About this ebook

Jessica

"It feels like everything in my life has been flatlining.

I've been trying to make it in Hollywood for a while, but it feels like I'm stuck in place.

And things with Evan aren't going well either. Am I really his partner, or just red carpet eye candy?

So, when a producer like Brian offers me advice, why shouldn't I take it?

And so, what if he's literally tall, dark and handsome?

If we keep things professional, it shouldn't be an issue...right?"

Brian

"It's becoming harder and harder to find good talent.

So many people are trying to be who they think is popular, and they forget to be themselves.

Maybe that's why it's been a while since I found someone I think could potentially be a star.

At least, until I stumbled upon Jessica.

As a Hollywood producer, I never mix business and pleasure.

It's a bad idea in general, and these days it's a disaster waiting to happen.

And yet…"

    Mr. Easterly - Amber Adams

    Chapter 1

YOU READY YET BABE? The car’s almost here.

Jessica gave herself one last look-over. When her agent Monica had first recommended the dress that was squeezing her curves, she hadn’t been too sure. She knew how the Hollywood game went, but that didn’t mean she had to fully buy into it, and while the lime mini-dress did look good on her, it was a little tighter than she liked.

She sighed slightly, before straightening her back and heading into the living room of the one-bedroom apartment she shared with her boyfriend Evan who was still on the phone with his own agent.

He turned at the sound of her entering, and she gave a slow spin, hands at her sides to make sure her outfit didn’t ride up her thighs. He gave a distracted thumbs-up before returning to the conversation. Jessica rolled her eyes and looked for her purse, double-checking it to make sure she had everything she might need.

Sorry, had to talk to Gary real quick. She looked up as Evan gave her a quick peck on the cheek. Driver just texted me, he’s out front. Suddenly he leaned back, and gave Jessica a playfully appraising look. Nice...when you brought that dress home, I wasn’t sure it was gonna work, but you just managed to get in there! You always were a magician.

She returned his smile with an equally flashy one. Wow, thanks, that’s so nice of you. Her flat voice was as dry as a rattlesnake’s tail, but Evan nodded at her as though he didn’t hear it at all.

Not that he was in the mood to hear much at all, as far as she could tell. The entire drive there was dominated by Evan talking, most of it about the same things she’d heard the last couple of months while he’d been working on this new indie film, Master of Justice: how this was finally going to be his big break, the role he’d been waiting for that was going to get him noticed by the right people, many of whom would hopefully be in attendance; how the majority of his co-stars were all fakes with no talent (except for the main actress Melody Morrison, who he conceded was a decent actress), and how he’d taken an alright part and made it the most interesting part of the film, and on and on.

Jessica half-listened to the familiar spiel while she gazed out the window, looking at nothing. She caught a glimpse of herself in the window’s reflection and suddenly had to suppress a manic giggle.

Here she was, dressed up and on the way to the red carpet at a movie premiere where her hot boyfriend had a big part; if someone had told her that was coming six years ago when she’d first moved to Los Angeles, she would’ve been over the moon.

So why the hell am I so unhappy? she thought.

Even with the steady sound of Evan surmising his next career moves, the question repeated itself in her head until they arrived.

As the limousine door opened, Jessica slid out, doing her best to make sure she didn’t give anyone an inadvertent peek; Evan followed behind, immediately posing for the cameras before Jessica joined him.

Despite everything, Jessica knew they were a good looking couple. Evan had a look she’d described to her friends back home as sexy angsty surfer; with his slicked back, dirty blonde hair, his carefully maintained
