Hearing God about Having Kids
Wayne Drain
Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him.
—Psalm 127:3 (NLT)
Sooner or later, every young married couple asks themselves two questions:
1. Should we have kids?
2. Are we ready to have kids?
These are good questions to ask. Having kids is a big deal. Some parents think having a child is a responsibility thrust on them by fate, but the Bible tells us that having a child is a gift and a reward given to us by God. When people ask me what I am most thankful for, I say, After salvation, I’m most thankful to be a husband, a dad, and a grandfather.
I usually go on to say, There is no greater call on someone’s life than to be a good parent.
But how do you know you should have kids? How do you become a good parent? Well, it first starts with a desire to have children—not just an obligation to have them but a desire to have them. The best foundation for that desire is a conviction within your heart and mind that the Lord wants you to have children. For children to thrive, they need to know without a doubt that they are
