About this ebook

New York Times bestselling author James Swallow begins his espionage thriller series with Nomad featuring British desk jockey intelligence operative turned active agent.

Marc Dane is a MI6 field agent at home behind a computer screen, one step away from the action. But when a brutal attack on his team leaves Dane the only survivor—and with the shocking knowledge that there are traitors inside MI6—he's forced into the front line.

Matters spiral out of control when the evidence points toward Dane as the perpetrator of the attack. Accused of betraying his country, he must race against time to clear his name. With nowhere to turn to for help and no one left to trust, Marc is forced to rely on the elusive Rubicon group and their operative Lucy Keyes. Ex US Army, Lucy also knows what it's like to be an outsider, and she's got the skills that Dane needs.

A terrorist attack is coming, one bigger and more deadly than has ever been seen before. With the eyes of the security establishment elsewhere, only Keyes and Dane can stop the attack before it's too late.

I bought this book because the sticker on the cover said it was for fans of "I am pilgrim" but it's not in the same league. The characters are two-dimensional, the plot is predictable and there is no evidence that an editor had ever been near it. For example, "Marc said nothing for a few moments, turning the man's words over in his thoughts. 'I know your name,' he said, at length. 'You're the founder of the Rubicon Group. A bit of a mystery man, someone likes to who keeps himself off the stage.' I certainly won't bother with the sequel.

Liked the character and the pairing. Good story but "luck" was a bit of an excuse for lack of plot discipline.

An engaging fast moving thriller with echoes, as the author says in an end piece, of Fleming, Ludlum & Clancy. Varying locations and a fast moving plot help the relative weakness of shallow characterisation to be overlooked. This is pop corn confectionery but not at its worst but rather near the top end of the scale. Unfortunately just like that, it remains as forgettable afterwards and really won't be something that will stay with me. Entertaining whilst I read it though.
