Know How No Game
The best player doesn't always win. Even though this Book is about Poker the first sentence is not only true for Poker but in lots of other Sports. You can mostly See this in Team sports were there are good Examples were the best Individual doesn't necessary ends up winning the game or the most Important Game, meaning the Last Game of the Season. There are many ways to explain why this is actually the case. And Michael J. Mouboussin does a terrific Job explaining exactly that in his book „The Success Equation".
The Involvement of people is also one of the few Factors He lays out. The less People that are involved the higher are the chances of winning, when your more skilled. That's why Tennis Players usually win if they are Better then their opponent. But shouldn't that account for poker Players as well? Poker is not a Team Sport, everyone plays Individually for themselves. The Book also lays out why that is not that simple but another thing I found even more Interesting is the fact that all individual sports who don't have a referee are even more skill reliant. That's why Track and Field, Swimming or Chess are slightly more tending towards the skill spectrum then Tennis.
While measuring the Skill Equation we should also notice the difference of physical and mental skills. After Go, Chess is one of the most Skillful sports, at least in the Mental Skill category. The reason why I lay out The Game of Chess, is because it has useful tools it can bring to the more tending Luck Game of Poker wich I will adress later on in this book.
This book actually discusses the evolution of gaining the ultimate Know How of the Game of Poker. It talks about the evolution from a recreational player, live and online,
