of God. The Eternal Life there comes from the Greek
word, "Zoe," which means "God's own Life." That makes us sons
and daughters of God. We can no more perish than God can
perish, 'cause you're a part of Him.

E-25 025 But you... When you're sick in your physical body, until
this body has been redeemed, it's subject to sickness again.
Exactly right. Now... But it's got to die. It's got to perish. So did the
soul have to perish, the thoughts. The soul is the nature of the
spirit. And those thoughts and so forth in you had to perish, before
the new man could be borned into you to make you a new creature
in Christ…

THIRSTING FOR LIFE. 58-0611

E-14 014 So let us turn tonight, that I've chosen for a subject or
reading, Scripture reading, out of the Psalms, 63rd Psalm. And I
Soul is the nature of the spirit 13
wish to read just a portion of it here, the 1st, and 2nd, and
perhaps, 3rd verse.

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek

Thee: My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh
longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land,
where no water is.

To see thy power and thy glory, as I have

seen it in thy sanctuary.

Because thy lovingkindness is better than

life, my lips shall praise thee.

E-15 015 Did ever you read such words? "How my soul longeth for
Thee in a thirsty land, where no water is." This is rather an unusual
text, but God is unusual; God does unusual things, and He works
in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform.

And we're living in an unusual day and an unusual time, but we're
serving the God that's been in all times. And when I thought of
this... You know, my soul thirsts for Thee... If your soul is what
directs you, it's what makes you what you are. A conversion is... A
soul is the nature of the spirit. And when a man is converted, he
doesn't get another spirit. He gets a spirit change, a conversion
means to change his thinking, change his way of living and so
forth. So my soul thirsts for Thee.

is just not exactly like a human being. Some medicine will help
some people and kill others. So there is a question on that, about
taking the medicine.
But there's no question on God's Balm, His Toxin; It works on
whosoever will, let him come that he might drink from the fountain
of the Lord. It's not questioned.

BALM IN GILEAD. 59-0707

E-20 020 Please, will you excuse this rude, most rude expression.
I do not say it to be bad. I do not say it with malice. I say it with
love. Last Saturday, wife and I were going to the grocery. And our
little city's just about thirty-seven thousand in population. And they
have a new shopping center, which all the people goes out to this
14 The Spoken Word
Youngstown Shopping Center on Saturday, because many of the
great chain stores are there.

And as we drove, of the hundreds of women we passed, we found

one with a skirt on. The rest of them were dressed so immorally.
My wife said to me; she said, "Billy, look. Don't you believe that
that woman knows that she's naked?"
I said, "I don't think so."

She said, "If she doesn't know she's naked, then she's out of her
mind."

I said, "No, she's just an American. She follows the American

trend. She acts like the rest of the Americans does."

Well she said, "Then aren't we Americans?"

I said, "As citizenship of our flesh, we are. But we are pilgrims and
we are strangers here; and we are seeking a City to come." I said,
"That's the reason that one American is different from the other.
Our spirits has been born from above. And in that land where we
come from, the nature and the habits of that land is holiness,
cleanliness, godliness. And if the Spirit of that land moves into us,
then this land is strange to us." 'Cause your soul and your spirit
motivates you; it makes you what you are. And you'll never be able
to join churches and get that out of you; you'll still be a church
member and make fun of people who preach against such
immorals.

E-21 021 You've got to be borned again from above. Then you are
new creatures in Christ Jesus, and you're as Abraham was; you're
his children. You are seeking a City whose Builder and Maker is
God. That's why you act different. That's why you see things
different. You never get customized to this world, because you're
from above. You act like the Kingdom you belong in.

I'm glad to be a citizen of America. I think it's the best. But, oh

brother, I hate to trust that would being my salvation. The American
spirit is vulgarity, evil.
Soul is the nature of the spirit 15
Every kingdom in the world is controlled by the devil. The Bible
said so. Satan said, "These are all mine to do with them whatever I
want to."

Jesus never denied it. But He knew He was going to fall heir to
them in the millennium. And He said, "Get thee behind me, Satan."
No wonder the Scriptures said, "Rejoice, ye heavens and all ye
earth, for the kingdoms of this world have become the Kingdoms of
our Lord and of His Christ." Yes. It makes a difference.

WHO IS THIS. 59-1004M

E-38 038 Now, it isn't so much of what other people think that. The
thing we're thinking about this morning is, Who do you think It is?
It's up to you and I. Is it just the fellowship of a denomination called
Pentecostal, Church of God, Pilgrim Hol--or Nazarene, or
something like that, Church of God, Assemblies of God, United
Pentecostal church, Is that what It is? If that's it, you're miserable.
That's it, your religion is just a religion; it has no salvation in it.

But if you examined it and found it in your soul to be Jesus Christ,

the Son of God, then blessed is he that cometh in the Name of the
Holy Spirit. Hosanna in the highest to him that cometh in the Holy
Ghost, because it is Jesus Christ's own Spirit in His Church
making you sons and daughters of His, giving you His nature, for
you'll live with the Father also in the eternal times to come. "Who is
it? What's this all about?" And the coming of the Holy Spirit has
always brought such.

FELLOWSHIP. 60-0611B

E-35 035 Now, there... Just like you living your life, you live the
same thing. And if... You only live in a three room house. God lived
in a three room house: soul, body, and spirit. God lived in a--in a
three room house: it's Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. And you live in
a three room house. The Spirit comes to a three room house:
justification, sanctification, baptism of the Holy Ghost.

And you live in a three house, natural. First, you have the kitchen.
Next you have is a parlor. And next you have, is a bedroom.
16 The Spoken Word
Notice a young couple, before they can complete in that a phileo
love, or phileo love... Before... What's the first thing? Is they make
a promise one to another. They get married. And they live in this
three room house. Now, you might have two bedrooms. You might
have a--a extra dining room, but you only still living in three rooms.
And you living in this body, as a three room house: soul, body,
spirit. Everything, that you--anywhere you want to go through,
nature or whatevermore, it's all comes to those threes. God is
perfected in that number three.

LAMB AND DOVE. 60-0805

E-16 016 Now, in the ark the dove and the crow set on the same
roost. Both of them were birds, one of could fly where the other
one flew. One could do just anything the other one could do. But
when they were turned loose to take their choice, they turned the
dove loose first, and the little fellow flew about, and the Bible said,
"She could find no rest for the soles of her feet." Every time she
could find something to set on, it was a dead carcass, an old dead
something of the world, and she could not light on that. Why, it was
against her nature.

And if a man is ever born with that Spirit of the Dove in him, I don't
say he won't leave, something might happen he'd fly loose
somewhere, but if he really had that Dove Spirit, he will find no rest
for the soul that's in him. Backslider, you're the most miserable
person in the world. You can't find pleasure anywhere. You'll sound
like you're testimony like Peter said, "To whom should we go?
Where can we go? You're the only One that has the Words of
Eternal Life."

And a real borned again Christian sometimes might get angry at

something done in the church; it'll poison his system. But if he's a
real dove, he will come back, just as sure as God's in heaven, he
will do it, because there's something in him that won't let him light
on them old dead carcasses, out to a rock-and-roll party, or a beer
joint, they simply stink to him. To any borned again Christian, they
just can't stand it, because he has no gall in him to digest such a
thing.
Soul is the nature of the spirit 17
REVELATION CHAP. 4. PT 2. 24 ELDERS. 61-0101
230 098 Now, he... John, where's John standing? At the court.
Let's just read just a little farther here so you get the picture.

And out of the throne proceed lightnings... thunders... voices: and

there was seven lamps of fire... (Wait till we get to that.)... burning
before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God...

Reflecting the Light of God into the church, right straight from the
throne of God. Not through a seminary, not through some bishop;
but from the throne of God by a revelation of the power of His
resurrection, making Him the same yesterday and forever. Them
seven stars standing there reflecting that Light, the Shekinah Light,
from the Shekinah Glory from the holiest of holy. Seven lamps on
fire, setting on top of these candlesticks, reflecting His Light, His
colors of His power of His resurrection, right into the church. Amen.
Hm.

And before the throne... was a sea of glass liken unto crystal: and
in the midst of the throne, and around about the throne, were four
beasts full of eyes before and behind.

And he goes ahead and he begins to give this--these beasts, the

same thing Ezekiel saw: them guards, one like a man, one like a
lion, and one like the eagle. What was it? Now, watch, when we
bring them in and show that Lion of the tribe of Judah and all those
different ones out of their tribes, that set on four walls, and they
were guarding this mercy seat. Oh, what a picture. Oh, I just...
There's great days ahead.

233 099 As we seen them... Now, that was God's throne in

heaven. Moses patterned it on earth, was God's throne because
His judgment seat was represented here on earth in the holy of
holies. God... All Israel come to that one place to find mercy,
'cause God only met under the shed blood.

Now, listen close. Then the Shekinah glory raised from that mercy
seat one day, and it settled on another Tabernacle (Amen.), this
One, "The Father judges no man, but He's committed all judgment
to the Son": God's Judgment Seat. "You speak against Me, it'll be
forgiven you," speak another--another One coming, another Mercy
18 The Spoken Word
Seat. Speak... You can speak against the Son of man, and I will
forgive you; but someday the Holy Spirit will come to dwell in the
hearts of the people, one word against It will never be forgiven."

235 100 It keeps getting more severe and more severe all the
time, the judgment, 'cause God's continually wearing His patience
out, trying to get sinners to come to Him to be reconciled. First, He
was in the heavens above and shining in the stars. The second,
He was on earth shining through the Shekinah Glory. Next, He
come and was made flesh and dwelled among us, still wearing His
patience. Then He redeemed man by His Blood, came into His
church in the form of the Holy Ghost, and speak against That it's a
finished thing, done.

Now, you can see where the shaking come. We're at a time they
don't realize. People can't comprehend what it means.

237 101 Now, the first throne was in heaven, judgment seat. The
second throne was in Christ; the third throne is in man.

Now, let me take this little thing that I got drawed here. We're going
to make... I wished I had a blackboard, and I could make it maybe
more sensible for you. We're going to take and draw the courts,
only make it in a round ring, or like this, either one. Now, we're
going to take... I believe, like this maybe would be the best; we're
going to take and make the courts.

Now, what is a man? He's a triune being: body, soul, and spirit.
How many knows that? Watch God's approach. What is his heart?
You remember my message, "God Chose a Man's Heart for His
Control Tower?" The Devil chose his head for his control tower.
See? He makes him see things, look through his eyes. But yet
God in his heart makes him believe things that he cannot see.
See? See, God is on his heart; in the heart of man is the throne of
God. You get it? Man... God made His throne in the heart of man.

Now, watch. What's the first part of the man? The first part of the
man is body. The next part is his soul, which is the nature of his
spirit that makes him what he is. He approaches now. Now, the
third part of the man is his spirit, and his spirit is in the center of his
Soul is the nature of the spirit 19
heart, and in the center of the heart is where God comes for the
throne.

241 102 You remember, recently, the--the papers give in Chicago

about four years ago, when the old believer--old unbeliever, rather,
used to say that God made a mistake through Solomon when He
said, "As a man thinketh in his heart." Said, "There's no mental
faculties in the heart to think with. How could he think with his
heart? He have to--he meant his head."

If God would've meant his head, He'd have said his head.

Like Moses, what if Moses... God would've said, "Moses, take off
your shoes; you're on holy ground."

He said, "Oh, well, I'll take off my hat, that's just as good"? He said
shoes. He didn't say hat; He said shoes.

244 103 And when He said, "Repent, and be baptized in the Name
of Jesus Christ," He didn't mean Father, Son, Holy Ghost. He
meant just what He said.

When He said, "You must be born again," He didn't say, "You

ought to be."

He said, "These signs shall follow them that believe." He never

said, "Maybe they will."

He says what He means. And He's God and He can't take it back.
He knows what's perfect, so He makes it that way, and that's the
way He--he intends it to be, and you have to come up to that, not
Him come down to your idea, you got to come up to His idea.
That's the difference.

248 104 Now, now, on this system of body, soul... Now, if you'll get
the word "soul" and look it up, it'll tell you in the--in the Bible
dictionary or Webster, any of them, it is "the nature of the spirit."

Now, here's a man, we'd say, here's John Doe. All right, John Doe,
and here's Sam Doe. All right. Now, John Doe is a man, body, he's
a brother to Sam Doe. Now, John is a spirit, soul, body; and Sam
20 The Spoken Word
Doe is the same thing, body, soul, spirit. You see? It's, body, soul,
spirit. Now, this man is evil, mean, cheat, steal, lie, commit
adultery, any evil thing that he can do; but this man is full of love,
peace, joy. They both got soul, body, and spirit. Well, what's the
difference? This man can go back and say, "I remember my
mama. I remember things that we done when we was boys"; both
of them can. They both got spirits; they both got souls; they both
got bodies.

But the nature of this man's spirit is evil; the nature of this man's
spirit is good. See? So the nature of the spirit is the soul of man.
See? So now, God is trying to get into the what? The spirit and
heart of man. Where the spirit lays is in the heart.

250 105 You know, and science said (as I never finished that) that
man couldn't think with his heart. And science begins to find out
that there's a little compartment in the human heart (not in animal
heart, but in the human heart), there's not even a blood cell, nor
nothing. They said, "It must be the place where the soul occupies,
or the spirit." Just--just let them alone; they'll take their own silly
things and prove God. That's right. God just makes the foolish
testify of Him.

Now, there it is, big headlines in the paper. Brother Boze's little girl
said, "Brother Branham, you know what you was saying the other
day?" Said, "Look, look, science has already found out."

I said, "Well, bless God. I want that, sister; I want--I want that."

The soul of man is the nature of the spirit, and the spirit dwells in
the heart of man.

255 106 Now, now, what is the outer courts? That's the flesh. See?
That's the first thing you come to, the flesh. You've got to consume
that first. You've got to pass beyond the flesh. "I--I don't feel like
getting up and going to church; the roads are too slick. I--I... It's too
hot. Oh, church, I don't know." That's the flesh. All right. Now, you
got to consume and walk through that; God has to get through
that.
Soul is the nature of the spirit 21
The next time He come, He has to come into the soul; that's the
nature. "Oh, what will the Joneses say about me? Oh, my. You
know, my church will kick me out if I--if I do something like that."
See? But you got to walk through that.

257 107 And when you walk through that, then He goes into the
heart and there's where He's throned. That's the Holy Spirit in you.
Jesus said, "It'd be far better that a millstone was hanged at your
neck and you was drowned in the depths of the sea, than to even
offend one of these little ones that believe in Me." Not do them any
harm; just even to bring offense to them, just upset them about
something. It'd be better that you had your own-self drowned, or
had never been borned on the earth, than even to bring an offense
to one. Did He mean it? Could He lie? Did the apostles say it? No.
Jesus said it. Jesus said, "If you even bring an offense to one of
them, these little ones that believe in Me."

REVELATION CHAP.4 PT.3.THRONE MERCY. 61-0108

224 096 Now, now, there's one way to get into the body. How's this
body controlled? Now, watch real close now and you get your
pencils ready. Here's the gate on this side that goes into the body:
one, two, three, four, five. Now, you got that drawed? Now, the first
gate over here is, see, smell, hear, and taste, and touch or feel
(either one it wants to be, doesn't matter). Now, that's the senses
in the body. Is that right? How many knows that? Six senses
control the body. Now, we got a soul after you get through this. The
senses is outside; that's the outer system.
Now, in here there's one, two, three, four, five, five attributes in the
soul. Now, you want to write them down? The first one is
imagination, imagination. The second one is conscience. And the
third one is memory. And the fourth one is reason. And the fifth one
is affection.

Now, did you get them all? If you don't, then let me know now. You
got them all down? See, taste, feel, smell, and hear: the body,
that's the open to the body.

The soul is imagination, conscience, memory, reason, and

affection, is the senses or the attributes, or like the senses of the
soul. And the soul is the nature of the spirit that's on the inside,
'cause the soul only puts out an atmosphere of what's on the
22 The Spoken Word
inside of you. It takes the place of sanctification, the soul is, sets in
the same category there. All right, now, every--everybody got that
all down? All right.

228 097 Now, to this gate there's only one, one gate, that's called
"self will." You're the boss of what goes in there. And what does it
do? What is this? The body must be washed, the laver; sanctified,
at here; filled with the Holy Spirit here, and this becomes God's
judgment seat again, where God sets in your heart, if you do
something wrong, say, "Oh, my, I did wrong."

Some people say, "It don't condemn me to--to wear short hair," the
women. "It don't condemn me to wear manicure or makeup," or
whatever it is. "It don't condemn me to go to dances. It don't
condemn me to tell a little white lie. It don't condemn me to play
bridge at my bridge party." You know why? You ain't got nothing to
condemn. "That don't hurt my conscience." You got no more
conscience than a snake has hips. So you just... You ain't got no
conscience; there ain't nothing there will hurt you. You're of the
world.

But I challenge you to let Jesus Christ come in here and try to do it
one time. Brother, you'll be so condemned you'll back off and
shake your head from that thing just as certain as I'm standing
here, 'cause He's holy. Listen, I'm quoting the Scripture, "If you
love them things (That's the world.), things of the world, it's
because the love of God's not even in you."

231 098 "How is self-will? Why will you call that self-will, Brother
Branham?" Because it puts a man and woman back again just like
Adam and Eve at the garden of Eden, On what? The two trees?
Self-will, this one is death. This one is Life, self-will. Immoral...
Free moral agency... God placed the first man, Adam and Eve,
right here on free moral agency. He places you the same place.
And the only way that you can get this thing fixed in here is your
own self-will. Hallelujah. Your self-will. You have to will to do God's
will. You have to get rid of your own will to let God's will come in,
for this is the only channel that leads to the heart.
Soul is the nature of the spirit 23
MESSIAH THE. 61-0117
E-18 018 Now, for instances when a man gets saved, he's just
about like... The Light that comes into him is about like this little
white button on my shirt. That's when God comes into the inner
part of a man. In the inner part of a man or... A man is made up in
the system of a tabernacle: in the outer courts, then holy place,
and the holiest of holies; the Shekinah glory on the inside, the veil.

Now, on the outside gates of a man is his five senses that enters to
his body. On the inside, which is his soul, or the... The--the soul is
the nature of the spirit that's on the inside of his heart; produces
his soul, which makes the atmosphere around him. He has also
five entrances.

Then on the inside he has only one gate, one entrance to go into
the Shekinah glory, where God can enter into him and take over in
the control tower. And that way is through self-will. Whether you
will to or not, that's up to you. But that's the only avenue that's
open to the man that God can come into his heart, is by self-will.
Puts him right back like Adam and Eve on free moral agency
again. You can choose right or wrong, either one you want to.

E-19 019 Now, self-will... Then God comes into the man, into the
heart, which is the spirit. Then the spirit makes the soul, and then
the soul dwells in the body. Now, when a man is converted, say,
just like that little white button starts in his heart. Now, that part is
God. God... When he's born again with the Spirit of God, God's
Spirit dwells in him.

Now, as... He can let that Spirit grow and take out all the roots of
bitterness, and press God's way through him again; he can
become back in the same condition that he was when he was in
the garden of Eden. Jesus said in Mark 11:24: "Verily, verily, I say
unto you, if you say to this mountain, 'Be moved,' and don't doubt
in your heart, but believe that what you have said will come to
pass, you can have what you said." That puts him right back
supreme again. It puts him right back in the condition.

E-20 020 Now, we're made up of light meters. Inside of us is

cosmic light. Now, that cosmic light is a light that they can take an
x-ray with. The x-ray doesn't come from the x-ray light; it comes
24 The Spoken Word
from your own light. And then if that cosmic light, say, could be
pushed to a place to where not cosmic light but Eternal Light...
God could dwell supremely, to do our thinking, do our walking, do
our talking, then it's no longer the man; it's God in the man.

(I suppose I'm deafening you by this thing, 'cause I hear it

rebound. It's got an awful voice. It isn't me; it's this. Now, see, lay it
onto that.)

Now, he's got Light, Life. Eternal Life is the Light of God that dwells
in the man. And if he will yield to the Spirit, more he becomes
unman-sinner-like, and becomes more God-like.

E-21 021 Here not long ago they took an x-ray of a man praying
for a sick man ("Reader's Digest" wrote it up), and found out a ray
of light coming from one of the men (not all of them), but one of the
man's hands reflected a ray of light when they put a piece of lead
foil beneath the man's hand. I guess you read it yourself.

In England they turned "the healers" (they called them) loose to all
the hospitals, and there was eighty percent more healing done by
Divine healing than medical cures had performed. "Reader's
Digest" picked it up over here. That was in "Newsweek," and
"Reader's Digest" picked it up and tried it.

And they find that there is a ray of light. When this man sincerely,
not knowing they were doing it, put his hands upon a man and
prayed an earnest prayer, they was putting the x-ray down, and
found out a light coming from his hand. God knew what He talked
about when He said, "Lay hands on the sick and they shall
recover." He knows what He was speaking of. Oh, I want to see
the church press into that place where it can come like God wants
it to be.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS. COD 61-1015M

676-Q-157 074 157. Please explain the difference between the
spirit and the soul.

Well, now that's a hard one. But the first thing you are, a triune
being, just like Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Father, Son, and Holy
Ghost is three titles going to one Person, which is Jesus Christ.
Soul is the nature of the spirit 25
And you're soul, body, and spirit. But it takes those three to make
you. With just one of them, you're not you. It takes the three to
make you.

Like I said the other day, "This is my hand; this is my finger; this is
my nose; this is my eyes; but who's me?" Who is me that this
belongs to? It's what's on the inside of me; that's the--the
intelligence.

If this eyes, if this hands, if this body stood here just as it is today,
yet I--I could... My body could be here, but me could be gone, what
I am. What--whoever I am inside of me has gone on. That's--that's
the part--part that is the spirit. The soul is the nature of that spirit,
that when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, It does not do nothing...
You... It changes or converts your spirit to a different soul. And that
soul is a different nature that's on that spirit. So the soul is the
nature of your spirit.

First you were mean, and evil, and hatred, and malice, and strife;
now you're loving, sweet, kind, and--and... See the difference? It's
your nature. We could... I'll call it that. It's your soul that's been
changed. The old soul died, and the new soul which is the new
nature was borned into you. See?

676-160 075 Your brain is not your intelligence; it's your spirit that's
in you is your intelligence. See? Your brain is a bunch of matter
and cells and so forth; it has no intelligence in itself. If it did, then
as long as it laid there, whether you was dead or alive, it would still
operate. See? But it's not--it's not your brain; it is your spirit inside
of you. And your soul is the nature of that spirit. That's the soul of
the spirit that controls--the spirit that controls the body. See? There
you are.

Now, I got to hurry, 'cause we're just getting a little bit late. Now, I
think that--I hope that takes care of that.

TOKEN THE. 63-0901M

10-1 040 Now, there's a life, a blood, a life, and a soul in the life.
The soul is the nature of the life. Therefore it had no certain nature.
It was an animal. Therefore, the blood stood for a token that the
life had been given.
26 The Spoken Word

But in this glorious place, under this covenant, there is a difference

between the Blood and the Life. The Token for the believer today is
the Holy Ghost, not a blood, a chemistry; but it is the Holy Spirit of
God. That is the Token that God requires of the church today. God
must see this Token. He must see it in every one of us.

Therefore, as the evening shadows are appearing, and the wrath

is ready to be poured out from on high upon the ungodly nations,
and upon the ungodly unbelievers, upon the--the professors
without a possession, upon these things... And I've tried to unfold
myself and live right among it to see where it was standing before I
said these things.

SOULS IN PRISON NOW. 63-1110M

7-2 018 Now, remember the services tonight, the healing
service. I don't think it'd be necessary to give out prayer cards, so
we just pray for the sick. I have something that I want to tell you,
and I--I hope that it'll just bring the congregation into a place till
where there'll be just all kinds of healing. I know it will be if we'll
just believe it that way.

Now, this, "Souls now in Prison--souls that are now in prison."

Now, the soul of man is not the body of man; it's the soul (See?);
and the soul is something that's the--the nature of the spirit, and
then when the nature of a man... When He said, "We are dead,"
the Scripture plainly tells us that we are dead, and our lives are hid
in God through Christ, sealed there by the Holy Spirit.

Now, it wasn't that your body died. It wasn't your spirit died. It was
the nature of your spirit died. See? The nature, which is the soul.
The nature of your soul is--is God, if you're born again. If it's not,
it's of the world.

7-5 019 Anything that begin, has to end. So therefore the only way
that you can have Eternal Life is to have a life that never did begin.
And then your life did begin when you were born.

When God breathed the breath of life into your nostrils and you
became a living soul, then you begin then. But when you... That
nature that was in you, by nature you was of the world, alienated
Soul is the nature of the spirit 27
from God. You were actually an animal. That's exactly right.
Anyone knows that we're mammal.

How many knows that, that we're mammal? We are a warm-

blooded animal, but that is what we are by our earthly creation, but
you see, what made us different from other mammals was that,
and God put a soul upon us. (See?)

7-6 020 Now, the other mammals don't have to wear clothes. No
other animal has to wear clothes to hide his shame, but us. We're
the only ones that does, because we have a soul. But, see, God, in
the beginning knew what a man would be like, and He created the
earth and brought up all kinds of animals, from the very lowest to
the highest; and the highest animal come forth was man.

8-1 021 And then... First, man was made; he was a spirit man in
the image of God; which God is a Spirit (Saint John 4). Now, He is
a Spirit, and they that worship Him, worship Him in Spirit and in
Truth, and Thy Word is the Truth. Now, we worship Him in Spirit
and Truth. He is a--a Spirit Being.

Then there was no man to till the soil, and then God formed man
out of the dust of the earth. Then He taken from his side, a
byproduct, a rib, and from that, separated this man which had a
dual nature, which was both feminish and masculine. And he taken
the feminish out 'cause it was love, and He placed it into a person
called Eve, that Adam called Eve, which was his wife. That's where
his love, natural, phileo love held to his wife.

8-3 022 That's the way a man should be today, and her back to her
husband. The man, the masculine; the woman, the feminish. And
then (See?), after He'd done made man in His Own image,
"created He them, male and female," there was no man to till the
soil, and He put him in the dust of the earth, and therefore he
become--he was that man.

This human man was mammal. See? He was animal, but He put
this spirit of God, a life into him and made him on the basis that he
could make a choice. And then when this man... Now, we think
we're something. Just remember, what are we? A clod of dirt.
That's all. And because, "Dust thou art, dust thou shall return."
28 The Spoken Word

8-5 023 So when you see this man walking down the street, thinks
he's somebody, you know, and got a little education, and things,
you remember, it's a clod of Indiana dust. That's all. And that
woman that's all dressed in shorts and smoking cigarettes and
carrying on down the street, twisting like she owned the whole
country, it's a clod of Indiana dust, and that's the way it's turning
back. So you're not very much to begin with. See? So that--that's
right. That's what you are. But that soul that's in there (See?), that
soul is what God is working on.

8-6 024 See, if He can only get that nature of that spirit to agree
with Him, then that nature dies. The nature and the love of the
world dies and the things of the world is dead (See?); because if
you love the world or the things of the world, the love of God is not
in you. See?

And a man must be born again, so this nature has to die, and the
nature of God comes and lives in you. And God is the only thing
there is that never did begin or never can end.

9-1 025 So therefore He has partnershipped (You see?), and taken

this man, earthly, and this eternal Spirit and put it together.
Because God reflected Himself back in that He become a man
when He become Christ Jesus, and He Was God. (See?) God was
in Christ...?... lived in Him, reconciled the world to Himself, and
through that perfect Man, each one of us imperfect that believe in
God and has accepted that, becomes a perfection of Him.

TOKEN THE. 64-0308

29 015 Now, the animal life could not come back in the human,
because they wouldn't match; the animal life has no soul in it. The
human life has a soul. The animal doesn't know he's naked. He
doesn't know right from wrong. He--he's just... He has a--a spirit,
but not a soul. Now remember, now the soul is the nature of the
spirit, of course.

Now watch, but then when the Life of our Sacrifice, Jesus Christ,
when His Blood was shed. He was God bottled up in one Man.
Now, He come down from being Jehovah to identify Himself as a
human being, to take upon Himself the form of man to identify us
Soul is the nature of the spirit 29
with Him. He was the Lamb of God. And on the inside of Him,
where the Blood...

KNOWETH IT NOT. 65-0815

17-3 046 Now--now that the church--that His very whole purpose
was the church. Now, how do we get into this church? By one
Spirit we're all baptized into one body, The church, the body of
Christ; it cannot fail. Now, here's what happens. Now, watch this,
just a little figurative picture here.

Now, this outside man is the flesh. That's what we look at, what we
see. And it has five inlets to that body. And any grammar school
child as myself, would know that there's five senses control the
body: see, taste, feel, smell and hear. Without that, you can't touch
the body. That's the only way you have to the body: see, taste,
feel, smell and hear. See it, taste it, feel it. Now, that is the evil one
on the outside.

17-5 047 Now, inside of that is a spirit, which you become when
you're borned in here and the breath of life is breathed into you,
that spirit is of a worldly nature, because it was not given from
God, but it was given, permitted by God. Now, you got that?

For every child that's borned in the world is borned in sin, shaped
in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies. Is that right? So that
person inside there is a sinner to begin with. But now, it's got five
inlets, and them five inlets... I don't know whether I can call them
right off now. First, I know is thought, conscience, and love,
choice... No conscience, love, reason, there's five inlets to the
spirit. You can't think with your body; you have to think with your
spirit. You can't have conscience in your body. It has no mental
faculties at all, your body doesn't. So you have to think with your
spirit. You have to reason. You can't reason with your physical
being, 'cause reason doesn't see, taste, feel, smell, or hear.
Reason is what you can make in your mind.

If you're asleep or you're out; your body's lying there dead, but
your spirit can still reason; there's five senses that controls that
inside man. And that... Now, to the last man, which is the soul.
There's only one sense that controls that, and that is, free moral
agency, free will, to choose or to reject.

THIRST. 65-0919
29 012 Now, we find, God gives the control tower to you, to give to
you the things that you need. Now, the control tower in you is what
directs you. And this thirst runs in on this cold--tower, control tower,
and tells you what you have need of, spiritually speaking. The
control tower in the body, and in the soul also. There's a control
tower in the body that tells you the need that's needed in your
body, and it's brought to you by thirst. Also there's a control tower
in your soul, that tells you the spiritual things that you have need
of, something in your spirit, and--and you by this can tell what kind
of a life is controlling you.

When you--when you can see what your desires are, then you can
tell by that what kind of something that's in you, that's creating this
desire that you have. See, there's a certain thing that you thirst for,
and it--and it can tell you in your soul what this desire is by the
nature of the thirst that you have. I hope that you can understand
that.

31 013 There is a--a control tower of the soul, and one for the
body, and each tower is a warning caller for the needs of the other.
Each one calls to the need for what the caller is calling for; it sends
out a wave of warning.

For instance, the--the flesh thirsts to satisfy the desires that's in the
body, and the spirit desires for the things that's in the soul desire
is, and many times these war one against the other. We find there,
what's a great trouble today, that too many people try to live
between those two desires. For one of them desires the things of
the earth; the other desires the things of heaven.

33 014 Like Paul said, describes it in Romans 7:21, "When I would

do good, then evil is nigh." When you try, did you ever have that in
experience, Christians, that when you're trying to do something
that's worthwhile, go to make an effort to do something that's good,
then you find out that there is the Devil on every hand, just to upset
you, everything that you'd... And that's one good thing that I'd like
to say this, that the Christians might know that when you're--when
you're starting to do something, and there's something always
Soul is the nature of the spirit 31
trying to upset you in doing it, do it anyhow. That's the Devil there
trying to keep you from doing what's right.

THINGS THAT ARE TO BE. 65-1205

101 074 There's two--there's three people of you; the outside is the
body. You got five senses that you contact your earthly home with
that. The inside is a spirit. There's five senses there: love, and
conscience, and so forth you contact. But the inside of that is the
soul.

Remember, the rain falls on the just and the unjust. The same rain
that'll make a grain of wheat grow, makes a cocklebur grow too.
See? What is it? At the inside of that seed is a nature, and that
nature displays itself. It can stand in the same field, right there with
the weed. The weed and the wheat stand together, rejoice just as
much. It's head down; it's starving for a drink. When a rain comes,
the cocklebur can shout just as loud as the wheat can. But by their
fruits you shall know them. See?.
