About this ebook

The restoration of the V-16 Cadillac is complete. The engine has been tested on a dynamometer, the car has been road tested.
I call Robert Devereux VIII and report, “This is James Dix. Your Cadillac V-16 is completely restored and ready for pickup or, Robert Devereux VIII, I can deliver it if you prefer”.
Robert Devereux VIII says, “I want you to deliver the car and you are invited for Thanksgiving supper.
I reply, “Tell me what time and I’ll be there!”
Thanksgiving day arrives and I am dressed up for delivery of a Cadillac V-16 and also for a Thanksgiving supper.
I fire up the big Cadillac, let it warm up a bit and then off I go. The big V-16 pulls away, in stately silence, then handles a boulevard stop, with no problem. I’m on the highway, in style, and then I turn into the road that leads me to the Devereux estate.
Suddenly, I realize that I’m not alone in the car. With me rides the prettiest lady that I can remember ever seeing. The lady is dressed in old time style, including a large, floppy hat. Lacking anything really original, I say, “Eunice, I presume.”
The lady doesn’t say anything, she just turns a bit and gives me a big smile.
I then say, “We will soon be at the Devereux estate, just in time for Thanksgiving supper.”
The lady then turns back, looks out the windshield and says, “Yes Thanksgiving supper, I well remember.”
The lady’s voice is at normal conversation level, but it somehow seems to come from a long way away.
I get to the Devereux estate and drive through the open gate, I’m then motioned to a parking spot by some sort of servant. As I pull into a space, to park the car, the lady disappears.
I get out of the car and face a very confused servant.
The servant peers in the passenger side window of the big Cadillac and says, “There was a woman in the car, when you pulled in.”
I say “I saw the same thing, but I’m not sure it was a woman.”
The servant says something into maybe a phone of some kind.
Robert Devereux VIII walks out of a doorway and asks, “James, is there some kind of a problem?”
I say, “I want your man to tell you what he saw.”
The servant shakes his head, in disbelief and says, “I saw a lady, in the car and then the lady just disappeared.”
I say, “The lady, image or whatever, just suddenly appeared in the passenger seat of the car, as I drove up the road to your place. I said something to the lady and she smiled at me and then said something to me. I drove through the gate and your man waved me to a parking spot. Then the lady just disappeared. If you will, take this key and smell the passenger side of the Cadillac.”
Robert Devereux VIII takes the key that I offer and opens the passenger side door. He sniffs the air and then closes and locks the passenger side door. He then comes over and sniffs me. He then says, “Cologne, but not the same scent.”
I say, “For a Thanksgiving supper, I splashed on a little smell good. None of my employees wears cologne to work, maybe for a date, but macho stuff.”
Robert Devereux VIII looks into space and says, “What I smelled was definitely lady perfume. Well, come in and we’ll try to sort this out.”

I'm the co-author, with Sunset Thomas, of Anatomy of An Adult Film.I have 48 novels and over 299 short stories currently published.I spent my early years in the part of Los Angeles known as the South Central. I was known as Whi' Boy, which was sufficient to identify me in that place. I'm a skilled Kung Fu player, using a system that I learned from a Korean I knew only as 'Pak.' It would be easier to tell you the places that Pak wasn't wanted by the police, rather than the places where he was wanted by the police. Pak's Kung Fu system, augmented by some bits and pieces from some Chinese practitioners is quick and effective, or I wouldn't be alive today. My early education was mostly obtained by stealing books from the public library (I always returned them and the Librarian even began to provide me with reading lists.) I did go to high schools, but I never really learned anything there. I eventually graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles, UCLA, with a degree in mathematics.I work as a Systems Analyst and also make a part of my living as a professional gambler (legal in Nevada.) Chapter 1: A Classic Car

Back in the 1920s Cadillac found itself with V-8 engines, while the competing Packards had V-12 engines. General Motors then decided to create a V-16 engine, in order to have a sales advantage, over the Packard V-12s.

A design effort was started by General Motors to create a V-16 engine,

The design philosophy for the new V-16 engine, was that it was to be quiet, reliable and powerful.

The resulting V-16 engine was indeed quiet, reliable and powerful. However, fuel economy was about eight miles to the gallon and the V-16 burned about a quart of oil every 150 miles.

The resulting V-16 Cadillac went on sale as a 1930 model, into the economic climate of the raging Great Depression.

The Devereux family was and is the wealthiest family in our area. In 1930 Robert Devereux VI bought one of the new V-16 Cadillacs. Robert (never Bob) drove the car around the area and the car became well known locally.

Robert Devereux VI had a wife, Eunice. Eunice was film star beautiful and regarded as the best looking lady in the area. Unfortunately, Eunice was insane. Eunice drive the big Cadillac to a local high point and then jumped off the cliff, to her death.

Robert Devereux VI then stored the Cadillac and it was not seen in the area for quite some time.

I am then called in, by Robert Devereux VIII. The man
